Appy Time for Learning breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s Sat. morning, Oct. 21, 2017 8 to 10 a.m.

Appy Time for Learning breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s Sat. morning, Oct. 21, 2017 8 to 10 a.m.

Come out this morning to help support Carroll County NAACP member Patricia Mack-Preston’s “Appy Time for Learning” education initiative on Saturday, October 21, 2017 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

$9.00 per person - Children 8 and under - $4.50

At: Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 634 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, MD  21157

Our last Carroll County NAACP meeting September 28, 2019 began with a presentation by Patricia Mack-Preston on “Appy Time for Learning,” A nonprofit 501(C) (3) fund of The Community Foundation of Carroll County.

Patricia began her PowerPoint presentation by explaining that when she retired from teaching in Howard Co. in 2015, she wanted to put into practice Proverbs 16:3: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.”

After she retired, she remained committed to teaching and education. Programmatically “Apply Time for Learning” emphasizes technology.

Appy Time consists of educators, parents, and community members who want to be part of the solution to the academic achievement gap present in today's educational institutions. “By volunteering our time and talents to help children close the learning gap, we are impacting the success of future generations.”

Please bring new or gently used books appropriate for children through second grade (birth through 7 years of age) to the breakfast and help bridge the achievement gap for young children.

Learn more about opportunities to help by checking out their website at Appy Time for Learning, emailing appytime@icloud.com or calling 410-876-4137. For more information on Appy Time, please go to: http://www.appytimeforlearning.com/index.html

“Appy Time for Learning,” A nonprofit 501(C) (3) is a fund of The Community Foundation of Carroll County.

Thank you in advance,

Breakfast at Applebee’s supports Carroll Co NAACP education fund

July 29th fundraising event at the Applebee’s in Westminster supports Carroll County NAACP education fund

Westminster, June 30, 2017 - - Attached please find a flyer of our annual Carroll County NAACP “Continuing Education Grant” fundraiser at Applebee's in Westminster on Saturday, July 29th at 8 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Every year, along with the Pehl Foundation, the Carroll County NAACP gives at least one $1,000 Continuing Education Award to a high achieving student in Carroll County Public Schools planning to go to a trade school, college, or university. The money raised from the Applebee’s event goes directly into the CC NAACP continuing education fund.

Tickets are only $10/person – and children under 12 are $5.00 apiece.

Please mark your calendars now and begin informing your family and friends.

The GPS address is: Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 634 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, MD 21157

I have attended several fundraisers at Applebee’s over the years for a number of different community organizations. It is actually a really unique experience in that the community organization that benefits from the fundraiser actually takes over the restaurant. Essentially every booth is filled with a family that you either know or want to get to know because you share a common interest in supporting an organization that supports the greater community. It’s like a big extended family get together.

Looking forward to seeing you on July 29th, 2017

Good Morning! The Cost of Your Breakfast Just Went Up Tuesday, 22 Apr 2014

Good Morning! The Cost of Your Breakfast Just Went Up Tuesday, 22 Apr 2014

The cost of breakfast is poised to increase as coffee futures surge after a Brazilian drought damaged crops and orange-juice prices climb with Florida’s output heading for a 29-year low.

[...]

To start this year, Brazil, the world’s top coffee and citrus grower, faced the most severe drought in decades. In Florida, the second-biggest orange grower, a gnat-sized insect spread citrus greening, causing fruit to wither and drop early. Prices for bacon, eggs and milk have also climbed, and surging meat and dairy are helping to spur the fastest gain in U.S. consumer food costs since 2011, government data show.

This is nirvana for a breakfast hound like me who likes anything that has to do with "Georgia Ice Cream", "Dixie Ice Cream" - grits, corn meal, pancake & waffle mixes, flours, biscuit & bread mixes, pioneer's porridge and …

It’s a package from our good friends who own Nora Mills Granary Grist Mill and County Store – find them here: http://www.noramill.com/

Don Surber: Maple syrup wars

Don Surber: Maple syrup wars

May 27, 2009

OMG. This has everything except those great pictures of PETA protesters… Perhaps they could do something to the affect of being covered in maple syrup.

Even Sen. Chuck Schumer has gotten involved – only thankfully he is not pictured scantily clad…
_____

PETA: “Stop the Seal Slaughter” and “Buy American: Boycott Canadian Maple Syrup.”

Our moral and intellectual superiors at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are at it again. They want to stop the annual seal harvest — some would say slaughter — way up north by calling for an international boycott of Canadian maple syrup.
[…]

Meanwhile, the Canadian Press reported: Canada’s Governor General, Michaëlle Jean, “gutted a freshly slaughtered seal, pulled out its raw heart, and ate it.”

The PETA press releases are
here for Vermont and there for Maine.

Sen.
Schumer’s story is here.

And the seal heart-eating
Michaëlle Jean story is here.

Now, can I just finish my waffle?
