Dr. James H. Overton, Jr., a native of North Carolina, who has had wide experience in both educational and religious work, is the new dean of men at Elon College, having assumed his new duties with the opening of the 1963-64 college year.

Dr. Overton, who was born in eastern North Carolina, received his undergraduate training at the University of North Carolina and then attended the Divinity School of Duke University, where he received his Ph.D. degree.

He has since earned his doctorate at Duke in the field of church history. He comes to the Elon position from Nashville, Tenn., where he has been with the Board of Evangelism of the Methodist Church for the past three years.

He had previously taught at Lambuth College in Jackson, Tenn., had done religious work with students at both Duke University and N. C. State College and has held a number of Methodist pastoral appointments.

In connection with his work in education and religion, Dr. Overton holds memberships in Pi Gamma Mu, honorary social science group; International Society of Theta Pi, honorary ministerial organization: American Society of Church History and National Association of Biblical Instructors.
