News from The Hill The 18-month battle to get White House Benghazi emails - By Kristina Wong

MediaBistro TVNewser: How The Evening Newscasts Reported The New Benghazi Emails
How The Evening Newscasts Reported The New Benghazi Emails (TVNewser)
CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley was the only evening newscast Wednesday night to not cover newly uncovered emails from White House adviser Ben Rhodes, which provided talking points to former U.N. ambassador Susan Rice before her Sunday show interviews several days after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in Sept. 2012. Rhodes' email to Rice advised her to stress that the Benghazi attacks were rooted in a controversial YouTube video, "and not a broader failure of policy."
Mediaite When the new Benghazi information was made public this week, CBS News covered the new details online (with a disclosure that Ben Rhodes is the brother of CBS News president David Rhodes) but not in its CBS Evening News broadcast. Some conservative sites claimed a serious conflict of interest, with the Heritage Network blog and the Washington Free Beacon picking up on the familial connection.
HuffPost According to a network spokesperson, David Rhodes was not involved in editorial discussions on Wednesday about whether CBS Evening News should cover the email. Fox News and other conservative outlets have long claimed that the Benghazi attack hasn't received enough media attention, even as the subject's been hashed out numerous times in White House briefing room and journalists have covered the story consistently.
The Daily Caller ABC World News ran a lengthy segment on the revelations Wednesday, saying the White House was "feeling the heat" and that the "email seems to call into question what the White House said about its role" in deceiving the public about the cause of the Benghazi attacks. Likewise, NBC Nightly News highlighted the new emails Wednesday night.

Which countries Americans like … and don’t | Pew Research Center
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/12/30/which-countries-americans-like-and-dont/
The trend among the U.S. public increasingly has been to turn away from international issues and focus on the home front. But while Americans have long been accused of lacking interest in the rest of the world, they have never lacked strong opinions about other countries.
As 2013 wanes, a Pew Research Center survey conducted Oct. 30-Nov. 6 found that Americans have strongly favorable views of some allies and negative opinions about a range of others. Some of this is driven by U.S. partisan politics. And history suggests all such opinions are subject to change.
Topping Americans’ most favored nations list are Canada (81%) and Great Britain " ...Read more: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/12/30/which-countries-americans-like-and-dont/

Obama Preparing Congress For Clash With Netanyahu
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz has a fascinating report on the administration's attempts, via talks with Democratic legislators, to preempt the influence of the right-wing Netanyahu government here in the U.S.
[…]
American supporters of the Netanyahu position are already pressing their case, as Elliott Abrams, a former deputy national security adviser under President Bush, does today in a Washington Post op-ed. So far, there is good evidence that Obama will have a stiff(er) spine when dealing with conservative Israel supporters who seem to have no qualms about the reactionary positions of the country's new government. In Istanbul Monday, the president stated,

U.S.-India Nuclear Chickens Coming Home to Roost by Robin Walker
U.S.-India Nuclear Chickens Coming Home to Roost by Robin Walker

October 27th, 2008 by Jim Arkedis
The following is the latest in our series from fellows in the Truman National Security Project. Robin Walker writes:
The recently-completed U.S.-India civilian nuclear deal put a major crack in the nonproliferation dam of the non-proliferation treaty (NPT), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). That’s in addition to the the announcement last week that China will build two nuclear reactors in Pakistan. The next president will have to move quickly to prevent the complete destruction of the existing nonproliferation regime and a potentially rapid spread of nuclear weapons that could follow.
Under the U.S.-India deal, the United States agreed to provide nuclear fuel for India and enable U.S. firms to sell nuclear it technology. In exchange, India will allow international inspectors and IAEA safeguards at their civilian (but not military) nuclear sites.
The deal is controversial because it would give India—a non-signer of the NPT like neighbor Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel—the de facto rights of a nuclear weapons state under the NPT, which bans nuclear trade with non-signers and non-nuclear countries.

Options for the next president include:
