Gun owners fear Maryland police target them for traffic stops - Washington Times

Gun owners fear Maryland police target them for traffic stops - Washington Times:
 - The Washington Times - Tuesday, December 30, 2014

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/dec/30/gun-owners-fear-maryland-cops-target-them-for-traf/

A year ago this New Year’s Eve, John Filippidis of Florida was driving south with his family on Interstate 95 when the Maryland Transportation Authority Police pulled over his black Ford Expedition and proceeded to raid it while his twins, wife and daughter looked on — separated in the back seats of different police cruisers.
The officers were searching for Mr. Filippidis‘ Florida-licensed, palm-size Kel-Tec .38 semi-automatic handgun, which he left at home locked in his safe. (Maryland does not recognize handgun permits issued by other states.)
When the search turned up nothing, Mr. Filippidis, 51, was allowed to go and was issued only a speeding warning.

NetRight Daily» Clouds on the solar horizon: "By Marita Noon

Consumers considering installing solar panels on their rooftops have far more to think through than the initial decision to “go solar.”"

Last month, it was reported that solar panels can be “dangerous in an emergency.” Firefighters have been forced to stop fighting a fire due to electrocution concerns. The report quotes Northampton, MA, Fire Chief Brian Duggan as saying electrocution is not their only concern: “cutting through the roof for ventilation would also take a lot longer.” Springfield fire commissioner Joe Conant says: “nothing will stop them if there’s a life to be saved, but if it’s simply to save the structure, solar panels may keep them from going on the roof.

A Fox News story on the risk solar panels pose to fire-fighters states: “Two recent fires involving structures decked with solar panels have triggered complaints from fire chiefs and calls for new codes and regulations that reflect the dangers posed by the clean-energy devices. A two-alarm fire last week at a home in Piedmont, Calif., prompted Piedmont Fire Chief Warren McLaren to say the technology ‘absolutely’ made it harder on firefighters. Weeks earlier, in Delanco, NJ, more than 7,000 solar panels on the roof of a massive 300,000-square foot warehouse factored into Delanco Fire Chief Ron Holt’s refusal to send his firefighters onto the roof of a Dietz & Watson facility.”

In part, due to the increased fire concerns, roof-top solar panels can increase the cost of homeowners insurance

Kevin Dayhoff The Tentacle - An Odd New Economic Cycle Driven by… Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Kevin E. Ed Liston - April 9, 2012: Stocks End Sharply Lower as Jobs Data Disappoints

Stocks End Sharply Lower as Jobs Data Disappoints

Stocks fell sharply in trading today as investors digested weaker than expected jobs report for the month of March. According to figures released by the Labor Department last Friday, the U.S. economy added only 120,000 jobs last month, well short of economists’ forecast.

The weaker than expected jobs report weighed down investors’ sentiment and has also cast doubts over the U.S. economic recovery. The Labor Department report, meanwhile, showed that the unemployment rate fell to 8.2% last month… http://thestockmarketwatch.com/stock-market-news/market-updates/stocks-end-sharply-lower-as-jobs-data-disappoints/24404

Joe Peyronnin – Huffington Post: Romney's Veep-Stakes

Romney's Veep-Stakes

Joe Peyronnin NYU Journalism Professor 04/ 2/2012

More leading Republicans are getting on the Romney bandwagon each day in hopes of ending the divisiveness that has characterized much of the Republican primary campaign so far. Even after all of their harsh criticisms, former Senator Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich have each said they will support Romney if he ends up getting the party's nomination. But they both, along with Representative Ron Paul, are still campaigning to be their party's standard-bearer.

Rick Santorum shows no signs of easing up. On Sunday, he compared Romney to Senator John McCain, who lost the 2008 election to President Barack Obama. "We came up with someone who wasn't able to win, "Santorum said on Fox News Sunday. "We don't need to repeat that again…
