BALTIMORE -- For the eighth time in a row, Texas has been voted
the best state for business in Chief Executive magazine's annual survey of
CEOs.
In this year's
survey, Florida moved up from number three last year to number two. North
Carolina ranked third, Virginia was sixth and Georgia came in eighth.
Of the 50 states
ranked, the bottom-placed included New York (49th), Massachusetts (47th), New
Jersey (45th), Connecticut (44th), Pennsylvania (43rd) and Maryland (40th).
California earned the dubious honor of being ranked dead last for the eighth
consecutive year.
Texas won high marks for its
business-friendly tax and regulatory environment. Its workforce quality was
