BASEBALL AND THE PRESIDENCY

Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library presents:
BASEBALL AND THE PRESIDENCY
A Multimedia Presentation by Mel Marmer
April 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.

HYDE PARK, NY -- The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum is pleased to present BASEBALL AND THE PRESIDENCY, a multimedia presentation by Mel Marmer tracing the relationship between America's highest office and America's favorite pastime -- from President Harrison to President Obama. The program will take place at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Which U.S. President delivered the most ceremonial first pitches in Washington, D.C.? Who was the first President to throw a first pitch at a Major League Baseball All Star Game? Mr. Marmer's presentation answers these questions and explores the special relationship between the Presidency and baseball from the mid-Nineteenth century to the present day.

Program attendees will receive a packet of reference materials including a copy of FDR's famous "Green Light Letter" from the Roosevelt Library archives. In the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack and America's entry into World War II, Baseball Commissioner Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis grew concerned about the propriety of proceeding with the 1942 baseball season. President Roosevelt promptly responded to Judge Landis' inquiry with what has become known as the "Green Light Letter" -- giving baseball the green light to proceed and expressing the value of baseball in time of war. The signed copy of Roosevelt's Green Light Letter received by Judge Landis now resides at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

MEL MARMER is a retired Cincinnati tax attorney and baseball historian who has delivered over 40 baseball presentations in the last three years. He has presented BASEBALL AND THE PRESIDENCY at the Eisenhower, Ford and Truman Presidential Libraries; the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center; the William H. Taft National Historic Site and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. He lives with his wife Cynthia in Cincinnati, Ohio.

SBA List Candidate Fund Endorses Sue Lowden for U.S. Senate

SBA List Candidate Fund Endorses Sue Lowden for U.S. Senate

Dannenfelser: 'Sue Lowden combines everything we are looking for: an articulate female spokesman with the courage to back it up with advocacy for the unborn and their mothers'

WASHINGTON, March 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- "The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse Sue Lowden for U.S. Senate in Nevada," said SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

"Sue Lowden is exactly the type of authentic pro-life candidate Americans are hungry for, and that's why the SBA List Candidate Fund is prepared to highlight her race among a handful of priority contests in 2010.

"Right now there is a crying need for a pro-life woman's voice in the Senate and Sue Lowden is committed to being that voice. If elected, Sue Lowden has committed to be actively engaged in advancing legislation that protects the unborn and women. Sue combines everything we are looking for: an articulate female spokesman with the courage to back it up with advocacy for the unborn and women."

Sue Lowden's pro-life record spans back to her time as a Nevada state senator, where she championed a parental notification bill through committee to the floor of the Nevada State Senate.

The Nevada primary election is scheduled for June 8, 2010, where Lowden will face Danny Tarkanian and Sharron Angle.

In the general election, Sue Lowden will challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Despite running as a pro-life candidate, Senator Reid holds a 0% voting record with the National Right to Life Committee for the 111th Congress. In the recent healthcare debate, Reid refused to support authentic pro-life amendments. In the Fall of 2009, the Susan B. Anthony List spent $100,000 on commercials asking Harry Reid to keep abortion out of healthcare.

Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund endorsements are promoted to the organization's nationwide membership of over 280,000 Americans. The SBA List Candidate Fund endorses pro-life female candidates, as well as pro- life male candidates who run against female candidates in favor of abortion rights. During the 2008 election cycle, the Susan B. Anthony List bundled over $1 million in direct candidate contributions from its members.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 280,000 Americans, residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

BJ Dixon nominates Councilwoman Wendi Peters for the Office of Mount Airy Mayor

BJ Dixon nominates Councilwoman Wendi Peters for the Office of Mount Airy Mayor By Kevin Dayhoff for Soundtrack March 29, 2010

The mayor’s office and two council seats are up for grabs this coming May 3 when Mount Airy citizens go to the polls to select new leadership for the town.

It was standing room only at the Mount Airy board of supervisors of elections citizens’ meeting on March 8, 2010, in the town hall council chambers. The chair of the elections board, Bruce Walz, banged the gavel and brought the short, 20-minute meeting to order at precisely 7 p.m.

Citizens, from the town of almost 10,000, which straddles the Frederick and Carroll County border, crowded into the room to nominate candidates to vie for the mayor’s office, currently held by Peter Helt; and two council seats, currently held by Gary Nelson and Chris Everich.

Citizens nominated Wendi Peters, currently a town councilmember, and Patrick Rockinberg, who currently serves as the vice-chair of the Mount Airy planning and zoning commission to vie for mayor.

For the two council seats, citizens choose three to stand for election: David M. Blais, Scott Strong, and incumbent councilmember Chris Everich.

At the Mount Airy board of supervisors of elections citizens’ meeting, former Mount Airy town clerk BJ Dixon nominated councilwoman Wendi Peters to run for the mayor’s office in the upcoming municipal elections.

That evening, Ms. Dixon said:

“Good Evening, For those that don’t know me, I’m B.J. Dixon. My husband, Carl, and I have lived in the Town for 44 years. I recently retired as a 30-year employee with the Town of Mount Airy.

“I’m here this evening not only as a resident of the Town; not only as a past employee of the Town; but as a concerned citizen that feels we need to get the Town back on track with someone that has leadership abilities.

“I’m here to nominate Councilwoman Wendi Peters for the Office of Mayor.

“Having worked with Wendi over the years, I believe she has the experience to lead the Town into the future. Wendi understands the workings of our government, she is a problem solver and possesses the ability to stand up and take on tough decisions.

“We need to quit drawing lines in the sand. We need stability and continuity back in our Town. We need Wendi Peters to do just that. With her experience, her leadership and her commitment, I’m confident she will get this Town back to one that we can be proud to call “Our Town”. Our Town with a strong, bright future.”

After the meeting, councilwoman Peter’s released the following statement:

“Tonight I am honored to have BJ Dixon place my name in nomination to run for Mayor of Mount Airy. I am honored to have her trust, respect and support as our former Town Clerk and a retired 30 year employee of the Town of Mount Airy.

“The past year has been challenging for our town in many ways. While some of these challenges remain, I am confident with new leadership, a strong, dedicated staff and devoted volunteers we can confront these challenges and work together for the best interests of all of our residents.

“I am honored to have served my hometown in various capacities over the last 20 years. I have consistently shown I will always stand up for what I believe is in the best interests of our town. I am committed to identifying and solving problems while looking forward with a sense of vision. … This is a very important election and I need your support. Thanks very much, Wendi Peters”

On the evening of the citizens’ nominations the League of Women Voters of Carroll County announced that the non-partisan organization will hold a candidates’ forum on March 31 at 7 p.m. for those running for office.

The forum will be held at the Mount Airy town hall and will be broadcast live by the Community Media Center. The forum will feature questions developed by the League and questions from the audience. For more information about the forum, contact the League at info@carroll.lwvmd.org.

The last day for write-in candidates to get on the ballot is 5 p.m. April 12. The deadline to register to vote is April 5 and absentee ballots are available at the town offices up until April 15.

Elections are held in the town every two years. Citizens will have an opportunity to vote for one mayor and two councilmembers on Monday, May 3, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Firemen's Activities Building on Twin Arch Road.

For more information call the town office at 410-795-6012 or 301-829-1424 or visit the town web site at http://www.mountairymd.org/.

Michael Steele and the RNC are alleged to have walked on the wide side

It’s been a month of “explaining” for RNC Chairman Michael Steele – and there’s likely to be more coming.

The Daily Caller reports on some excessive spending from the RNC (and Steele personally), including nearly $2,000 at a “bondage-themed nightclub.”

Here’s some of the Daily Caller’s report:

A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.

Let’s go to the Republican ‘please avoid’ checklist: Hollywood? Check. Bondage-themed? Check. Topless women? Check. Lesbian sex? Check.

Needless to say, although Steele wasn’t talking to the Daily Caller, his spokesperson is already speaking out against the “erroneous” report. A spokesman tells National Review:

We are investigating the expenditure in question. The story willfully and erroneously suggests that the expenditure in question was one belonging to the chairman. This was a reimbursement made to a non-committee staffer. The chairman was never at the location in question, he had no knowledge of the expenditure, nor does he find the use of committee funds at such a location at all acceptable.

There’s more in here that just doesn’t look good. $17,514 on “private aircraft in the month of February alone” (and another $12,691 on limos), compared to zero from DNC Chair Tim Kaine in the last three months. And now, according to the story, Steele wants to buy a private jet.

This story is continuing to break – MSNBC has teased an upcoming segment, but it has yet to be mentioned on the three cablers. That will change, and we’ll update as it does.

The Airports You Actually Want To Get Stuck In (PHOTOS)

The World's Best Airports: Skytrax (PHOTOS)

March 29, 2010
This week the British consulting firm Skytrax released its World Airport Awards, an annual ranking of the world's airports.

Now in its eleventh year, the study, which was funded strictly by the research group, surveyed air travelers in more than 38 criteria related to customer satisfaction (including check-in, arrivals and transfers) for more than 190 airports.

And while airports may be generally reviled, there are some standouts, commended by passengers for their cleanliness, efficiency, design and amenities. And with extras that include free massage chairs, internet, a cinema, waterfalls, and, in one truly exceptional case, a butterfly garden, who can blame them?

Check out a quick list of the world's top five airports -- and the reasons travelers love them so much -- and vote for the ones you'd most like to get stuck in (if you were to get stuck!) below:

Sue Lowden for U.S. Senate (Nev): new IRS agents in health care law

Friends,

We must keep up the fight to stop government run health care.

The Obama/Reid government run health care law uses our tax dollars to pay for abortions, will cause health care premiums to rise by as much as 13% according to the Congressional Budget Office, limit employers' ability to create new jobs, and provides the IRS $10 billion for 16,000 new IRS agents!

That's right. Harry Reid who thinks our economy is experiencing "robust growth" and thinks it's "really good" when "only 36,000 people" lose their jobs in America has just helped create a larger more intrusive IRS!

It's past time for the Democrats to lose their majority and for Harry Reid to lose his job! Follow this link to kick Harry Reid out of office.

On March 31st our campaign to kick Harry Reid out of office faces a critical deadline. The Federal Election Committee's (FEC) first quarter fundraising deadline is this Wednesday and I need your help to show that we have the resources to take on Harry Reid's $25 million dollar war chest and his Washington interest groups.

If elected to office, a top priority will be to repeal Harry Reid's taxpayer funding of abortion and his government take over of health care.

Please join our campaign to end Harry Reid's reign by making an immediate contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more.

Make no mistake; Reid and Obama's big government health care bureaucracy is going to use our tax dollars for abortions. The charade of President Obama signing an executive order behind closed doors will not stop the largest expansion of abortion in America in decades. If elected to the U.S. Senate, I will help lead the fight against using our tax dollars to pay for abortions.

Harry Reid's health care bill is already making it more difficult for employers to create new jobs. An American manufacturer has already announced that big government health care is going to cost them an additional $100 million in the first year.

The Democrats in Congress ignored the American people when we said we don't want their big government health care and they are ignoring us when we say that creating jobs and getting our economy going again should be the top priority.

As a state Senator and businesswoman, I have balanced budgets, made the tough decisions, and helped create thousands of jobs. Out-of-touch, Harry Reid has never worked in the private sector and he's never created a private sector job.

Our campaign to kick Harry Reid out of office is making strong gains. If the election were held today, I would defeat Harry Reid by 13 points, 52% to 39%! But Election Day is months away and there is still plenty of time for Reid and his Washington allies to make good on their promise to "vaporize" me.

Fight back against Harry Reid and his Washington special interests with an immediate contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more now.

With the critical FEC fundraising deadline on March 31st, we need your support urgently to show we have the resources to stand against his money machine. Harry Reid has spent his career doing favors for the Washington lobbyists, and now that he needs them to repay those favors, they are filling his campaign account with mountains of money.

Obama has already made two trips to Nevada to try and rescue the career of the man most responsible for forcing government run health care on us and he needs Harry Reid to continue implementing his far-left agenda.

I know that together we will stand and fight against their continuing efforts for a larger more intrusive government.

Thank you for your patriotism and continued support of the cause of freedom.

Sincerely,

Sue Lowden

P.S. Harry Reid's campaign team, the media, and the National Democrat Party will go through our 1st Quarter FEC report with a fine-toothed comb, looking for any signs of weakness they can use against us. This report is due on Wednesday, so I'm asking you for immediate action. Can I count on you to rush one urgent gift of $50, $100, $250 to my campaign? I would not ask if this report wasn't so critically important to defeating Harry Reid this November. Please let me hear from you soon! Thanks again for everything. -- Sue

In the 15 months since Chicago-based Tribune Co. filed for bankruptcy, law firms and other professionals have billed the media conglomerate $138 million, or about one-quarter of the company's cash flow last year. E&P: Top lawyers in the case are billing at rates of $925 to $955 an hour, just below the $1,000 an hour rate that U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Carey, overseeing the case, suggested would try his patience.

MRC Alert: CNN Convicts Palin and Tea Partiers of 'Inciting Violence' and Stoking Racism

Tracking Liberal Media Bias Since 1996
Monday March 29, 2010 @ 09:58 AM EDT

1. CNN Convicts Palin and Tea Partiers of 'Inciting Violence' and Stoking Racism
CNN put “INCITING VIOLENCE?” on screen under video of Sarah Palin earlier in the day Saturday in Searchlight, Nevada, as anchor Don Lemon announced: "Sarah Palin takes on one of the highest ranking Democrats right in his own backyard, all while causing another uproar by urging tea parties to quote 'reload.' And the question is, are comments like that inciting violence and name-calling over the health care bill and the like?" In the subsequent segment, titled “DANGEROUS RHETORIC: When heated words incite threats & violence,” CNN’s panel agreed Obama’s political opponents are inciting violence and are motivated by racism

2. ABC Uses Palin Campaigning for McCain to Take Gratuitous Shot at Her 2008 'Lost Footing'
Last week when President Barack Obama cited an impossible “three thousand percent” price reduction and referred to a woman who “upped her deductible...to the minimum,” ABC's World News didn't utter a syllable about it, but in a Friday story on Sarah Palin headlining a John McCain campaign event in Arizona, ABC's David Wright found it somehow newsworthy to remind viewers Palin made verbal miscues in 2008 -- as if those are what doomed McCain's presidential campaign. Noting that McCain plucked Palin “pretty much out of obscurity in the frozen tundra,” but now she “has all but eclipsed” McCain in national popularity, Wright played a soundbite of Time's Mark Halperin observing “John McCain needs her now to come back and help him just as he helped her by raising her from obscurity.” Wright gratuitously asserted: “Never mind that at key moments in the '08 campaign Palin lost her footing.” Viewers then saw a clip of Palin on the CBS Evening News in 2008: “Our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of.”

3. Jack Cafferty Just Can't Get Over His Anti-Palin Obsession
CNN commentator Jack Cafferty predictably revisited his Palin Derangement Syndrome on Friday's Situation Room, hours after the former Alaska governor made a campaign appearance for Senator John McCain for his re-election bid. Cafferty used the "Caribou Barbie" label often used by the left, and blamed Palin for polarizing the American people. The CNN personality, who devoted 35% of his "Cafferty File" segments over a month period in 2008 to bashing the former Republican vice presidential candidate, couldn't resist devoting his 5 pm Eastern commentary to Palin's Friday appearance with McCain in Arizona. After getting out of the way the obligatory references to her Fox News gig and her upcoming television series on TLC, Cafferty unleashed hell upon his nemesis on the right, pointing to her as the sole cause for the senator's failed presidential bid, and even omitted that she is the former governor of the 49th state.

4. ABC's David Wright Warns: Sarah Palin's 'Tactics' 'May Backfire,' Skips Attack on Republican's Office
Good Morning America's David Wright on Friday ominously warned that Sarah Palin's "tactics," which include encouraging conservatives to politically "reload" and putting cross-hairs over Democrats she wishes to see defeated, "may backfire." Wright vaguely explained that this was "after several congressmen received death threats this week."

5. David Shuster Insists Dems Hate Hitler Analogies -- But Chris Matthews Didn't In 2005 When Bob Byrd Did It
On Monday, MSNBC host David Shuster insisted Democrats would never stoop to Nazi analogies: "[W]henever we asked Democratic leaders, 'Look, do you support using a Hitler moustache on a poster of George W. Bush?’ Every single time, they said ‘Absolutely not, we do not approve of that. We want, of course, we want people to protest. But not like that.'"

6. Colby King Charges Tea Partiers Are Descendants of George Wallace and David Duke
“Today's Tea Party adherents are George Wallace legacies,” the Washington Post’s Colby King charged in his weekly Saturday column, maintaining “they have been culturally conditioned to believe they are entitled to do whatever they want, and to whomever they want, because they are the ‘real Americans,’ while all who don't think or look like them are not” and so, “without folks like them, there would be no Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity or Pat Buchanan.” King, the Post's deputy editorial page editor from 2000 to 2007 who in 2003 won the Pulitzer Prize for “distinguished commentary,” began the column, “In the faces of Tea Party shouters, images of hate and history,” by equating the Tea Party activists with the racist segregationists of the 1950s: "The angry faces at Tea Party rallies are eerily familiar. They resemble faces of protesters lining the street at the University of Alabama in 1956."

7. Crude Maher Urges Democrats to Treat Republicans as Tiger Woods Did His Conquests
In the midst of liberals condemning the tone of anti-Obama conservatives, Bill Maher on Friday pointed to a vulgar and sexually-explicit text message Tiger Woods reportedly sent, which promised aggressive sexual behavior, as representing the attitude Democrats should adopt from the “lying bullies of the right.” Maher quoted from Woods: “I want to treat you rough, throw you around, spank and slap you and make you sore....I'm going to tell you to shut the f**k up while I slap your face and pull your hair for making noise.” Maher declared that “perfectly represents the attitude the Democrats should now have in their dealings with the Republican Party.”

8. ABC's Environmental Alarmist Sam Champion Hypes 'Earth Hour,' Skipped ClimateGate
Good Morning America's weatherman and resident environmental alarmist Sam Champion on Friday promoted Earth Hour 2010, a call for people to sit in the dark at 8:30pm local time on Saturday and reflect on global warming. Champion enthused, "So, tomorrow night at 8:30, you can turn your lights off and join people around the world as they say 'Hey, we simply care and that climate change is something we want to make a statement about.'"

9. CBS's Rodriguez: Dems 'Rescued' ObamaCare From 'Death's Door'
Introducing a report on passage of the ObamaCare reconciliation bill on Friday's CBS Early Show, co-host Maggie Rodriguez referred to a couple upcoming rescue stories on the show and cheerfully remarked: "And speaking of rescues, the Democrats have rescued health care reform, once on death's door, after putting the final touches, finally, on the sweeping legislation yesterday." At the top of the show, co-host Harry Smith proclaimed: "Health care reform is a done deal after Democrats in Congress make final changes to the historic legislation." In the later report by correspondent Nancy Cordes, an on-screen headline read: "Done Deal; Obama Health Care Plan Gets Final Approval From Congress."
