Packing Smart and Traveling Light

Packing Smart and Traveling Light

By Rick Steves Retrieved Jan. 20, 2018

The importance of packing light cannot be overemphasized, but, for your own good, I’ll try. You’ll never meet a traveler who, after five trips, brags: “Every year I pack heavier.” The measure of a good traveler is how light he or she travels. You can’t travel heavy, happy, and cheap. Pick two.

One Bag, That’s It

My self-imposed limit is 20 pounds in a 9" × 21" × 14" carry-on-size bag (it’ll fit in your airplane’s overhead bin, at least on your transatlantic flight — though many European airlines restrict hand luggage to even smaller weights and dimensions). At my company, we’ve taken tens of thousands of people of all ages and styles on tours through Europe. We allow only one carry-on bag. For many, this is a radical concept: 9" × 21" × 14"? That’s my cosmetics kit! But they manage, and they’re glad they did. After you enjoy that sweet mobility and freedom, you’ll never go any other way.

What? Doesn't everyone have a reclining chair sitting on the back of the truck? We disposed of our old recliner today and our household is sad. Please join in a moment of silence over the loss of our chair. We are taking it hard. 12Jan2018

Law Officer: DEADLY FORCE DATA: WHAT DOES ‘UNARMED’ REALLY MEAN?

Law Officer: DEADLY FORCE DATA: WHAT DOES ‘UNARMED’ REALLY MEAN?
Posted by Travis Yates | Jan 8, 2018

This is a must-read for folks who wish to discuss deadly force... It is intellectually dishonest to keep blaming cops when the facts are known: http://lawofficer.com/exclusive/unarmed/

“Three years ago the Washington Post began tracking citizens killed by law enforcement.  Leading up to the collected data was a daily mantra of so called experts and politicians discussing trigger happy and racist cops.

“That has always been a lie and what the data from the Washington Post continues to do is show anyone that takes an honest look at the data that law enforcement is doing a remarkable job in the midst of violence around them.

“For the last three years, the number of citizens killed has been just about the same and that has caused some to scratch their head.  How could that be after massive reform and training measures were demanded and taken by so many agencies in an effort to reduce force? As I have pointed out in previous articles, until suspects stop attacking and committing violence against cops, force will never change and that is why the data is literally staying the same from year to year.

“Society must start approaching this issue with facts and leave emotion out.  There is someone to blame when deadly force has to be used and it is very rarely the police officer…

It is intellectually dishonest to keep blaming cops when the facts are known…”
