Reviewing the art submitted for the magazine Creative Expressions – at Carroll Lutheran Village

Reviewing the art submitted for the magazine Creative Expressions – at Carroll Lutheran Village

A little while ago, just before the holidays I was mailed my copy of the magazine ‘Creative Expressions’ from Carroll Lutheran Village. I set my copy on the corner of my desk to look at later… Well, I finally got a chance to uncover it. It is wonderful to leaf through the magazine with art from the residents at Carroll Lutheran Village. It just seems like yesterday that we did the judging – but it was a number of months ago, that I was among the three local artists that met on Aug. 2, 2018 to select the artwork at Carroll Lutheran Village

On Sunday, September 2, 2018, [Update: 30Dec2018,] the Carroll County Times ran a copy of the picture we took that day in the section called, “Prime,” news for the 55-forward community. Page C3 Sunday, September 2, 2018. [Update: 30Dec2018] Creative Expressions - Three local artists met on Aug. 2 to select the artwork to appear on the covers of Creative Expressions, the annual Carroll Lutheran Village creative magazine produced by residents [that was just recently released.] The artwork was created by Village residents and staff for the 2018 issue of Creative Expressions.

Carroll Lutheran Village commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation by planting trees

October 8th, 2017 by Kevin Dayhoff

Westminster Md. - Last month, on September 13, 2017, Carroll Lutheran Village held a tree planting ceremony on the Mission Square near the center of the sprawling retirement complex, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation which began in Germany in 1517.

The Rev. William G. Gohl, Bishop of the DE-MD Synod of the ELCA officiated, and was joined by The Rev. Dr. Rev. Fred Eckhardt, Carroll Lutheran Village Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz, Deacon Laura Heller, the coordinator of the Creation Care Ministry of the Delaware-Maryland Synod, Carroll Lutheran Village Associate Chaplain Deacon Don Myers, and Justin Durboraw, local funeral director, Gettysburg Lutheran College roommate of Bishop Gohl.

At the ceremony, Carroll Lutheran Village resident Phil Hooks played an original musical composition on the Alpine Horn, titled, “Fanfare to a Tree.” Later in the program, Hooks played Sousa marches while folks in attendance enjoyed a root beer and soft pretzel reception. Dr. Stephen Schimpff spoke to future residents of The Lutheran Village at MILLER'S GRANT about the relationship between doctor and patient.
The relationship between doctor and patient has changed dramatically over the past couple of decades, and not to the benefit of the patient.  One of the world's leading experts on health care believes a stronger doctor-patient bond is the key better health care, and better health outcomes, for older adults.

Priscilla G. Teeter, registered nurse, 85, Carroll County icon

By Frederick N. Rasmussen, The Baltimore Sun

4:11 p.m. EDT, June 16, 2014

http://kevindayhoffwestgov-net.blogspot.com/2014/06/priscilla-g-teeter-registered-nurse.html

Priscilla G. Teeter, a registered nurse who later became an administrator with the Carroll County Health Department, died May 30 of brain cancer at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster. She was 85.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/obituaries/bs-md-ob-priscilla-teeter-20140616,0,4054151.story Fred Rasmussen is a great writer and he did a good job on a tribute to a wonderful Carroll County icon.

Mrs. Teeter was an absolutely wonderful person, as was her late husband, who was also extremely good to Caroline and me. Mrs. Teeter will be greatly missed and her passing makes me very-very sad.

According to Mr. Rasmussen, "Mrs. Teeter was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 17 Bond St., Westminster, where a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday."

Powell joins distinguished club of former Carroll County Chiefs of Staff Eagle Archives by Kevin Dayhoff May 5, 2014

Powell joins distinguished club of former Carroll County Chiefs of Staff Eagle Archives by Kevin Dayhoff May 5, 2014

The recent resignation of Steve Powell, chief of staff for the Board of Commissioners for Carroll County, brought back memories of other distinguished individuals in county history who have endured that arduous position: Richard "Pat" Hill, Robert A. "Max" Bair and George A. Grier, to name a few.

In full disclosure, this writer had the honor and privilege to have worked with every county chief of staff — executive assistant — since the position was created in 1959.

[…]

Whether you agreed or disagreed with them, those who have held the position deserve a special place in our hearts and prayers for their service and commitment to Carroll County; for it is a wonder they are able to retire and not be committed: On any given day, the chief must keep the wheels of government running smoothly.

[…]

Often, my visits to the office of the chief of staff reminded me of the lyrics to the 1970 David Bowie song, "All the Madmen": "Day after day / They take some brain away / Then turn my face around / To the far side of town / And tell me that it's real / Then ask me how I feel." http://youtu.be/jb7Xdu7STx8 Read more: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/carroll/westminster/ph-ce-eagle-archive-0504-20140505,0,6364637.story

[…]

Meanwhile, it is only fitting that Powell will be leaving to take a job in a retirement home — as vice president of finance for Carroll Lutheran Village. Join me in wishing him the best.
