"WASHINGTON — For years, Harvard’s experts on health economics and policy have advised presidents and Congress on how to provide health benefits to the nation at a reasonable cost. But those remedies will now be applied to the Harvard faculty, and the professors are in an uproar.

"Members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the heart of the 378-year-old university, voted overwhelmingly in November to oppose changes that would require them and thousands of other Harvard employees to pay more for health care. The university says the increases are in part a result of the Obama administration’s Affordable Care Act, which many Harvard professors championed."

Liberal group plots to catch GOP state pols being racist and sexist | WashingtonExaminer.com

BY JASON RUSSELL | DECEMBER 12, 2014

The leader of a group hoping to improve liberals' fortunes at the state level revealed on Friday plans to start tracking conservative state legislators based on the assumption that "someone’s going to say something about black people" or women.
The comments came at the first ever conference of the State Innovation Exchange (SiX), the Left’s attempt to counter conservative policy successes that have followed Republican victories at the state level.
“We’re working with David Brock and Media Matters and American Bridge who have trackers that we can send out to monitor the debate on some bills that you all might be running," Nick Rathod, executive director of SiX, said. "I think in many legislatures my understanding is that a lot of legislatures stream their floor debates but don’t necessarily transcribe it or capture it in any kind of way. And so we want to start capturing them on that. I think we know, someone’s going to say something about black people. Someone’s going to say something about women. Someone is going to say something.

Former Secretary of State Rice backs out of Rutgers commencement

Former Secretary of State Rice backs out of Rutgers commencement

May 3, 2014

According to Kristina Wong, writing for The Hill on May 3, 2014, “Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice declined Rutgers University’s invitation as commencement speaker after some students staged a sit-in protest of her support for the Iraq War. Read more here: http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/205115-condoleezza-rice-backs-out-of-rutgers-commencement

[…]

However, Rutgers faculty at its New Brunswick campus approved a resolution calling for Rice to be disinvited to the May 18 ceremony, according to the National Review Online, citing the Bush’s administration’s “effort to mislead the American people about the presence of weapons of mass destruction.”

Students protested with signs calling Rice a “war criminal.”

On May 3, 2014, Secretary Rice said on her Facebook page, “Commencement should be a time of joyous celebration for the graduates and their families. Rutgers' invitation to me to speak has become a distraction for the university community at this very special time.

I am honored to have served my country. I have defended America's belief in free speech and the exchange of ideas. These values are essential to the health of our democracy. But that is not what is at issue here. As a Professor for thirty years at Stanford University and as its former Provost and Chief academic officer, I understand and embrace the purpose of the commencement ceremony and I am simply unwilling to detract from it in any way.

Good luck to the graduates and congratulations to the families, friends and loved ones who will gather to honor them.

Ten top reasons to vote Democrat

Ten top reasons to vote Democrat

LETTERMAN’S TOP 10 REASONS TO VOTE DEMOCRAT

#10. I vote Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I’ve decided to marry my German Shepherd.

#9. I vote Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon at 15% isn’t.

#8. I vote Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

#7. I vote Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

#6. I vote Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. I am also thankful that we have a 911 service that get police to your home in order to identify your body after a home invasion.

#5. I vote Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive and comfy.

#4. I vote Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away Social Security from those who paid into it.

#3. I vote Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrat Party sees fit.

#2. I vote Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

…And the #1 reason I vote Democrat is because I think it's better to pay $billions$ for oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish here in America. We don't care about the beetles, gophers or fish in those other countries.

Federal employee union wants members to keep health plan rather than adopt Obamacare | The Patriots Network

Federal employee union wants members to keep health plan rather than adopt Obamacare | The Patriots Network:

The National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) opposes legislation (H.R. 1780) that will push federal employees out of the FEHBP and into the insurance exchanges established under Obamacare. Ironic? If it isn’t good enough for the civil service, why is it good enough for the American public?

So who is the NTEU? Since 1938, NTEU has been driven by the principle that every federal employee should be treated with dignity and respect. In that time, NTEU has grown to represent some 150,000 bargaining unit employees in 31 federal agencies and departments... http://patriotsnetwork.wordpress.com/2013/05/21/federal-employee-union-wants-members-to-keep-health-plan-rather-than-adopt-obamacare/

Republican legislators angry at failure to release gambling data

Republican legislators angry at failure to release gambling data

October 29, 2012 at 7:26 am

House Minority Leader Tony O’Donnell speaks during special session.

By Len Lazarick

Republican legislators are riled up that data they asked for months ago on the proposed expansion of gambling has still not been handed over to them by the Department of Legislative Services.

Since June, Del. Susan Krebs and House Minority Leader Tony O’Donnell have asked for all the information supplied by PricewaterhouseCoopers that was used by legislative analysts to recommend a sixth casino in Prince George’s County.

But all the GOP leaders have gotten so far is a copy of a $61,730 bill from Pricewaterhouse showing charges of $448 an hour to $793 an hour, and some correspondence explaining the working relationship between the consultants and the Legislative Services staff. Other documents and emails are being reviewed by Assistant Attorney General Bonnie Kirkland, who said she could release some of the documents “soon.”

“I’ve never gotten a formal response from any of the formal inquiries that I’ve made,” O’Donnell said. “They just ignore you.” O’Donnell wrote to House of Delegates Speaker Michael Busch on Aug. 13 and again on Oct. 17, asking for the material.

Wall Street Journal – Karl Rove: 'The Road We've Traveled' With Obama

March 22, 2012

Three dismal years are spun into 17 minutes of fact-challenged campaign film.

This month, Barack Obama's re-election campaign released a 17-minute film, "The Road We've Traveled," that previews the Democratic general election narrative. Directed by Academy Award winner Davis Guggenheim and narrated by actor Tom Hanks, the film explores Mr. Obama's most important decisions.

Viewers are told Mr. Obama deserves re-election for restoring America to prosperity after a recession "as deep as anything . . . since the Great Depression." He accomplished this in part, so the film says, by bailing out the auto companies—deciding not to just "give the car companies" or "the UAW the money" but to force them to "work together" and "modernize the automobile industry." The president, we're told, also confronted "one of the most worrisome problems facing America . . . the cost of health care."

Abroad, Mr. Obama ended the Iraq war and, in the "ultimate test of leadership," Osama bin Laden was killed on his watch. The film heralds Mr. Obama as a leader committed to "tough decisions" and as someone who "would not dwell in blame" in the Oval Office.

Where to begin? Perhaps with the last statement: Mr. Obama has spent three years wallowing in blame. His culprits have ranged from his predecessor, to tsunamis and earthquakes, to ATMs, to Fox News, to yours truly. If you Google "Obama, Blame, Bush" and "Obama, Inherited," you'll get tens of millions of hits.

As for inheriting the worst economy since the Great Depression: Perhaps Mr. Obama has forgotten the Carter presidency, which featured double-digit inflation, double-digit interest rates, and high unemployment.

The film is riddled with other inaccuracies and misleading claims. For example, the United Auto Workers may not have gotten "money" in the bailout, but as an unsecured creditor, the union received a 17.5% ownership interest in General Motors and 55% of Chrysler, while the companies' bondholders got hosed…

Tim Padgett - Time Two Wrongs and the Right

Two Wrongs and the Right: Overreaction to Conservatives Leads Liberals to Hypocrisy

By TIM PADGETT | March 12, 2012

[…]

They were at it last week when commentators like my former TIME colleague Karen Tumulty of the Washington Post or Kirsten Powers of The Daily Beast dared suggest that male media personalities on the left – like Matt Taibbi, Keith Olbermann or Bill Maher, who called Sarah Palin a “c—” on his HBO show last year – are themselves guilty of misogyny. Rather than swallow their ideological pride for a moment, too many liberals, including more than a few leading feminists, have dug in like the Vatican and refused to acknowledge that their side too can be wrong or unfair. Or, as in the case of Maher, who just gave $1 million to a super PAC backing President Obama, as boorish as Rush Limbaugh.

Yes, there are qualifications. Limbaugh is a powerful gazillionaire radio show bully who beat up a powerless student on the air, while Maher targeted a powerhouse political celeb who was almost one heart-beat from the presidency and blasts her own opponents as if they were so many moose. Maher, like Limbaugh, apologized for his remarks last week while defending their right to speak their minds. But this isn’t about the First Amendment; it’s about the ugly loss of civility in American discourse. The bottom line is that publicly calling any woman the “c” word is the sort of knuckle-dragging stuff for which Maher so sanctimoniously lambastes the gun-loving, NASCAR-watching, church-going heartland on “Real Time.” Maher’s left-wing defenders, meanwhile, argue that he’s an entertainer – seemingly oblivious to the fact that right-wing presidential hopeful Rick Santorum made the same excuse for Limbaugh… http://swampland.time.com/2012/03/12/two-wrongs-and-the-right-overreaction-to-conservatives-leads-liberals-to-hypocrisy/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+timeblogs%2Fswampland+%28TIME%3A+Swampland%29&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher

The Rush To Censor Limbaugh | Fox News

The Rush To Censor Limbaugh | Fox News: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/03/05/rush-to-censor-limbaugh/

Published March 05, 2012
| FoxNews.com

Rush Limbaugh was broadsided last week for attacking a star witness for the Democrats who demanded government force insurers to subsidize contraceptives. He called 30-year-old Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute.”

Let’s all agree Limbaugh crossed a line.

He agrees. He posted an apology to Fluke “for the insulting word choices.” ... http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/03/05/rush-to-censor-limbaugh/

The scandal-ette should be over.

So why are the Left and the media still pushing and publicizing a campaign for advertisers to dump the Limbaugh show and end his career?

Because it has little to do with his words. This is all about disingenuous politics. Liberals want this government-mandate controversy to be not about religious liberty, which is devastating, but about contraceptives, which works in their favor.

That is intellectually dishonest.

They want to position conservatives as “anti-women.” That’s as ugly as it is untrue. ... http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/03/05/rush-to-censor-limbaugh/

Washington Post: Dispute over New Black Panthers case causes deep divisions

Dispute over New Black Panthers case causes deep divisions

Washington Post Staff Writers

On Election Day 2008, Maruse Heath, the leader of Philadelphia's New Black Panther Party, stood in front of a neighborhood polling place, dressed in a paramilitary uniform.

Within hours, an amateur video showing Heath, slapping a black nightstick and exchanging words with the videographer, had aired on TV and ricocheted across the nation.

Among those who saw the footage was J. Christian Adams, who was in his office in the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division in Washington.

"I thought, 'This is wrong, this is not supposed to happen in this country,' " Adams said. "There are armed men in front of a polling place, and I need to find out if they violated the law, because in my mind there's a good chance that they did."

The clash between the black nationalist and the white lawyer has mushroomed into a fierce debate over the government's enforcement of civil rights laws, a dispute that will be aired next week when the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights unveils findings from a year-long investigation.

Two months after Election Day, Adams and his supervisors in the George W. Bush administration filed a voter-intimidation lawsuit against Heath and his colleagues, even though no voters had complained. The Obama administration months later dismissed most of the case, even though the Panthers had not contested the charges... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/22/AR2010102203982.html?wpisrc=nl_natlalert

Jerry Brown announces NOW endorsement one day after Meg Whitman slur

Jerry Brown announces NOW endorsement one day after Meg Whitman slur

October 8, 2010 |  2:05 pm
Jerry Brown announced he has received the endorsement of the National Organization for Women, less than 24 hours after the emergence of a recorded message in which Brown can be heard in a conversation with advisors in which someone calls Whitman a "whore." Coincidence? You be the judge.
Whitman's campaign pounced after the audio was made public, sending out a release Thursday night from spokeswoman Sarah Pompei calling the use of the term "an insult to both Meg Whitman and to the women of California.  This is an appalling and unforgivable smear against Meg Whitman.  At the very least Mr. Brown tacitly approved this despicable slur and he himself may have used the term at least once on this recording."
As if on cue, Brown's campaign Friday released the endorsement from NOW championing Brown's record on women's rights.  "As Governor, Mayor, and Attorney General, Jerry Brown has promoted and defended women’s rights,” said California NOW President Patty Bellasalma...  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/california-politics/2010/10/jerry-brown-announces-now-endorsement-one-day-after-meg-whitman-slur.html

The real story about combat troops in Iraq from someone who is deployed

The real story about combat troops in Iraq from someone who is deployed

Date: Friday, August 20, 2010, 5:41 PM

http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2010/10/real-story-about-combat-troops-in-iraq.html

Hey everybody I just wanted to send a quick update and give Yall the REAL story on what's going on over here with the troop withdrawal.

The picture is of my crew and I on a break during a mission.   The guy to the far left is my gunner (Burks) and the guy in the middle is my driver (Mizell).  They go with me on every mission and are great guys.

The reason I'm sending this out is because I have had a few people ask if I left Iraq early because all of the combat troops are out of Iraq and I wanted to let everyone know the real deal.

It's kind of ridiculous how the news is saying that the last of the "combat" troops are out of Iraq because of Pres Osama ( I mean Obama ).  He says that it was his campaign promise.

Take our Brigade for example.  We were originally called a HBCT ( Heavy Brigade Combat Team).  Well since Obama said he would pull all of the "combat" troops out by Aug all they did before we left was change our name from a HBCT to a AAB ( Advise and Assist Brigade ).

We have the same personnel/equipment layout as before and are doing the same missions.  The ONLY difference is that they changed our name from a HBCT to an AAB and that's how he is getting away with saying that he has pulled all of the "combat" troops out.

It is really ridiculous what he's doing and he has ticked alot of people off.  And it's funny how the media is buying all of it to.  So no the last combat troops are not out of Iraq we are still here.  There are other Brigades just like ours that are doing the same missions that are still over here.

Sorry for going on about it but we are just sitting over here watching it and are like "You've got to be kidding me!"  So anyway now you know the REAL story so that's why I'm not coming back early.  Anyways I hope everyone is doing well and I'll see you soon!

Travis

FLASHBACK: President Obama Opposed Surge Strategy That Led to Progress in Iraq

FLASHBACK: President Obama Opposed Surge Strategy That Led to Progress in Iraq

http://gopleader.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=201897

As President Touts Progress Made Under Surge Strategy He Opposed, it is Imperative That He Focus on the Long-Term Security of Iraq and the United States

Washington (Aug 2)

Today, President Obama is giving a speech highlighting the transition of the mission in Iraq from a combat to an advisory role later this month. While the President may be eager to use this speech to “to check off another of the major promises he made during the campaign,” he may be less willing to revisit his own opposition to the surge strategy that, along with the courage and sacrifice of the troops that implemented it, is responsible for the progress that has been achieved to date.

In early 2007, the situation in Iraq was bleak. A new strategy had been announced that represented the best, and possibly last chance to prevent Iraq from slipping into the hands of terrorists and insurgents. At that time, President Obama blasted the new strategy, arguing that it would only make the situation worse:

  • Then-Sen. Obama said the surge would actually worsen sectarian violence in Iraq. Then-Sen. Obama: “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse. I think it takes pressure off the Iraqis to arrive at the sort of political accommodation that every observer believes is the ultimate solution to the problems we face there. So I am going to actively oppose the president’s proposal. … I think he is wrong, and I think the American people believe he’s wrong.” (MSNBC’s “Response To The President’s Speech On Iraq,” 1/10/07)

  • Then-Sen. Obama: “We cannot impose a military solution on what has effectively become a civil war. And until we acknowledge that reality -- we can send 15,000 more troops, 20,000 more troops, 30,000 more troops, I don’t know any expert on the region or any military officer that I’ve spoken to privately that believes that that is going to make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.” (CBS’ “Face The Nation,” 1/14/07)

  • Then-Sen. Obama: “Given the deteriorating situation, it is clear at this point that we cannot, through putting in more troops or maintaining the presence that we have, expect that somehow the situation is going to improve, and we have to do something significant to break the pattern that we’ve been in right now.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 10/22/06)

Republicans, and millions of Americans, argued that our troops and the new strategy should be given the opportunity to succeed. In the three-and-a-half years since the surge was implemented, our men and women in uniform have performed brilliantly, bringing about a tremendous amount of progress in Iraq. Nevertheless, much difficult work remains.

As the U.S. continues its drawdown, a recent spike in violence underscores the need to maintain a long-term commitment to ensuring stability and security in Iraq. The United States has a vital national security interest in maintaining a close alliance with a free and democratic Iraq. While insurgents may attempt to challenge the political landscape, it is imperative that the United States recognize that the progress that has been made is not irreversible, and that Iraq must not be allowed to become a safehaven for terrorists to plan and launch attacks against the United States.

As the drawdown of U.S. forces continues throughout the next 17 months, we hope that President Obama continues to keep in mind his promise to listen to the commanders on the ground and make decisions based on their counsel:

  • As a presidential candidate, then-Sen. Obama told CBS’ Harry Smith that the President has to be “mindful of the situation on the ground and what the commanders say.” Smith: “If you are to be elected president and your commanders on the ground there and your secretary of Defense said, ‘Hold back; you can’t be pulling these people out; we’re going to create a civil war and a bloodbath,’ what would you do?”...Obama: “[I] think there is going to be some flexibility. And obviously I would consult with commanders. We have to be mindful of the situation on the ground and what the commanders say.” (CBS’ “The Early Show,” 2/4/08)

NOTE: House Republicans, led by House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) introduced aresolution (H.Con.Res. 310) honoring the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the Armed Services who are currently serving, or have served, in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
