Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo will speak at McDaniel College Oct. 16, discussing his journey from being a professional football player to becoming a vocal supporter of equal rights and same-sex marriage.

The hour-long moderated question-and-answer session is free and open to the public. It starts at 7 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall, but doors open at 6:45 p.m.

The City of Westminster Common Council voted unanimously Monday to support naming a softball field at Jaycee Park in honor of Mike Ridgell.

Ridgell, 52, was one of the dozen people killed at the Navy Yard shooting Sept. 16. A former Maryland State Trooper, Ridgell was a coach with the Westminster Jaycees girls softball team."
