A collection of articles by Kevin E. Dayhoff published in Patch over the years… Retrieved on October 28, 2014

Readers had been saying recently that they have been unable to easily find my content on the Westminster Patch web site http://patch.com/maryland/westminster or http://patch.com/maryland/westminster/kevin-e-dayhoffs-blog in recent months. I could not find it either. I had to do a search on “Dayhoff Patch” to find it…. Here are the results…

KEVIN EARL DAYHOFF

Carroll County history and community reporter Kevin E. Dayhoff has been a freelance writer and artist since 1971. In addition to Westminster Patch, he currently contributes to several publications, including several online media sites. In 2009 he won a Maryland Delaware DC Press Association award for editorial critical thinking for an investigation into a racial incident involving a Carroll County school board member. In 2006, he was recognized by George Washington University for authoring one of the top 12 Maryland and Virginia political websites. He served as the mayor of Westminster from 2001 to 2005 and as a Westminster city councilman from 1999 to 2001. He was a self-employed nursery stock farmer, landscape designer, property management consultant, and freelance technical writer from 1974 to 1999. He served as a statewide elected member of the Maryland Municipal League Board of Directors 2000 to 2005. He is currently a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, Capitol Beat - Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors, a Silver Life member of the NAACP, and serves on the executive board of the Carroll County NAACP. Kevin Dayhoff has served as the chaplain of the Westminster Fire Engine and Hose Co. No. 1 and the Maryland Troopers Association Lodge #20, since January 1, 2011. He also serves as a member of the church council at Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster. It is believed that several branches of his family have believed in what we now know as Carroll County since the 1600s. He is a native of Westminster, Carroll County, MD, where he currently lives. kevindayhoff@gmail.com. www.kevindayhoff.org

Larry Hogan & Boyd Rutherford rally on Tuesday October 28, 2014 at 5 p.m. - Best Western Westminster

The Carroll County 80/80 Plan

Larry Hogan has formed a bipartisan political coalition that is poised to pull off the biggest upset in the Nation on Election Day.

Carroll County must do its part to make this happen - thus the Carroll County 80/80 Plan:

80% GOP Voter Turnout
80% Vote for Hogan-Rutherford

80% GOP VOTER TURNOUT:  The last time that Marylanders elected a Republican as Governor was 2002. In that year, GOP turnout in Carroll County was 75%. However, in presidential elections the GOP turnout in Carroll County is 84-86%.  We must encourage these "Romney Republicans" to go to the polls in the next week!

80% VOTE FOR HOGAN-RUTHERFORD: In 2002, Carroll County voters gave Bob Ehrlich at 79% margin of victory in our county. That was higher than the Democratic majority jurisdictions gave to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend - P.G. Co. (76%), Balt. City (75%) and Montgomery Co. (61%).

If we get high turnout and high voter margins in our rural and suburban counties, Larry Hogan will win! Help us achieve our 80/80 goal!

Come to our rally and learn more:

Today - Tues. Oct. 28
EARLY VOTING RALLY - VOTE EARLY at the Carroll County Early Voting Center and then join us for a rally with Republican candidate for Governor Larry Hogan:

4 to 5 p.m. GREET VOTERS AT THE POLLS WITH LARRY HOGAN & SEN. GETTY Carroll County Early Voting Center, 125 Stoner Ave., Westminster

A (night) in the life of a night shift nurse | RN Meets World

"A few months ago, Nurse Eye Roll posted a post entitled A Day in the Life of a Nurse (all credit for this idea goes to her). Without further ado, here is the flip side of that, what happens in the wee hours of the night when day shift is off the clock, our patients are all “asleep”, and it’s always 7am somewhere.

Dedicated to all of you hard working night shift nurses who are reading this on your smart phones right now while trying to pass the time."

http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2014/10/interview-with-chilean-president.html

"Last year, Michelle Bachelet, 63, was elected to be president of Chile for the second time.

When the Socialist politician became the country's first female president eight years ago, she symbolized the country's transformation after the end of Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship in 1990.

When she left office in 2010, she still had a popularity rating of over 80 percent. But she couldn't stand for re-elected because Chilean election law prohibits a president from serving two consecutive terms.

A pediatrician by vocation, Bachelet is a single mother and is the daughter of Alberto Bachelet Martínez. Her father remained loyal to Salvador Allende, the Socialist president murdered after the 1972 military putsch. Bachelet would himself later die in prison following repeated torture.

During her first term as president, Bachelet succeeded in democratizing the country's military forces and provided support to victims of the dictatorship. At the end of 2013, Bachelet got re-elected to succeed the right-leaning politician Sebastián Piñera as president. Since then, both the political and economic climate in Chile has deteriorated." ... http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/interview-with-chilean-president-michelle-bachelet-on-planned-reforms-a-999459.html#ref=nl-international

RALEIGH, NC -- Raleigh police say a woman they arrested got a gun past them into the Wake County Detention Center - where it was found in her hair weave.

Tiffanie Bass, 32, was arrested during an early morning raid Wednesday at a nightclub on South Street in Raleigh.

Bass was arrested at Club Rumors and charged with resisting an officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
