Greetings from the Carroll County NAACP Branch #7014!

Thank you for your interest in the Carroll County NAACP. Our vision is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.

The NAACP works to educate all political candidates to support policies that improve access to quality education and economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, the environment, healthcare and youth empowerment, with a dedication to removing race-based hatred and discrimination from society.

18-years ago on Wednesday, January 14, 2004, this was the editorial in the Carroll County Times.

Editorial for Wednesday, January 14, 2004 “Another tight budget”

The 2004 legislative session opens today looking remarkably similar to the opening day last year, with talk of a tight budget year, low revenues and a major battle brewing over Gov. Robert Ehrlich's desire to legalize slot machines.

Add to that increased state mandates and additional costs to education by the still unfunded recommendations of a state commission tasked with improving education and additional costs associated with improving schools as required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act; a Department of Transportation that says it is desperately underfunded and wants to increase its revenue by increasing the gasoline tax or install toll booths on some roadways; word that the governor's promised rollback of last year's property tax increase isn't going to happen; and municipal budgets that continue to strain under the weight of increased services without a means to pay for them and the situation looks dire for Maryland taxpayers hoping to escape the 90-day session without having to fork over more of their hard-earned paychecks.

Apparently state legislators and the Ehrlich administration have done little in the nine months since the last legislative session ended to identify where programs can be made more cost-effective or identify new sources of revenue that don't include taking money from taxpayers.

As such, we should expect that legislators will not be introducing any legislation that will add to the size or cost of government.

We should expect that programs in existence will be evaluated for the benefits that are received in relation to their cost, and an emphasis will be placed on fixing or eliminating inefficient programs while maintaining those that are working.

In short, legislators have to do their homework.

The trend of turning to taxpayers for more money even as government expands must stop. Failing that, taxpayers will take another hit this year, and the stage will be set for more tax increases in 2005.

The Navy is making chaplains a permanent part of destroyer crews (navytimes.com)

By Geoff Ziezulewicz January 12, 2022

FTA: In a nod to the mental health needs of guided-missile destroyer crews, the Navy is starting to make chaplains a permanent part of the warship’s force.

The effort began last month in the always-busy Japan-based U.S. 7th Fleet.

There, Destroyer Squadron 15 assigned one of the uniformed religious leaders for each of the squadron’s eight destroyers, making them a permanent part of the ship’s company.

Before that, chaplains were farmed out to destroyers during workups and deployments as visiting “ship riders,” according to Naval Surface Forces.

“The mental health of our Sailors is a top priority for the Surface Force,” command spokesman Jarred Reid-Dixon said in an email. “We identified the need to assign chaplains aboard destroyers to help build Sailor resiliency across the Fleet.”

Take-out form Molli's Cafe for lunch.

Caroline and I got take out for lunch at Molli Cole and Matt Cole's Molli's Cafe. We loved our lunch. I had - of course, a grilled cheese sandwich (and a few Semper Fi crayons.) Caroline had the Rachel. It was the perfect lunch after working at the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program barn - getting ready to bring the horses in next week. Have a great day. 23Aug2021 Monday

Westminster Water Main Break, Sunday evening. July 18, 2021

Update: 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. July 18, 2021 - After some preliminary investigation city workers determined that the small water leak needed some additional study before digging into the street and suspended operations this evening. The workers will deploy some leak detection equipment and revisit the leak tomorrow.

Westminster Water Main Break, Sunday evening. July 18, 2021 - currently the City of Westminster is responding to a water main break at the corner of Anchor Street and Westmoreland Street.

Crews first responded around 5 p.m. The break in the pipe has been located and crews are currently working to make the necessary repairs. The water will be temporarily turned-off while the repairs are taking place. We hope to have it repaired quickly. We thank for your patience, and we are sorry for the inconvenience.

If the water is discolored when the water service is restored, let it run for a minute or two until it runs clear.
