#Brexit #Leave BREAKING: BBC: In stunning decision, Britain votes to leave the E.U.

This is what happens when a government feels that it can do whatever it pleases without consequence. This is what happens when governments turn a blind to the constituency it is supposed to serve. Someone smarter than me said it best, "the EU is too bureaucratic and exerts excessive control over its members...."

This what happens when a social-welfare system runs amok. In the EU, very few folks work so that they may pay for the benefits of too many that do not work... If the EU does not reform quickly, it will collapse under its own weight and follow the example of Venezuela.

Europe: BBC: In stunning decision, Britain votes to leave the E.U. #Brexit

By Griff Witte, Karla Adam and Dan Balz June 23 at 11:18 PM

[BREAKING: BBC: In stunning decision, Britain votes to leave the E.U.]

LONDON —Britain was bracing at dawn Friday for a possible plunge into the unknown — an exit from the European Union — as results from a bitterly contested referendum showed a strong surge of votes to leave, against the will of the country’s political establishment.

As results poured in through Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday, the “remain” camp was increasingly despairing, while “leave” advocates expressed a growing confidence that their side had pulled off a shocking victory.

Results from much of the country had yet to be counted as of 4 a.m. local time. But areas that had reported results generally showed stronger-than-expected margins for those advocating a British exit — popularly known as Brexit.

Charles Kennedy, former UK Liberal Democrat leader dead at 55

June 2, 2015 Tuesday morning.

Kevin E. Dayhoff

Likeable and talented, former Liberal Democrat Party leader Charles Kennedy dead far too young at 55. Sad and great loss for UK.  http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2015/06/charles-kennedy-former-uk-liberal.html

He died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Fort William. He was the leader of the Liberal Democrat Party from 1999 to 2006

“Chat Show Charlie,” as he was known for his frequent popular appearances on talk shows; was an affable and friendly Member of Parliament for about 31 years. He was first elected at age 23 in 1983 as a member of what was known then as the Social Democrats. He lost his seat last month in the SNP landslide in the general elections.

Leaders from throughout the political spectrum in the UK have heaped praise and honors on the life an accomplishments of Mr. Kennedy.

The popular elected leader was well-known for his spirited and principled opposition to the war in Iraq in 2003.

His family said they were devastated to lose a "fine man and loving father".

David Cameron said politics had lost a man of "immense ability", while Nick Clegg said his opposition to the Iraq war had been "enormously courageous".

Mr. Kennedy, who led his party from 1999 to 2006, lost his seat last month. No cause of death has been given but police said it was not suspicious. Read more from the BBC:

Bouvines 27 July 1214: The most important battle you've probably never heard of - The History News network

Bouvines 27 July 1214: The most important battle you've probably never heard of - The History News network July 27, 1214 http://hnn.us/article/156458

Today few people in the UK have heard of Bouvines. It has none of the ring of an Agincourt or a Crecy. Probably that is because England lost it. But the battle of 27 July 1214 was just as significant as England's later victories over the French. Maybe more so.

"Bouvines is the most important battle in English history that no-one has ever heard of," says John France, professor emeritus in medieval history at Swansea University.

"Without Bouvines there is no Magna Carta, and all the British and American law that stems from that. It's a muddy field, the armies are small, but everything depends on the struggle. It's one of the climactic moments of European history."

Which countries Americans like … and don’t | Pew Research Center: "BY

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/12/30/which-countries-americans-like-and-dont/

The trend among the U.S. public increasingly has been to turn away from international issues and focus on the home front. But while Americans have long been accused of lacking interest in the rest of the world, they have never lacked strong opinions about other countries.

As 2013 wanes, a Pew Research Center survey conducted Oct. 30-Nov. 6 found that Americans have strongly favorable views of some allies and negative opinions about a range of others. Some of this is driven by U.S. partisan politics. And history suggests all such opinions are subject to change.

Topping Americans’ most favored nations list are Canada (81%) and Great Britain " ...Read more:  http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/12/30/which-countries-americans-like-and-dont/

Foreign Policy: Amanda Thatcher delivered a reading from Ephesians 6: 10-18 at Margaret Thatcher's funeral

“… it was a 19-year-old Texan who stole the show from the deceased Iron Lady.

With poise reminiscent of the elder Thatcher, Amanda Thatcher, Margaret's granddaughter, delivered a reading from Epistles that has the British media agog. Amanda, who lives with her mother in Texas, chose a rather militant passage that calls on believers to "put on the whole armour of God…”

It was a great read...

“Amanda now lives in Texas with her mother, stepfather, and brother Michael. She is reportedly deeply religious, has carried out missionary work in China, and attends the University of Richmond in Virginia.

"Poised, eloquent, the descendant of conservative royalty, evangelical Christian, and Texas-bred: It all seems to add up to a promising political future. She certainly hit it out of the park in her introduction to the world, and isn't it pretty easy to picture a clip of Amanda's speech at her grandmother's funeral playing a role in a future campaign commercial?

What a great Bible passage... Ephesians 6:10-18

New King James Version (NKJV)

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— Ephesians 6: 10-18

New York Times: Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of Britain Has Died

Margaret Thatcher, a towering, divisive and yet revered figure in British politics, died on Monday of a stroke, her family said. She was 87.
Lady Thatcher had been in poor health for months. She served as prime minister for 11 years, beginning in 1979. She was known as the “Iron Lady,” a stern Conservative who transformed Britain’s way of thinking about its economic and political life, broke union power and opened the way to far greater private ownership.

Peter Ackroyd: 'Rioting has been a london tradition for centuries'

Peter Ackroyd: 'Rioting has been a london tradition for centuries'

The Monday Interview: The capital's greatest chronicler tells Andy McSmith why upsurges of violence are part of the city's texture

Monday, 22 August 2011

DAVID SANDISON
Peter Ackroyd sticks to a diligent routine as he works on three books at once
Peter Ackroyd is the greatest living chronicler of London, particularly its seamy, violent underside. In an age when historians and novelists are encouraged to be pundits and personalities, you would think he would be in demand after recent troubles.
But for 24-hour news, Ackroyd is a wash-out. The author of mighty studies of both London and of the River Thames has a watching-paint-dry view of history. He is struck how slowly and imperceptibly real history unfolds, and intrigued by the aspects of human life that endure for centuries. The rest, by and large, is stuff that happens.
Speaking in a book-lined office near King's Cross, London, within walking distance of where the rioting began, Mr Ackroyd resolutely refused to see a new epoch dawning. "I can't get at all worked up about these most recent phenomena," he said. "They simply show a pattern of activity in the city that will endure as long as the city itself endures...
