While doing online research for the novel I'm writing for middle grade readers, ages 8-12, I came across your site which has proved very helpful! In doing research at 2 NARHA-certified therapeutic riding facilities within 15 miles of my area, I have come to realize how much I don't know about therapeutic riding!!
All that I have learned so far, I have been able to use in my novel.
Recently I learned that there are horse shows at the facilities!Haven't had opportunities to interview about this, but today your site showed me aspects I had never even imagined! (The class for disabled riders at Devon, for one. A quadrille, for another). There is already so much material I can't use it all in one book; I'm making a list to topics to include in the sequel---just from the way my novel ends, there is such an obvious opening for a sequel! To me, accuracy is very important,so I'm not making anything up as I write that book. Am proceeding carefully, not using actual names of people or locations, but keeping the overall feel. Each summer the facilities I am familiar with, each have a horse show. I plan to attend both of them, and help in some way if possible, but primarily I want to absorb everything about each event, using the material where possible as I write. I do nothing without permission, including photography, as I want to use the photos as reference for my artwork.I admire the work you do at Thorncroft Equestrian Center!
