Will Glyndon Mail Service End in Three Weeks?

"The neighborhood has been in an enormous state of panic," says a community leader. Residents are set to meet with U.S. Postal Service officials tonight.

January 9, 2011 By Marc Shapiro

The future of mail service for many Glyndon residents is uncertain with general mail delivery to the town’s post office due to stop Jan. 30. Most Glyndon residents receive their mail at the post office rather than through home delivery.

“The neighborhood has been in an enormous state of panic as to what is going to happen,” said Kathy Ziese, president of Historic Glyndon, Inc.

A U.S. Postal Service employee told Glyndon residents that general delivery service at the town's post office would not stop, but residents spoke of a myriad of problems with mail service. By Marc Shapiro http://reisterstown.patch.com/articles/glyndon-general-mail-delivery-to-stay-put#c

Bryan Sears - Towson Patch: Councilman Oliver's State Job Raises Questions

Councilman Oliver's State Job Raises Questions

&nbps;0 Comments
For the past nine months Baltimore County Councilman Ken Oliver has held a paid, full-time contract position with a state government agency, a job that appears to run afoul of a County Charter rule prohibiting such employment.
Oliver, a Randallstown Democrat, was hired as a finance specialist by the state Department of Business and Economic Development in February, just two months into his third four-year term on the council.
The County Charter prohibits county council members from working for state agencies during their terms in office...

Baltimore Sun rips off Patch.com story on KO Public Affairs astroturfing?

Since then, WBAL.com (and WBAL radio) along with various blogs (including Inside Charm City) reported on the story by Bryan Sears and gave credit to him for the scoop.
On Monday, Baltimore Sun reporter Julie Scharper even gave credit to Patch for the story in a tweet on her personal Twitter account:
Great reporting from @TowsonPatch about faux grass roots activism for speed cameras.
Tonight, approximately 48 hours after the original story broke, a story on BaltimoreSun.com by Raven Hill went live. This article has no mention of Patch as the original news source or Sears as the reporter who did all the initial legwork to break this story... http://insidecharmcity.com/2011/02/08/baltimore-sun-rips-off-patch-com-story-on-ko-public-affairs-astroturfing/

Bryan Sears - Lutherville Patch: Speed cameras continue to make news in Baltimore County

Lutherville-Timonium PatchDAILY NEWSLETTER

1. County announces is has decided to exercise a one-year option for speed cameras even as the council is going to vote tomorrow to expand the program. This means it will be at least a year before the county would rebid. ACS has already received 81 cents of every dollar the county has collected in speed camera citations.  http://patch.com/A-dQ2T

2. Speed Camera Support: Grassroots or Astroturf?  A Towson-based grassroots effort to win council support has a powerful friend not found on its Facebook page: ACS State and Local Solutions, the company that holds the county’s speed camera contract and stands to financially benefit from the pending legislation.  http://patch.com/A-dQ0y

Police Chief Says Public Has a Need for Speed ... Cameras

Audio: Chief Jim Johnson discusses speed cameras during his confirmation hearing earlier this month.

The idea to remove the 15 unit cap on speed cameras in the county was a mere twinkle in Councilman Tom Quirks eye two weeks ago, when Police Chief Jim Johnson appeared before the County Council for his confirmation hearing.
Johnson, in response to Quirk's question about the effectiveness of speed cameras, told the council the program has been very successful... http://catonsville.patch.com/articles/police-chief-says-public-has-a-need-for-speed-cameras#c

Poll on speed cameras commissioned by Baltimore-based KO Public Relations
Joe Seehusen, co-chair of the county chapter of Americans for Prosperity, said there is no evidence speed cameras "are doing any good for the community."
Kevin Kamenetz, shown here taking the oath of office on Dec 6, his family beside him, is working to close down his law office but may still have to represent some clients with civil cases, according to a spokesman.
County Executive Kevin Kamenetz announced Tuesday the hiring of Yolanda Winkler to lead the county's lobbying efforts in Annapolis.
