News from The Hill:

Battle over unemployment benefits will consume start of 2014

By Alexander Bolton

Senate Democratic leaders feel cautiously optimistic they have the 60 votes they need to advance unemployment benefits legislation on Monday, but that marks only the start of the congressional battle.
Even if the legislation passes the Senate, it faces an uphill road in the House. Advocates for extended benefits say the fight could play out between the chambers for weeks.

Stars and Stripes Daily Headlines: After decade of war, troops still struggling to find work and other news

[img]After decade of war, troops still struggling to find work
This is what the end of a decade of war looked like in Oklahoma a few weeks ago: ex-soldiers in cheap new business suits; human resources managers with salesman smiles and stacks of glossy fliers; a former Marine speaking to a television news crew about the “tough times” and “nightmares” he has had since coming home.

At least 58 people were reported killed in Afghanistan on Saturday. In one operation led by Afghan forces, 51 Taliban fighters and three Afghan troops were killed.

[img]US, Afghanistan OK detention center transfer
The U.S. has reached an agreement with the Afghanistan government to transfer the Parwan Detention Facility to Afghan control, the Pentagon said Saturday, two weeks after negotiations broke down over whether the U.S. would have the power to block the release of some detainees.

[img]US aids Honduran police despite death squad fears
The U.S. State Department, which spends millions of taxpayer dollars a year on the Honduran National Police, has assured Congress that money only goes to specially vetted and trained units that don't operate under the direct supervision of a police chief once accused of extrajudicial killings and "social cleansing."

Gateway Pundit: Obama Sends 1,400 Manufacturing Jobs & Sensitive Technology to Brazil

Yesterday, after a conflict-fraught deliberation process, the Obama Administration awarded the Light Air Support (LAS) contract to Brazilian-based Embraer over Beechcraft; a Wichita Kansas based company with a long history of  supplying the U.S. military with aircraft.  Had Beechcraft been granted the  contract, the company expected  to add or sustain 1,400 jobs in the U.S.  The Embraer plane, on the  other hand, will be primarily built in Brazil, with only  about 50 assembly jobs in the U.S.... Breaking: Obama Sends 1,400 Manufacturing Jobs & Sensitive Technology to Brazil

White House rushes to define Keystone message ahead of GOP - The Hill's E2-Wire

White House rushes to define Keystone message ahead of GOP - The Hill's E2-Wire:

By Andrew Restuccia and Ben Geman - 01/22/12

The White House is working to prevent President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline from becoming a political liability in an election year that will be dominated by jobs and the economy.

White House and campaign officials are emphasizing Obama's energy record in broad strokes -- highlighting steps the administration has taken to encourage oil and gas development and investments in clean energy. Those steps, the officials say, create far more jobs than approval of Keystone would have.

The decision Wednesday to deny TransCanada’s Keystone permit has further united Republicans around a common message: Obama is a job killer." ... http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/e2-wire/205655-white-house-rushes-to-define-keystone-message-ahead-of-gop

LEO SHANE III - Stars and Stripes: Where veterans are finding jobs

Where veterans are finding jobs

Stars and Stripes

Published: November 8, 2011

WASHINGTON — First, the bad news: More than 850,000 veterans are unemployed, and more than a quarter of them are young veterans.

But here’s the good news: More than 1.7 million recently separated veterans and 8.6 million other former servicemembers are collecting paychecks in the civilian workforce. So it can be done, even with the depressed (and depressing) job market.

Hire veterans, Panetta urges business execs

Published: November 8, 2011

WASHINGTON – U.S. troops have sacrificed for their country, and now it’s time for the country to give a little back as troops leave the military – not handouts, but job opportunities, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Monday at a forum with business executives.

Panetta met in New York with CEOs of major corporations including Goldman Sachs and Bank of America, as well as nonprofit and civic leaders.

Several factors are converging to put the squeeze on veterans, he said. The military is set to shrink in the face of wars that are ending and a looming Pentagon budget crunch. Meanwhile, a depressed civilian job market means 11 percent of returning veterans can’t find jobs, Panetta said. And twice that percentage of vets younger than 24 are unemployed.

Hire a Vet to Honor Veterans Day, Officials Say

By Donna Miles  American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2011 – One of the best ways Americans can honor the nation’s veterans this Veterans Day is by giving them a job, three senior government officials told reporters today.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki, Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis and U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen G. Mills praised initiatives under way to support returning combat veterans, including those President Barack Obama announced yesterday.

[…]

Shinseki noted that 850,000 veterans are unemployed. For veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, the unemployment rate is 12.1 percent -- 3 percent above the national average, he said.

Interesting Stats That Explain A Lot

Interesting Stats That Explain A Lot

 Check this set of statistics!!

The percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked in the  private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet.

 Here are the percentages.

 T. Roosevelt.................. 38%

 Taft............................... 40%

 Wilson .......................... 52%

 Harding......................... 49%

 Coolidge....................... 48%

 Hoover .........................42%

 F. Roosevelt..................50%

 Truman......................... 50%

 Johnson........................ 47%

 Nixon............................ 53%

 Ford............................. 42%

 Carter.......................... 32%

 Reagan..........................86%

 GH Bush....................... 51%

 Clinton .........................39%

 GW Bush...................... 55%

And the winner is: Obama...................08% ****

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration: only 8% of them have ever worked in a job not supported by tax money!

 That's right!

Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their
business?

They know what's best for GM, Chrysler, Wall Street, and you and me?

How can the president of our nation, the nation with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one?

Or about jobs when he has never really had one?

And when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers who have spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit
jobs - or as "community organizers.

 ** **
Pass this on! We'll NEVER see these facts in the main stream media.

Kevin Dayhoff - The Tentacle: Tomorrow evening President Barack Obama will lay out his job creation proposals

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Without a Clue
Kevin E. Dayhoff
Tomorrow evening President Barack Obama will lay out his job creation proposals in a campaign address to a joint session of Congress. The president previewed his plans Monday in a Labor Day speech in Detroit.

In short, the president said his plan would be to hold the Republican Party accountable if conservatives do not support his plan. The plan? Oh, nevermind. What plan? There is no plan except to shift the blame to the Republicans for the abysmal jobs situation across America. Yup, that’s the plan.

Just move along, people. Nothing to see here.

Less Than Half Of Stimulus Jobs Went To Unemployed, Study Finds - By Megan Poinski

Less Than Half Of Stimulus Jobs Went To Unemployed, Study Finds - By Megan Poinski

Only about 43% of all jobs created by projects funded by the $787 billion federal stimulus billwent to people who were unemployed, according to a new study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.
The rest of the jobs, according to the study, went to people who were already employed elsewhere, were just out of college, or were not part of the labor force. Job-switchers got about 47% of all of the jobs created by the stimulus package, the study states.

[...]

Jones said this shows that the stimulus funds may have targeted some of the wrong kinds of projects. While billions of dollars went to "green" projects, for example, many of the people who can do that kind of work tend not to have problems finding jobs. Meanwhile, people who do not have college educations may have had fewer opportunities to find a stimulus-funded job they qualified for.

Gov. Martin O'Malley says creating jobs is his top priority.

He proclaims the goal with the fervor of a religious zealot. "Maryland will lead the country, not only economically, but morally," he said during an August visit to Fisher BioServices in Wedgewood Business Park.

So far he has tried to achieve this vision by expanding government. He supported increases to the sales tax, corporate income tax and income tax in 2007. And he champions taxpayer subsidies to favored industries, including biotechnology. He also supports subsidies for health care coverage for small business and tax credits for hiring workers -- two reforms that failed miserably to achieve either of their goals.

While the unemployment rate in Maryland is lower than in the rest of the nation, O'Malley cannot take credit for it. New census data show the U.S. government shoveled $34 billion to contractors over the last fiscal year, a $9 billion increase from the previous year. And the state's myriad federal compounds have been hiring at a robust clip, according to national employment data. O'Malley's administration had nothing to do with either of those actions.

To create jobs, he should listen to people who run businesses... http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/opinion/display_columnist.htm?StoryID=110202&ref=nf
