Robert McCurdy 2018 newspaper article - Pleasant Valley Fire Company firefighter bagpiper

Robert McCurdy 2018 Pleasant Valley Fire Company firefighter bagpiper - - Re-reading a really nice Carroll County article from May 21, 2018, about a local hero, Robert McCurdy, written by Jon Kelvey. Give it a minute or two to read. It is well-worth your time.

Pleasant Valley firefighter lends his pipes to 12 years of 'Amazing Grace' in Dulaney Valley by JON KELVEY CARROLL COUNTY TIMES | MAY 21, 2018

McCurdy is a retired Baltimore City firefighter and a volunteer firefighter with the Pleasant Valley fire company and first performed at Dulaney Valley in 2007 in honor of Sgt. Brian R. Conner, a member of the Maryland Army National Guard, who was killed in action in Iraq. Conner was also a Baltimore City firefighter.

“The deputy chief in charge of the honor guard at the time had asked the folks down there if I would be able to join in since they were honoring a firefighter as well as his being in the military,” McCurdy said. “They graciously said yes.”

McCurdy has been playing there ever since.

RunMoore running shoe store, Westminster Maryland

I finally got around to replacing a pair of worn-out running shoes at RunMoore, the shoe store for runners at 28 W. Main Street, in Westminster. www.letsrunmoore.com 443-201-8203

Caroline and I have purchased a lot of shoes from this store. For the casual or serious runner or walker, this store is epic.  The customer service is like the old days in Westminster when the stores were all family owned and the sales representatives were actually personally interested in you having a positive customer experience.

Earlier in the year, at the beginning of the pandemic, and stores were being shuttered, Caroline called the store about replacing a pair of shoes. They keep great records of your past purchases - and Caroline pretty-much knew what she needed. Later in the day, Caroline was able to pull-up in front of the store, give them a call, at which time, they brought the shoes to the car and put them in the trunk. No contact. Engage, adapt, overcome.

Downtown Westminster is awesome.

“Cranberry Station - Railroad to the moon”

"Cranberry Station - Railroad to the moon" Tuesday, August 4, 2020 10:12 p.m. in Cranberry Station, Westminster, Carroll County Maryland. The full moon created a stunning backdrop as just to the left of the picture the Westminster public works utility maintenance crew was working together as if they were performing in a carefully choreographed ballet and they worked to remove and replace a section of a broken water main pipe. The hum of the diesel engines added to the musical backdrop and they sang instructions to each other. It was actually quite a performance.

The Harford County Lynching Memorial Committee

The Harford County Lynching Memorial Committee

Lynching Victims in Harford County

Issac Moore, died July 22, 1868
Jim Quinn, died Oct. 2, 1869
Lewis Harris, died March 26, 1900

The Harford County Lynching Memorial Committee, established in March 2019, is working to memorialize the victims of this terrible era in the County. The project included plans for a soil collection ceremony in March 2019 and later in the year a marker dedication. However, as the pandemic has resulted in stay-at-home and social distancing orders, the committee's outreach work has been disrupted. Thus, we are using the blog to keep the community informed about our research, plans, and activities. Be sure to follow the blog since we will provide updated content here as we continue our work to document and memorialize victims of these crimes.
