Scott Strong for Mount Airy town council campaign profile

Scott Strong for Mount Airy town council campaign profile

March 29, 2010

My name is Scott Strong; I'm 38 years old, and a resident of Mount Airy running for Town Council. We bought our first home here in 2000. I've been married to my lovely wife Kimber for 14 years and have 4 children. All are attending local public elementary and middle schools.

I have earned 3 degrees: Bachelor's, a Master's and an Executive MBA. I have 21 years of business experience working in the private sector as a government contractor supporting all aspects for multiple $100+ million dollar programs. Throughout this entire period of my life, I was able to manage working full-time, get married and start my family. Also over the past 4 years I have been coaching Four County Little League as well as participating as a 501st Legion member volunteering my time to help numerous charities dealing with children.

Friends and acquaintances alike have been urging me for the past few months to step up and address some of the major issues facing Mount Airy today. While my ideas might not ultimately provide total solutions, they do instill within others the creative sparks necessary for coming to mutual agreements which is something I think we need more of between all parties involved: residents, businesses, local/town government and state government. I feel that I can apply the same drive and passion for my personal and professional life to make positive contributions to the town and it's residents if they decide to elect me.

I became interested in running for office because I felt that I could make a difference in shaping policy and managing growth thereby positively benefiting not only the businesses and the town's economy, but also helping to voice the majority of our resident's interests. I moved to Mount Airy because of the things I saw and wanted to share them with my children; therefore, I have a vested interested in our youth and our community's future.

My agenda is straightforward:
• Encouraging Citizens involvement in the planning process
• Investigate Best Options for Planning and Promote Abstract Objectivity
• Managing Growth for In-Fill and Re-development
• Pursue Recreation Center Option
• Evaluate current Town processes
• Support School Modernization

If elected, I believe I can put together processes which support the good things already put into place while injecting creativity and innovation in order to help where there is room for improvement. I plan to be open, honest and transparent with the residents and hope to encourage citizen involvement in the planning process.

Sincerely,
Scott Strong / Candidate for Town Council
