Westminster Vol. Fire Dept. Treasurer Caroline Babylon leads a number of children in a 'stop, drop, and roll' demonstration for the safety and fire prevention program at the Third Annual KIDZPO at Grace Lutheran Church Sat March 25, 2017 21 Carroll St Westminster MD.

Westminster Police Auxiliary members Ken Carlisle and Larry Myers, and WFD Chaplain Kevin Dayhoff assisted, but did not demonstrate the dropping and rolling portion of the demonstration. Just saying. But I am betting that the WFD Secretary and Fire Prevention Chair Jamie Petry or WFD Fundraising Chair Brenda Roper would have demonstrated the drop and roll well.

The scammers are at it again. We are getting reports of a man named John calling from 443-345-8283. He says he is with the "foundation" and asked for donations to the fire service in Harford County.

When asked questions he abruptly hangs up.

No fire or EMS company/dept in Harford County solicits donations by telephone. Not one.

Please do not fall prey to this guy or anyone else who may try a scam like this.

Share this info with those who aren't on social media, especially the older population.

The latest of the all-too-frequent clumsy error messages folks get on their computers from Microsoft, Google, Adobe, et al, is one that reads: “Sorry, Backup and Sync needs to quit.” 7:30 p.m. EST 16Mar2017

LOL – What the What. Curious, I did search on “Sorry, Backup and Sync needs to quit,” and tech writer, Corbin Davenport, writing for the website, Android Police,” seems to have just unraveled the mystery, minutes ago… http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/03/16/google-drive-windows-self-updating-backup-sync-breaking-process/

“Did you think Google's intentional downgrade OTA for the Nexus 6 from yesterday was bad? Google appears to be on a mission to break as many products as possible, and next up is the Google Drive client for Windows.

“If you've ever used Google Drive (or similar cloud services), you'll know that there is a Windows client that syncs all your Drive files locally to your computer. It hasn't received much attention over the years, and is rather buggy. As for the good news - Google seems to be working on an updated version. The bad news is that an unfinished and broken build is being pushed live.”

I will add, that to say that it is “rather buggy,” is an understatement.

Anyway, read much more here. Mr. Davenport explains it well. Thank you.

The GFWC Woman's Club of Westminster, along with other civic organizations, community leaders and businesses, annually promote literacy and encourage reading in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

According to Jackie Hering, education department chairperson of the Woman's Club of Westminster, and chair of the event, "It's wonderful to see the children's faces light up when you sit down to read to them."

Sunday church service at Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster - the first Sunday in Lent.  www.gracelc.org A welcome and necessary brief break in the never-ending war against hunger, poverty, the intellectually stunted and the artistry disinclined. 4March2017

Pastor Kevin Clementson spoke to us about the expectations of having a life in Christ. In a message that highlights "This is not what I signed-up for," he shared that sometimes in our walk of faith, we are tempted and things do not go as planned. The hope for a perfect life often leads to disappointment.

This reinforces one of my foundation beliefs that our success in life greatly depends on how we respond positively to setbacks and  dissapointment.

EcoPreacher: The Preacher Persisted: Finding Courage in the Pul...: The Rev. Dr. Leah D. Schade I was recently invited to supply preach at a congregation to cover a colleague during his vacatio..

The Rev. Dr. Leah D. Schade

I was recently invited to supply preach at a congregation to cover a colleague during his vacation.  I had been told by several different people that the congregation had a reputation of being a politically progressive church. So I crafted a prophetic sermon that engaged contemporary issues for the assigned lectionary readings for the day.

In the sermon, I never referenced any political party or figure, but clearly named the systemic loss of an ethical and moral center in our country of late.  I also reiterated Moses’ call to follow God’s commandments to turn away from death and embrace life (Deuteronomy 30:15-20).

True to my commitment to include God’s Creation in my preaching where appropriate, I critiqued the ways we have abused this Earth in violation of the command to choose life.  But I ended by pointing out that God is still at work calling people to rise up in defense of the vulnerable and answering the call to justice along with people of other faiths and nonreligious people of good will (you can read my blog post based on the sermon here).

The reactions of the listeners in the days following the sermon revealed a much more politically diverse congregation than I expected.  The pastor told me he had received numerous emails and phone calls from his parishioners – some who had expressed appreciation for the sermon, and some who expressed strong anger at what I had preached.  So the pastor asked if I would be willing to come back to the church to talk about the sermon with anyone who wanted to discuss it further.

I was open to this suggestion for several reasons. Read much more here: http://ecopreacher.blogspot.com/2017/02/the-preacher-persisted-finding-courage.html
