Wargotz ON THE AIR. ‘Promises Made’ addresses

C:\Users\OWNER\Desktop\WARGOTZ DOCS\Logo.jpg

www.WargotzForUSSenate.org

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 12, 2010

Wargotz ON THE AIR. ‘Promises Made’ addresses:

Tax Cuts, Government Efficiency and Transparency.

Annapolis, MD Eric Wargotz, an elected member of the Queens Anne’s County Board of Commissioners and a candidate for US Senate from Maryland released the second of the campaign’s, “Eric on the Issues” radio ads, which began airing today on talk radio stations around the state. Wargotz, a physician, is seeking the Republican nomination for the seat currently held by four term incumbent Senator, Barbara Mikulski.

In the spot (click here or visit our web site ) titled, “Promises Made,” Wargotz talks about his 2006 campaign for Commissioner and his commitment to reduce taxes, improve government efficiencies, and increase transparency.

"During my brief time in office, I led the successful fight to reduce the property tax rate, eliminate unnecessary positions, and make government more accessible and more accountable to our constituents," Wargotz said.

In the ad, Wargotz distinguishes himself from his primary opponents, all who lack a proven record. "Campaigns are about talk, governing is about actions. As my track record proves, the promises I made, were promises I kept," he said.

The Commissioner also took on the incumbent's record of deficit spending saying, "Big taxing and even bigger spending liberal policies in Washington are bankrupting our children’s future."

The spot is an addition to series designed to highlight the cornerstones of the campaign and highlight his legislative and executive experience. In the coming weeks, health care, the economy and the environment will also be addressed.

More information can be found on the campaign website at http://www.wargotz.com.

Carroll County MD Commissioners plan to put resident troopers back in budget

Commissioners plan to put resident troopers back in budget

Keeping nine troopers this year would result in $400,000 surplus

By Charles Schelle Posted 5/14/10

— Kevin Dayhoff contributed to this story

http://www.explorecarroll.com/news/4325/troopers/

A discussion this past week about deferring the transition of nine resident Maryland State Police troopers to Sheriff's Office deputies turned into a political debate between Commissioners Julia Gouge and Michael Zimmer.

"You're strongly in favor of the sheriff, but don't mess it up by putting in this other crap," Gouge said to Zimmer during a heated back-and-forth at the commissioners' May 11 meeting.

In total, the county currently contracts 45 resident troopers to help patrol the county, in addition to Sheriff's Office deputies.

A Zimmer-initiated proposal would have moved to transfer nine resident trooper positions into the Sheriff's Office to save $400,000 in fiscal 2012.

But Gouge and Commissioner Dean Minnich gave county staff direction to keep the nine resident troopers in this year's proposed county budget, based on an offer by state police to reduce its contract cost to the county -- an offer that would save $400,000 in the county's proposed fiscal 2011 budget.

Zimmer fought the move, wanting instead to begin this year the phase-out of the troopers and a gradual hiring of additional Sheriff's Office deputies to take their place.

Two work sessions on the issue, on May 11 and May 13, included heated exchanges between Gouge and Zimmer.

The Amazing Race - One husband-and-wife team competed in a 150-mile race across New Zealand, but that wasn't their real adventure.

The night before the race, my husband, Brad, and I are so nervous we can barely talk. Tomorrow, I have to run 21 miles over New Zealand's Southern Alps with two ways out: on foot or by helicopter. Terrified, I go into the bathroom and stifle sobs. What if I get lost, break an ankle, or don't finish after coming this far? We're a relay team, and Brad has to kayak 42 miles. He hasn't kayaked in weeks. What if he drowns? We have two boys. What were we thinking?

The race was Brad's idea, a romantic adventure he'd been pondering for years. He'd often had these plans, but this time he was persistent. The Speight's Coast to Coast, a multisport, two-day adventure race, crosses New Zealand's South Island on a 150-mile course. I'd do the mountain run and he'd kayak, with additional running and cycling for us both. Brad knew that New Zealand was a life-list destination for me, and he said it could be the honeymoon we never had, a fact I ribbed him about endlessly. Just like a honeymoon ... except for the 21-mile mountain run.

As Shea's family traveled to Dover, Del., on Wednesday morning to receive his body, his friends were trying to comprehend just how much the community has lost.

Reporter Accuses Dowd of - What Else?- Blind Date Profiling

helena-large.jpg Former Politico scribe Helena Andrews is calling the date that NYT columnist Maureen Dowd set her up on with Obama aide Reggie Love "racial profiling." Andrews writes about it in the latest issue of Marie Claire.

How dare Dowd assume she wants to date a black man?

A Web site called The Nytpicker has the scoop.

An excerpt
"I've got a guy for you," Dowd told Andrews. "He's so hot, it's perfect." Read the rest here: http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlDC/online_media/reporter_accuses_dowd_of_what_else_blind_date_profiling__161520.asp

The Nytpicker says:

Thursday, May 13, 2010

In the spring of 2008, NYT columnist Maureen Dowd fixed up Helena Andrews, a black former NYT assistant, on a blind date with Obama aide Reggie Love.

Two years later, the woman is now accusing Dowd of "racial profiling" in arranging the unsuccessful date -- to which Love showed up an hour late and in his gym clothes. Read the rest here: http://www.nytpick.com/2010/05/black-reporter-accuses-maureen-dowd-of.html

Meanwhile Ms. Andrews writes in "Marie Clair":

Dating Dilemma: Racial Profiling

One African-American woman pleads not to be set up on a blind date with the only black professional you know.

"I've got a guy for you. He's so hot, it's perfect." It was the spring of '08 when Maureen Dowd, the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist, decided to take it upon herself to find me a man — specifically, Reggie Love, Barack Obama's "body guy" (read: personal aide). Standing outside the auditorium in Philadelphia where Obama the candidate had just given his loaded race speech, I thought to myself, How could a woman I'd helped with a computer problem once as an assistant at the Times spot the man for me? "Don't be silly," she said, when I demurred. "My assistant will set it up."

I was 27 and working as the only black reporter at Politico.com when a black man was running for president. The issue of race in America had hit a fever pitch, and suddenly everyone seemed determined to cast me as Michelle redux — and all that was missing was my very own Barack. [...]

... I'm not saying that my colleagues and neighbors should have set me up with white friends, necessarily. I was just disappointed that, despite all my more awesome qualities, the main thing they all saw was my skin.

Recently, my mother met a black man at Ikea, gave him my card, and then yelled at me when I raised the obvious psycho-killer issues. She said he was nice, a lawyer. Like Maureen, Mom was playing into the kind of stereotypes I was trying to dodge. But I realized that both women just wanted to see me happy. And, even though I was grateful Ikea guy never called, I know that the more weird setups I endure, the better my chances of getting to Mr. Right, whatever his race.

Helena Andrews's memoir, Bitch Is the New Black (HarperCollins), is out this month. She writes a weekly column for Slate's TheRoot.com.

Besides - I always hated being set-up by friends for blind dates during the many years I was single... I liked being single at the time...

Daily Caller: RNC thinks they can pick up 130 House seats

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — Talk about optimism.

House Republican leader John Boehner recently said the GOP could pick up 100 seats this November. Now, the Republican National Committee’s political director says the party has its eye on 130.

MRC Alert: NBC Astonished Poll Finds Most Support Arizona Law and Anti-Terror Profiling; Skip GOP Surge

Tracking Liberal Media Bias Since 1996
Thursday May 13, 2010 @ 09:22 AM EDT

1. NBC Astonished Poll Finds Most Support Arizona Law and Anti-Terror Profiling; Skip GOP Surge
NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd seemed astonished by how a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll confirmed solid agreement with Arizona's immigration enforcement law – “a whopping 64 percent support the law,” Todd marveled, “and we read them the law verbatim exactly as it's been written” and still, he repeated, “64 percent approve of it.” NBC also treated as surprising the majority backing for racial profiling to prevent terrorism, while Todd didn't mention what NBC's polling partner, the Wall Street Journal, found most newsworthy. Lead of the WSJ.com post: "Republicans have solidified support among voters who had drifted from the party in recent elections, putting the GOP in position for a strong comeback in November's elections."

2. Lead Prosecutor Chris Matthews Pins Blame for Oil Spill on Dick Cheney
Chris Matthews simply can't get Dick Cheney out of his mind. On Tuesday's Hardball, the MSNBC host once again attempted to pin the blame of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico on the former vice president, as he sinisterly questioned "What role did Dick Cheney play in all of this?" Matthews, going after one of his favorite punching bags, brought on Democratic Congressman John Garamendi and an attorney suing BP, Mike Papantonio, to prosecute his case as he accused Cheney and Halliburton of weakening regulations, which in turn led to the oil spill. Matthews even went as far to liken government in the Bush/Cheney years as reminiscent of "a third world banana republic."

3. On NBC, Vieira Sputters at Laura Ingraham's Charge That Kagan Was 'Anti-Military'
NBC’s Today offered a conservative counterpoint on the Elena Kagan nomination on Wednesday: conservative radio talker and author Laura Ingraham. Co-host Meredith Vieira suggested Republicans were hypocrites to suggest Kagan was inexperienced: "The top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, has said that her lack of experience to him is troubling. Yet when Harriet Miers was put up for consideration by President Bush five years ago he had no problem with the fact she had never served as a judge. So are Republicans not satisfied with these nominees, their lack of judicial experience only when they're not a Republican nominee?"

4. Under Painting of Lincoln Peering Down at Obama, USA Today Explores Obama's Underappreciated 'Historic' Greatness
“Will doing 'big things' wind up costing Obama?” a Wednesday USA Today front page article worried, accompanied by a photo of contemplative President Barack Obama with Abraham Lincoln in a painting peering down at him. The caption: “History book bound?” The subhead for the story by Susan Page and Mimi Hall: “Voters' anxiety clouds his historic successes.” The effusive lead presumed Obama deserves credit for great achievements the public has been slow to recognize and the duo later declared: “Historians call Obama's record incomparable.” And they meant that as a glowing positive.

5. Network Double Standard: Elena Kagan vs. Samuel Alito
In the 36 hours after President Bush nominated Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court in 2005, network reporters explicitly labeled him "conservative" ten times in their morning and evening newscasts. Over the same period this time, Obama nominee Elena Kagan has been called "liberal" just once, on CBS.

6. CBS's Rodriguez Urges John Kerry to Denounce Offshore Oil Drilling
In an interview with Senator John Kerry on Wednesday's CBS Early Show on the Gulf Coast oil spill, co-host Maggie Rodriguez hit from the left on new energy legislation proposed by the Massachusetts Democrat: "correct me if I'm wrong, your legislation calls for expanding offshore drilling at a time when polls show most Americans no longer support it. Why do you believe it's necessary to do that?" Kerry responded by pointing out that his bill would "actually restrict the current plan of the President" to expand offshore drilling. Rodriguez pressed further: "Are you saying it does not call for expanded offshore drilling?"

7. CBS Review of Russell Crowe Film: 'Robin Hood Meets Che Guevara'
On CBS's Sunday Morning, correspondent Dean Reynolds described the latest adaptation of the Robin Hood legend by director Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe: "And so here is an evil King John, squeezing his subjects for more taxes....And here is Robin. Not as a thief, but as a revolutionary figure trying to limit the King's power. Robin Hood meets Che Guevara." Reynolds further explained the plot of the new film: "This Robin joins the fight to get the English king to sign the Magna Carta in the year 1215, the document establishing the first rights on which modern democracies are based."
