Even in Italy, healthy peasant fare like the fresh vegetables and fruits at this market stall in Venice isn't cheap, leading many there to abandon the famously healthy Mediterranean diet.
HEALTH
The Mediterranean diet is not alive and well in 2011 — even in the seaside Italian town where it was first studied. Obesity rates in Italy are soaring, especially among young people. The heart of the problem: Even in Italy, healthy peasant food like fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil and fish isn't cheap.
PLANET MONEY
Travel enthusiasts buy thousands of coins with credit cards that award frequent-flier miles for purchases. The government picks up the tab for shipping.

THREE BOOKS...
This Friday the credits will roll on the phenomenon that is Harry Potter. As fans prepare to graduate from the series of books and movies, they're left to wonder what the future will hold. NPR intern Annie Ropeik prepared her postgrad reading list with three books for the matureHarry Potter fan.

KITCHEN WINDOW
Beat the heat (and the spaghetti-and-meatball doldrums) by pairing fun pasta shapes with fast, fresh sauces — hardly sauces at all, actually, but simple sautes of vegetables and herbs in olive oil.

ATLANTIC OCEAN - A unique moment took place the evening of July 14, when USS Enterprise and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower crossed paths in the Atlantic Ocean off the East Coast.

Enterprise, on its way home from a regularly-scheduled seven-month deployment to the Sixth Fleet and Fifth Fleet areas of responsibility, had just picked up its crew’s family members from Mayport, Fl., for a Tiger Cruise. Eisenhower was off the Southeastern Coast conducting the largest carrier qualification in recent memory  for squadrons around the country.

The common link between the two ships was Capt. Dee L. Mewbourne, Enterprise’s commanding officer (CO), who was returning home from his third deployment as CO of a carrier in three years. Mewbourne had previously commanded Eisenhower on its two deployments in 2009 and 2010.

The ships spent some time alongside each other, and photos were snapped from helicopters in the air and Sailors and their families on both ships...
