Fox News honors Frederick Co Sheriff Charles Jenkins as one of America's Top 10 Toughest Immigration Sheriffs

Fox News honors Frederick Co Sheriff Charles Jenkins as one of America's Top 10 Toughest Immigration Sheriffs

America's Top 10 'Toughest' Immigration Sheriffs

These top lawmen may not be household names, but they're vocal, vigilant and very determined to rid their counties of illegal immigrants.  Here's a look at some of the country's most outspoken anti-immigration advocates and some of their more significant actions:

Sheriff Charles Jenkins, Frederick County, Maryland

A lifelong resident of Frederick County, Md., Charles Jenkins initiated the controversial 287(g) Immigration Enforcement Program shortly after he was elected in 2006, becoming the first law enforcement official in Maryland to do so. The program, which some say leads to racial profiling, trains deputies to check the immigration status of individuals they arrest and has turned over at least 650 illegal immigrants in the county to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation hearings since its inception. Jenkins told "Maryland Sheriff" magazine last year that the program is the "single best thing" that any lawman could do to keep their citizens safe. He also testified before Congress in March 2009 on the importance of local enforcement of immigration laws. (Frederick County Sheriff's Office)

(CBS/AP)  October 10, 2011
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Hank Williams Jr. is about to have his say.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/10/10/sports/main20118058.shtml?tag=stack
Williams' has cut a new song "I'll Keep My ...," calling out "Fox & Friends" and ESPN after an interview last week on the Fox News talk show led to the end of his association with the sports network and "Monday Night Football," long home to his "Are you ready for some football?" theme.
He's also scheduled to appear on "The View" and "Hannity" on Tuesday to discuss the uproar that sprung up after he made an analogy that President Barack Obama and House Speaker Rep. John Boehner golfing together was like Nazi leader Adolph Hitler and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu playing a round.
ESPN decided to pull Williams' intro from last Monday's "MNF" telecast after the comments and the move became permanent Thursday when both sides said they'd decided to pull the spot.

Newsmax: Juan Williams Lambastes NPR as Exec Who Fired Him Steps Down

Juan Williams Lambastes NPR as Exec Who Fired Him Steps Down

By David A. Patten

Thursday, 06 Jan 2011 06:03 PM

News analyst Juan William contends that National Public Radio (NPR) promotes an “incestuous” organizational culture that is “not open to real news.” Williams’ scathing comments followed an independent review of his firing in October, which in turn led to the resignation of NPR news executive Ellen Weiss on Thursday.

Weiss fired the affable Williams for confessing on Fox News that he sometimes gets nervous when flying with Muslims dressed in traditional garb.

Shortly after the firing, NPR CEO Vivian Schiller said during remarks to the Atlanta Press Club that Williams should have kept his feelings between himself and “his psychiatrist or his publicist.”

Juan Williams, NPR, Fox, fired, WeissOn Thursday, Williams told Fox News host Megyn Kelly: “The whole idea was to demean me, and make me to appear as if I was not only a lunatic who needed a psychiatrist, but I was a loose cannon and not a professional news person.”

Schiller later apologized to Williams for what she described as “my thoughtless remark.”

The firing touched off a storm of criticism from conservative leaders who slammed NPR for rampant political correctness and liberal bias.

Among those coming to Williams’ defense: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

NewsBusters - Doocy: Blaming FNC for Sherrod Firing 'A Lie'

Rush Limbaugh Responds to JournoLister Wishing His Death

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has responded to reports that an NPR producer wrote gleefully about his death in an e-mail message to the now infamous JournoList.

As NewsBusters reported Wednesday, the Daily Caller's Jonathan Strong published some more of the liberal group's e-mail messages which included Sarah Spitz claiming that she would "Laugh loudly like a maniac and watch his eyes bug out" as Limbaugh writhed in torment.

With this in mind, both the Washington Examiner's Byron York and myself asked Limbaugh for a response to this nonsense.

Blaming Fox for Shirley Sherrod’s Firing 'a Lie,' Fox & Friends Host Declares

On Wednesday’s Fox & Friends, co-host Steve Doocy took strong exception to the NAACP’s claim it was “snookered” by Fox News into denouncing former Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod based on excerpts of a speech she delivered at a dinner in March.

“There’s a timeline problem,” Doocy pointed out, noting that the NAACP had on Monday night denounced Sherrod as “shameful,” the same day that she was pressured to quit her job (she says by the White House). But Fox News never mentioned the story until after Sherrod had quit. “So for anybody to say that Fox News pressured her out, that is simply a lie,” Doocy asserted.

NBC's Today Show Inaccurately Blames Fox News for Sherrod Firing

On Wednesday's Today show, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry and Savannah Guthrie left the impression that Fox News's criticism of Shirley Sherrod was the reason she lost her job at the Agriculture Department, with Lauer, in his interview with Sherrod, charging: "I don't know who to blame here, Miss Sherrod. I mean the, the, the activist who put forward this garbage in the first place has an agenda. We shouldn't be surprised by that. The cable news network that, that played this garbage on and on and talked about it, has an agenda. We shouldn't be surprised by that." But Lauer and NBC News, itself, revealed they have their own agenda, by failing to report, as the MRC's Rich Noyes pointed out, that Fox News didn't mention the Sherrod story until she had already left her job.

However, that didn't stop Curry from claiming, in the 8am half hour news brief, that: "After the video was used to vilify her on Fox television, she lost her job," and Guthrie advancing the NAACP's notion, in her piece, that they had been "snookered" by Fox News.

Exposed: The Left's anti-Glenn Beck smear campaign

townhall magazine

We should've seen it coming.

As his Fox News Channel television audience exploded in 2009, it was only a matter of time before the liberal Left organized itself into a full-court press against Glenn Beck.

Since the conservative radio phenom made the jump from CNN's Headline News to FNC, Beck has set cable ratings records, adding more fans to his radio audience of millions.

His five o'clock timeslot on Fox has grown to rival the primetime titans of cable news, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. Though O'Reilly and Hannity are no strangers to hatred from liberals, Glenn Beck's "fusion of entertainment and enlightenment" incites a particularly unique level of vitriol unmatched by any other television commentator today.

The concentrated disdain for Beck has also united the Left behind one common goal: getting him off the air. Various levels of the Left—from grassroots organizers to the Obama White House—are working in an all-hands-on-deck concert to discredit Beck with a barrage of attacks in a relentless smear campaign.

Order your subscription today to ensure you get the July 2010 issue.

You've heard Beck talk about this piece and our list of "The 100 Americans the Left Hates Most" from our July 2010 issue. In fact, he had the writer of this piece, Meredith Jessup, on his program this morning. Here's an excerpt from Meredith's report:
LET THE BOYCOTTS BEGIN

To Beck's regular audience, his disregard for political correctness and adherence to no-nonsense common sense are refreshing. To his detractors, he is a fear-mongering extremist whose opinions represent reckless "vitriolic rhetoric."

When third-year University of Wisconsin law student Angelo Carusone was annoyed by Beck's "controversial" opinions, he launched StopBeck.com—an online effort aimed at pressuring advertisers to withdraw their commercial support from Beck's broadcast on Fox and, in turn, force Beck off the air.

Working from an office in his two-bedroom apartment in Madison, Wis., Carusone sends sound bites of Beck's show to corporate sponsors and questions whether their products and services should support Beck's programming. In many cases, this slight nudge is enough to make the targeted advertisers pull their commercials.

If advertisers don't pull their support, Carusone uses his website and social networking sites to organize other Beck opponents—including his nearly 8,000 followers on Twitter—to bombard the companies with messages in support of a Beck advertising boycott. And if the snowballing effect of thousands of outspoken anti-Beck activists doesn't stir enough commotion for a company to relent, Carusone picks up the phone to personally confront them. In what he calls his "least flattering method of persuasion," Carusone argues with corporate media executives until they give in.

StopBeck.com also claims that Beck "uses his media platform to disseminate vitriolic hateful rhetoric and stoke racial anxieties," and the group works in conjunction with ColorofChange.org—a group founded by dismissed Obama green jobs czar Van Jones—in boycotting Beck's commercial sponsors. Both organizations disparaged Beck for questioning President Obama's personal motives in condemning the Cambridge, Mass., Police for arresting Harvard professor Henry Gates in 2009.

ColorofChange.org Executive Director James Rucker told Townhall that the group's goal has been "to bring Beck's pattern of race-baiting to advertisers' attention, to let them know about our members' concerns and to ask whether those companies feel comfortable enabling Beck's rhetoric." But when rapper Kanye West infamously stated that President George W. Bush "doesn’t care about black people" following Hurricane Katrina, there was no boycott of West's album sales. And when pressed by Townhall about uber-Leftist comedian Bill Maher's recent comments about Barack Obama not being a "real black president" because he didn't carry a loaded pistol in his waistband, Rucker and Color of Change did not respond. By Color of Change's own standards, these comments seem "repulsive and dismissive," yet Beck and Fox News remain the group's only boycott targets.

Color of Change and StopBeck.com represent a small niche of the anti-Beck movement on the Left that uses advertising dollars as leverage to silence what they refer to as Glenn Beck's "brand of hate"—a "brand" they’ve constructed by using selective interpretation of mere fragments of Beck's contextual dialogue.

But the Left's efforts in smearing and silencing Beck run well beyond the limits of these two online campaigns. The complex structure of the Left's Glenn Beck smear campaign also includes some familiar big players in liberal politics.
