40 Years In The Desert: It's Official, Libya is a Bug Hunt

40 Years In The DesertIt's Official, Libya is a Bug Hunt

So a NATO Spokesman has just admitted that NATO is attempting to assassinate Muammar Gaddafi:
A U.N. resolution justifies the targeting of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, a senior NATO military official with operational knowledge of the Libya mission told CNN Thursday.

Asked by CNN whether Gadhafi was being targeted, the NATO official declined to give a direct answer. The resolution applies to Gadhafi because, as head of the military, he is part of the control and command structure and therefore a legitimate target, the official said.

NATO has been ramping up pressure on the regime, employing helicopters last weekend for the first time against Gadhafi's forces. Explosions are heard often in Tripoli, evidence of allied air strikes.

NATO began bombing Libya on March 31, under a U.N. mandate to protect civilians who have been targeted by Gadhafi's military.
Unsurprising. Since Gadhafi's forces are not folding up under the air assault, the French and the British are desperate to avoid defeat, or worse, the need to send in ground troops, either of which will sink both UK PM Cameron and French President Sarkosy.

This was intended to be a neat neo-colonial adventure with the attendant electoral boost,  killing a few "wogs" for a few votes, but now its looking like a complete clusterf%$#.  http://40yrs.blogspot.com/2011/06/its-official-libya-is-bug-hunt.html

The New York Times: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Will Resign as Labour Party Leader By September

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Will Resign as Labour Party Leader By September

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Monday that he will
resign -- but first hopes to broker a pact with the
third-place Liberal Democrats to keep his Labour Party in
office as part of a coalition government.

Brown said his Labour Party, which came a distant second in
Thursday's national election, would begin a leadership
contest to replace him as he focused on talks with the
Liberal Democrats aimed at breaking Britain's election
deadlock.

Brown's comments came as the Conservatives, who won the most
seats but not a majority, were already holding talks with the
Liberal Democrats. Some lawmakers said those talks had
stalled over differences on key issues, including reform of
the voting system.

Thatchers Daughter Reveals Ex Premier Has Dementia by Kevin Sullivan for the Washington Post

Thatchers Daughter Reveals Ex Premier Has Dementia by Kevin Sullivan for the Washington Post

On Tuesday, August 26, 2008, Kevin Sullivan wrote a piece for the Washington Post that the former prime minister of Britain, Margaret Thatcher, now 82, has a form of geriatric onset dementia.

Although such as been rumored for quite sometime; for many of us who admired her public service – whether or not we agreed with all of her decisions and approaches - the news was greeted with great sadness.

History will be kind to Mrs. Thatcher.

However, even more so sad was the reaction of
too many folks in the comment section.

For many of us who have never gotten used to the vile personal viciousness of the left, the comments seemed way over the top. (Related - See:

Thatcher's Daughter Reveals Britain's Ex-Premier Has Dementia

By Kevin Sullivan

Washington Post Foreign Service

Tuesday, August 26, 2008; A10

LONDON, Aug. 25 -- The daughter of
Margaret Thatcher has disclosed that Britain's former prime minister is suffering from dementia, in the family's first public confirmation of what has been widely rumored in Britain for several years.

Thatcher's condition has deteriorated so much that she forgets that her husband, Denis Thatcher, died in 2003, her daughter reports in a memoir to be published next month, serialized over the weekend in the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

"I had to keep giving her the bad news over and over again," Carol Thatcher wrote. "Every time it finally sank in that she had lost her husband of more than 50 years, she'd look at me sadly and say 'Oh' as I struggled to compose myself. 'Were we all there?' she'd ask softly."

Carol Thatcher said she first noticed her mother's failing memory over lunch in 2000, a decade after she left 10 Downing Street. Margaret Thatcher was prime minister from 1979 to 1990.

[…]

In her book, "A Swim-On Part in the Goldfish Bowl: A Memoir," Carol Thatcher wrote that her mother still shows flashes of her old self, particularly about events from her time in office.

20070115 Documents Show France Proposed Union With Britain in 1956

Documents Show France Proposed Union With Britain in 1956

January 17th, 2007

Fox News is carrying an interesting AP story that says that Britain and France considered merging in 1956.

The revelation that the French government proposed a union of Britain and France in 1956 — even offering to accept the sovereignty of the British Queen — has left scholars on both sides of the Channel scratching their heads.

Newly discovered documents in Britain's National Archives show how former French Prime Minister Guy Mollet discussed the possibility of a merger between the two countries with British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden.

"I completely fell off my seat," said Richard Vinen, an expert in French history at King's College in London. "It's such a bizarre thing to propose."

Fact is stranger than fiction. If this were to have been written in a novel, it would’ve been denounced as too implausible.

Whatever.
