Stan Dabkowski’s “Farmer Stan’s Plants and Produce” food booth in the Shipley Arena is always a favorite destination at the Carroll County Md Fair.

Stan is awesome. For years I always requested marinated asparagus spears - and one year he made them for me. Too funny.

Stop by and ask for marinated asparagus spears. Tell Stan, Kevin sent you.

The food review at the fair is always important information for Jake Holmes. Just saying. This year I enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. Wow, I will have to run extra this week.

A friend suggested, “Get an Apple.” I have an Apple and I was a pathetic Apple immigrant. Threw my hands up the air and went back to PC. But Caroline gets along with the Apple just great. Me, not so much. In the end, I gotta get my work finished... My editors do not care what I use to write stories - they just care that I get them written.

It very well may not be a Windows 10 upgrade failure... I suspect that I am dealing with a drive failure... I'm now trying to upgrade one of my back-up systems... We shall see. The desktop was an upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10. The backup system is going t go from Win 8.1 to 10... Hoping for a different result.

Carroll firefighters respond to a house fire on Western Chapel Road

Carroll firefighters respond to a house fire on Western Chapel Road http://kevindayhoffwestgov-net.blogspot.com/2015/07/carroll-firefighters-respond-to-house.html

Westminster Volunteer Fire Department PIO Kevin Dayhoff

Eighty firefighters from eight Carroll County fire companies responded late Tuesday evening to fight a single-alarm house fire in the 1300 block of Western Chapel Road.

The first came into the Carroll County emergency operations center for an investigation of a reported large outdoor fire at 10:18 p.m. At 10:34 the fire was upgraded to a box alarm for a house fire, and shortly after a tanker task force was requested to help supply water.

Firefighters from Westminster, Union Bridge, New Windsor, Pleasant Valley, Manchester, Taneytown, Hampstead, and Gamber remained on the scene for over three hours. The fire was declared under control shortly after midnight, according to the EOC. Units from Frederick and Baltimore County backed-up county stations.

New Windsor firefighters stayed on the scene until past 4 a.m. to assist the fire marshall’s investigation.

The fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall. According to the fire marshall’s office, the 2-story log home was vacant at the time and suffered $25,000 in damages. “The vacant home was being prepared for demolition. Anyone having information concerning this fire is asked to contact 410-386-3030.”

Westminster Volunteer Fire Department PIO Bob Cumberland and incident commander Josh Evans assisted with this article.

Obituary for George Ronald Weisgerber

My first memory of Mr. Weisgerber was working on the new Westminster High School construction site in 1971. I was working for Tom Senseney Landscaping. It was fascinating to talk with him. He had an amazing mind. He was among a number of great examples that I met growing-up in Westminster - that it is not good enough to be the best – you have to be nice. Mr. Weisgerber was a really-really nice man.

Family and friends may call at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, MD 21157 on Wednesday July 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

The funeral will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll Street, Westminster at 11:00 am on Thursday July 30. Interment will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Born in Baltimore to George B. and Margaret A. Weisgerber. He was the husband of Martha Jean Stephens for 57 year.

He was a 1951 graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute High School. Ron graduated from the School of Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park in 1956. While there he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He later earned a business degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.

Ron joined the United States Navy in 1956 and after Officer Candidate School became a member of the Seabee Corp of Civil Engineers. He retired a Commander after 20 years of service in the Naval Reserve.

In 1962 he began working for Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. in Westminster. He had a 41-year career with TBH and served as president the last 10 years, retiring in 2003. He had also served as president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Concrete Institute 1989 – 90, and the Maryland Ready Mix Concrete Association in 1981.

Surviving are his three children and their spouses David Weisgerber & Maura Fisher of Frederick, Janice & Jerry Regan of New Tripoli, PA, and Susan & Michael DiPietro of Westminster. Seven grandchildren are William, John & Andrew Weisgerber, Michael & Kevin Regan, and Samuel & Margaret DiPietro.

His sister Nancy Lee Lewis of Baltimore preceded him in death. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the University of Maryland College Park Foundation for the G. Ronald & Martha Weisgerber Undergraduate Scholarship Fund, 3207 Kim Engineering Building, College Park, MD 20742, or the Carroll Community College Foundation for the G. We Bid Farewell to Aaron Wilson

Tony Lombardi Posted 14 minutes ago in LOMBARDI'S WAY

"Back in 2005 I approached Aaron Wilson, then a beat writer for the Carroll County Times covering the Baltimore Ravens, about collaborating in some way. I sought to bring more volume and legitimacy to Ravens24x7.com and who better to do that than Wilson?

Since Aaron’s first assignment in Baltimore covering the 2001 NFL Draft, he has always been a beast with a work ethic second to none. His tenacity and tirelessness command the respect of his peers, the team he covers and of course the many fans who consider him to be the premier source for Ravens information.

With the permission of the Carroll County Times, specifically Aaron’s editor Bob Blubaugh, we were able to work out a mutually beneficial partnership."
