The Ravens will not hold training camp at McDaniel College this summer due to the NFL's ongoing lockout, Ethan Seidel, McDaniel's vice president of administration and finance, said Wednesday.

"Basically, they are not going to be having summer camp up here this summer, simply because at this point the lockout still is in place," Seidel said. "Obviously, they don't even know if they're having anything at all.

"It's just too late to plan on being up here," he said. "That's kind of what we expected."

The loss of the Ravens will have an impact on Westminster overall. Last summer, the Ravens drew more than 112,000 fans to Carroll County to watch practices and collect autographs.

"I think it's a disappointment not just for the college, but the whole Westminster community because there's an economic impact on all kinds of businesses," Seidel said. "We kind of anticipated it."

“Well, it’s a bummer," said Stan Ruchlewicz, administrator for economic development for the City of Westminster. "It’s so disappointing that the Ravens and the fans are not coming to Westminster. ... And in this economy, we were looking forward to that shot in the arm." ...
