Attempted Armed Robbery Arrest
At 2:24 AM today, FPD received a 911 call for an attempted armed robbery which had just occurred on Carroll Creek linear park near Wells Fargo bank.
Responding officers were able to quickly establish a perimeter and detained three subjects running from the scene.
After contact with the victim and two witnesses, all three were able to separately identify Tyler Lee Shields (01/17/1991) as the person who threatened the victim by saying he had a gun and demanding cigarettes, which the victim did not have.
Shields was arrested and taken to Central Booking, where he was charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Attempted Robbery and Disorderly Conduct.

Silvio Berlusconi has declared he is “stepping aside” from
front-line Italian politics, revealing he has no intention of running again as
prime minister.
In his first interview since resigning amid turmoil on
financial markets in November, Mr Berlusconi spoke to the Financial Times
at his Rome residence on subjects from what he called a media-inspired furore
over his “bunga bunga” parties to his anger at “leftwing” magistrates hounding
him in the courts and his drive to promote political and judicial reforms.
Mr Berlusconi also gave his strongest endorsement to date of
the technocratic government led by
Mario Monti which took over from his own, in particular its intention to
implement labour market reforms opposed by trade unions.

The call from the Central Intelligence Agency came on a December afternoon in 2009 while Gary Anderson was skiing with his three children. It’s about your wife, the agency man said.
Standing inside Eagle Rock ski lodge in Pennsylvania, Anderson pleaded for details. The CIA official said simply: Where are you? We’ll meet you.
Anderson suspected dreadful news about Jennifer Matthews, his college sweetheart, his wife of 22 years and a CIA operative on assignment almost 7,000 miles away in Afghanistan. With several hours until the CIA meeting, Anderson and his three children — then 12, 9 and 6 — hit the slopes for one more hour. The father wanted to cling a little longer to normalcy, to a life between before and after.
Finally, the Fredericksburg family got into their silver minivan and headed to a nearby motel. There, in a sterile conference room, CIA officials told Anderson the news: His wife, one of the CIA’s top al-Qaeda experts, had just been killed in an explosion at a base in Khost province, in eastern Afghanistan. There was no mention of a double agent, no indication that six other CIA operatives had died in the deadliest attack on agency personnel in decades.

Since the death of Canadian skier Sarah Burke in January, fans and supporters from around the world have donated over $300,000 – more than enough to cover the massive U.S. medical bill generated by efforts to save her.
The outpouring of grief for Burke and the influx of funds are a tribute to a young woman who was a pioneer and legend in her sport. The need for a fundraiser — to help her grieving family avert bankruptcy — was viewed by some Canadians and U.S. observers as a condemnation of the U.S. health care system.
"The irony is that had the accident occurred in Canada… her care would have been covered because, unlike the U.S., Canada has a system of universal coverage," wrote Wendell Potter, an insurance executive-turned-whistleblower who writes for iWatch at the Center for Public Integrity. Basket Ball—Dropping in two pointers with regularity, the Blue Ridge College girls' basketball team easily defeated the Westminster High School sextet, 24 to 13 at New Windsor, Friday.
Clever shooting from the floor by Miss Garber and Miss McKinney spelled defeat for the younger lassies, who fought valiantly, but could not cope with the tight defense of the winners.
Miss Myerly found the net for three neat shots from the floor, while Miss Jones was a dead shot at the 15-foot line, making good on four of her five chances.
The winning combination is priming for the next battle, booked for February 1 with the Western Maryland girls at the New Windsor court.

Community Reporter Editorial - Is There A Gasoline Shortage?— With Congress getting its "back up" at last over the energy crisis, oil companies are being forced to reveal that their storage tanks are overflowing and that they actually have more gasoline on hand than at this time last year.
Yet, through a foolish and totally unfathomable policy of the energy administration, gasoline stations in numbers of localities are being denied the amounts of gasoline that customers need to carry out their normal operations of travel — many times with serious implications to their work and their means of earning a livelihood.
There is every evidence that there is enough gasoline to permit normal operation of these stations, but under the monthly quota established they are prevented from receiving what they need to maintain their businesses.
Just what is back of this ridiculous contrived shortage?
Is it, as some suggest, a political maneuver to take people's attention off the "watergate" mess? Or is it, as seems much more likely, a deliberate attempt to force up prices and give the oil companies larger profits, in order that the government can collect higher taxes from them?

American Sentinel, January 29, 1898: The Hotel Question in Silver Run
Silver Run Items—The hotel question is again being discussed among the people of our village. There was a new applicant around for signers, but we cannot say at present whether he will succeed in procuring them or not.
There have been no hotels in this place since last May, and since that time every thing has moved along quietly and all appear to be as happy and hearty as they were before the hotels were closed. But it seems that some of those that do feel happy and hearty since the hotels are closed are still not contented.
It is rumored that some of them that fought hard to have the hotels closed last spring are now giving their consent to have them opened again. This may be a false report, which we hope it is, and if it is not, hereafter we cannot judge our good people by their appearance at first sight.

A new poll found that 62% of rural respondents favored tighter regulations on septic systems, and 57% favored “limiting the number of septic systems in rural areas.”
The poll of 801 registered voters by Opinion Works in mid-December found statewide support was 72% for tighter septic regulations, and 69% for limiting the number septic systems in the state.

A 1st. Told ya Microsoft is behind the cable software Its got the cust service
A 1st. I had never received the "blue screen of death" before on my cable TV screen... Told ya Microsoft is behind the cable software. Cable TV - Comcast has got the horrid customer service down pat. Now comes the blue screen death. Next will come the invasive upgrades from heck. I'm just saying.
last year it was the Comcast digital cable box hardware upgrade - from hell. It took an enormous amount of time, several false starts and lots of time on the phone with "customer service." Now comes the software upgrade...
