To paraphrase the old proverb, one person's trash is another person's treasure.

Or art, as the case may be.

You'll often see artists who work with "found objects" walking along with their eyes down, constantly scanning the ground for good stuff. If you're startled by a pair of wiggling feet sticking out of a construction dumpster, there's a good chance they belong to an artist who just couldn't resist the bits of molding, fixtures, cornices, plaster, decorative metal and more that just might find their way into the next creation.

Those feet could belong to any of the fourteen artists showing their work in "Rejected to Perfected: Fine Art from Recyclables" currently in the Tevis Gallery at the Carroll Arts Center. They have found uses for things most of us would call useless.

[…]

If you look really hard, you might just find a kitchen sink in one of Kevin Dayhoff's 3-D works. Everything else is certainly there. "Clock Radio," made from found objects and scraps of this and that, is a literal take on its name. An old light bulb, clock and transistor radio are juxtaposed at angles, its black cases contrasted with swaths of metal bands painted white and gold.
