Best Shoes at the Republican National Convention

Best Shoes at the Republican National Convention

September 1, 2008

On opening day, I ran across one of the 10,000 volunteers, who was quite proud of her shoes. Everyone at the convention was extremely nice – even the security and the police officers.

20070228 Best Shoes of the Day

Best Shoes of the Day – The Daily Shoe Watch

February 28th, 2007

I found this wonderful pair of shoes at a local frame shop in WestminsterGizmos Art, Lyndi McNulty's. Aren’t they just divine?

If you ever been in Gizmos during the day the place is regular bee hive of activity and here at “Soundtrack” we were really appreciative that this nice young lady stopped for two seconds to let us capture an image of her shoes for everyone to admire.

20070111 Best shoes at the Chamber State of the County luncheon

January 11th, 2007

The competition was tough, but the shoes pictured above won out.

(Best dressed was former Commissioner Perry Jones – but that is almost a forgone conclusion at these types of public events. He looked rested and it was good to see him. One friend, who shall go un-named called him “Man Candy.”

Okay, after that outburst… moving on.

(Giving Commissioner Jones a run for his money was Kelsey Volkmann.)

Oh the State of the County presentations?

Commissioner Julia Walsh Gouge talked about water issues and growth – the Comprehensive Plan update initiative… Commissioner Dean L. Minnich talked about business and economic development and Commissioner Michael Zimmer talked about traffic safety issues.

Now to the important stuff - - shoes.

Well, maybe not, I’ll take a nap first and then I’ll get back to shoes.

Oh, all the journalists who attended the event appeared to subscribe to the parameters of the Washington Examiner dress code (q.v.: “20060330 Always Dress better than expected”) – darn it.

I enjoyed chatting with Kelsey Volkmann, Katie Jones, Marjorie Censer and Josh Mackley. I did not get a chance to talk with Laura McCandlish – she was very serious…

Mr. Mackley said that the State of the County presentations will be aired on Ch. 19 (on Comcast cable in Carroll County only) throughout January and February on Saturdays in at noon and Sundays at 8 PM and Tuesdays at 1:30 PM and 10:00 PM.

More about the shoes and the State of the County later.

20060919 Everything men need to know about women’s shoes

Everything men need to know about women’s shoes

Columnist Maude Franceschina, writing for the Frederick News Posts explains in her September 19th, 2006 column, everything men need to know about women’s shoes.

Well sorta. I still have many questions. I haven’t a clue as to why anyone would want to where shoes in which they cannot walk?

I think very little about my shoes - - or what to wear for that matter. A point for which I am reminded from time to time. Apparently I am not in the running for being designated a clothes-horse. To which I usually respond by giving the fashion critic 50 cents so they can go call someone who cares.

Anyway – I liked her final line, which I did understand: “I plan to wear red cowboy boots when voters reject the soft on national security Democrats this November (I couldn't resist).”

If the Democrats do prevail in the “Fall elections - Democrat Wave Theory”, we will all need our running shoes.

Fortunately, President Bush’s approval rating is on the rise according to a September 19th, 2006 Gallop News Service article by Joseph Carroll: “Bush job approval up to 44%:”

“Highest approval rating so far this year. PRINCETON, NJ -- A new USA Today/Gallup poll finds George W. Bush's job approval rating is now at 44%, which is an improvement compared with the public's assessment of his performance in recent months. Bush's job approval ratings have been fluid in recent weeks, measuring as high as 42% in mid-August, but dropping back to 39% earlier this month.”

Read the rest of Gallop piece here.

And enjoy Ms. Franceschina’s column here.

20060803 Best Shoes in Show as worn by a journalist

Best Shoes in Show as worn by a journalist.

August 3rd, 2006

Carroll County 4-H FFA Fair update… And the award for “Best Shoes in Show – as worn by a journalist” goes to Carrie Ann Knauer of the Carroll County Times.

It is only fitting that Ms. Knauer won the award as she is frequently spotted around town in a t-shirt that says, “Walk in someone else’s shoes.”

Congratulations Ms. Knauer.

20060802 Best Shoes in Show

Best Shoes in Show

At the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair, there are many exciting contests, competitions and judging events.

While attending the Rabbit Barn dedication last Sunday, July 30th, 2006, I spotted what are, to date, the best shoes in show, at least so far. They belong to Kathy Harden.

Always endeavoring to bring you the latest in cutting edge reporting on the Carroll County Fair, we present, “Best Shoes in Show,” – at least what I have observed so far.

As the Fair continues, I’m sure to have more entries – stay tuned.

When told of her award in a cell phone interview, Ms. Harden responded, “No comment, just like a politician…”

When you spot Ms. Harden at the Fair throughout the rest of the week, be sure to compliment her on her shoes. She’ll be thrilled.

Always Dress better than expected

HAT TIP Wonkette

Examiner Watch

OMG - It would appear that there is a war of the wardrobe occurring in the pressroom these days. Since journalists have always been know to be such slaves to fashion, this blogger is simply aghast that such memos are even necessary.

Thank goodness, according to the mainstream media, all it would appear that I need to wear while slaving away at the keyboard is my pajamas.

It was noticed that the memo also addressed proper shoes…

And obviously, it goes without saying that the family values poster child, Britney Spears cannot work at the Washington Examiner.

Many thanks to Wonkette for keeping us up to date on such pressing matters.

DC Examiner Dress Code: Only Due Attention To Ones Self, Please

This just in from Wonkette:

http://www.wonkette.com/

March 29, 2006

What, you think working for a free paper is all loosey-goosey anything goes hippie bullshit? It's a business, dammit, you'll treat it as such! Here, for your perusal, are samples from the dress code at the DC Examiner (instututed, no doubt, after Vivienne Sosnowski showed up in torn denim mini-skit and studded collar) -- we note that it doesn't appear to have been written (or read) by a copy-editor.

From the "Appropriate" column:

Dresses (length cannot be more than three inches above the knee). ["more than"?]

Pants in business suitable fabrics. [Satin, leather, vinyl, etc.]

And the more fun "Inappropriate" column:

Any type of denim (including jean dresses, denim shirts, denim pants, denim skirts, etc.).

Any material resembling denim.

Khaki or Docker- style pants. [Harsh, but fair -- we have a similar rule against tucking your t-shirt into your jeans]

Stirrup pants and leggings. [That, along with their anti-sweatband and big sunglasses provision, explains their disappointing lack of hipster coverage]

Camouflage clothing [Despite this, they still manage to poach Wash Times staffers]

Clothing is not to be overly tight nor draw undue attention to ones self.

Full memo after the jump.

It is important for all employees to project a professional image of Washington Newspaper Publishing Company, LLC.

To create this image to our clients and /or visitors, WNP has implemented a dress-code policy. The following list is a guideline of what attire is appropriate and inappropriate. This list is not all inclusive but is a guide.

APPROPRIATE:

Dresses (length cannot be more than three inches above the knee).

Suits/pantsuits/ties.

Skirts (length cannot be more than three inches above the knee).

Blouses/shirts.

Blazers.

Vests.

Walking shorts/skorts in business suitable fabrics (length cannot be more than three inches above the knee).

Pants in business suitable fabrics.

Any type of business shoe (heels, flats, etc.).

INAPPROPRIATE:

Any type of denim (including jean dresses, denim shirts, denim pants, denim skirts, etc.).

Any material resembling denim.

Casual/sport T-shirts (including logo merchandise).

Casual shorts.

Khaki or Docker- style pants.

Stirrup pants and leggings.

Casual sandals, athletic or canvas shoes, casual boots, flip flops,

Flannel shirts.

Camouflage clothing

Bras, sport bras, tank tops, etc. (must be fully covered by clothing), short/crop tops. Mid drifts are not to be visible.

Employees dealing with and interacting with the public and clients are not to wear facial piercings.

Clothing is not to be overly tight nor draw undue attention to ones self.

Employees violating the code may be sent home, without pay, to change and may be subject to disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

Employees are also reminded that it is your responsibility to keep your work area clean. Papers are not to be stockpiled, work information is to be put away daily, excessive trash must be removed. If you see papers on the floor in your area or common areas, take the minute necessary to pick it up and throw it away or straighten it up. Employees are not to eat meals at desks or in work areas. All locations have break rooms! Do not keep food at your desk or store food in your work area.
