LondonRiots100x100
Writer To BBC Interviewer: 'Stop Accusing Me Of Being A Rioter' (Yahoo! News / The Cutline)
The British media has fielded plenty of criticism over its coverage of the U.K. riots -- in part, for siding with police in their clashes with London youth, and for not telling the latter's side of the story.AllTwitter: London rioters who stole goods from local businesses actually took to Twitter to boast about their newly acquired loot -- and London police aren't wasting any time rooting them out and slapping them with handcuffs. Yahoo! News / The Cutline: If the London riots were largely fueled by BlackBerry Messenger, the massive clean-up effort in their wake has gained traction on Twitter. SocialTimes: Here are five sample tweets that together paint a well-rounded picture of the London rioting crisis. SocialTimes: We've compiled a list of some of the most shocking and popular YouTube videos of the riots in the United Kingdom. AdAge: Levi's first global advertising has been public for just a few hours and already the brand is learning the importance of reacting quickly to local events -- in this case, the London riots.
The 'Situational Stylebook': AP Creates A Reference Guide For The Upcoming Sept. 11 Anniversary (Nieman Journalism Lab)
This September will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. It's an occasion that will be commemorated, both on the day itself and, in many cases, in the weeks leading up to it, with journalistic coverage of the events and their aftermath. To assist its members as they create that coverage, The Associated Press just released a style and reference guide whose content is dedicated to 9/11.

Nielsen Ratings Tool Designed To Compare TV, Web (Adweek)
Measurement company Nielsen has long offered the industry standard for TV ratings, but can it do the same for the Web?
Media Death March: Please, Tribune Co., Don't Do This (Wired / Epicenter)
I've been authorized by a small but committed group of technology journalists who have watched this space closely -- and who believe in newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and their shared future -- to deliver this simple message to media companies everywhere. For the love of God, please stop trying to make your own tablets. Tribune Co. -- owner of the Chicago Tribune, the Baltimore Sun, the Los Angeles Times, and several other newspapers and television stations -- is reportedly the latest media giant to be seduced by the sweet siren harmonies of multitouch gestures and brushed aluminum. Adweek: With a slew of numbers they put out last week, publishers showed that there is at least some money to be made on tablet devices.
Disney Earnings Are Strong, But Interactive Lags (paidContent)
Disney may be dedicated to turning around its interactive media group, but the numbers released by the company Tuesday show that it has a ways to go.

Who Earns What: TV's Biggest Salaries (TV Guide)
A lot of people think TV is better than movies these days. For many actors, it certainly pays better.
Fast Chat: CNN President Ken Jautz (Adweek)
Since taking over as president of U.S. operations at CNN last September, Ken Jautz has been struggling to jazz up what had become a snoozing network -- at least by the clamorous standards of the cable news universe -- with high-profile hires like Erin Burnett, poached from MSNBC in April to fill a 7 p.m. slot. B&C: Tony Maddox, executive vice president and managing director of CNN International, spoke with B&C's contributing editor George Winslow about how the network is handling so many big, challenging stories.
Phone-Hacking Scoopster Nick Davies May Join Guardian's Planned U.S. Operation (Yahoo! News / The Cutline)
When not tirelessly chronicling the ongoing British phone-hacking saga, The Guardian has been lining up journalists to staff the U.S.-based website that the U.K. broadsheet plans to have up and running sometime this fall. NYT: When Rupert Murdoch sat down with his board Tuesday for the first time since a phone-hacking scandal overseas plunged his company into turmoil, he was surrounded by a lot of familiar, friendly faces.

Class-Action Suit Filed Against Apple And Five Publishers Over eBook Pricing (eBookNewser)
Consumer rights firm Hagens Berman filed a class action suit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Apple and five of the "big six" publishers. CNET / Digital Media: Apple and a group of book publishers were accused in a lawsuit of illegally fixing e-book prices to "boost profits and force e-book rival Amazon to abandon its pro-consumer discount pricing."
Former CNN Contributor Amy Holmes Joins Glenn Beck's GBTV (TVNewser)
Former CNN political contributor Amy Holmes is joining former Fox news host Glenn Beck's GBTV as news anchor for The Blaze. Business Insider / The Wire: Holmes is a recognizable face to regular viewers of CNN's political coverage. She has also co-hosted The View and made frequent appearances on MSNBC. She also marks Beck's first big(ish) name hire outside the Fox-based conservative punditry.

BYTE Back: Legendary Tech Brand Revived (minOnline)

Demand Media Acquires IndieClick, RSSGraffiti (FishbowlLA)
Demand Media CEO Richard Rosenblatt is cooking with gas on all fronts these days, in a way that has nothing to do with the step-by-step instructional piece posted on company website eHow.com. AdAge / Digital: Once much-derided content company Demand Media will soon start selling advertising for Village Voice Media and mini-blog syndicate The Awl as part of its $14 million acquisition of ad startup IndieClick Media. TechCrunch: Demand is renewing and expanding its advertising partnership with Google. Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Demand will continue to monetize its properties via AdSense for Content and the DoubleClick Ad Exchange.paidContent: Demand Media released a flurry of news -- including two acquisitions and a new premium ad deal with Google -- amid its mixed Q2 earnings report that shows progress on ad sales and not so much success on reaching profitability, eight months after its initial public offering.
Introducing Facebook Messenger For iPhone And Android (AllFacebook)
Facebook Messenger debuted Tuesday in Apple's App Store, offering iPhone and Android users a unified way to chat in groups with contacts from both the social network and the address books on their devices. Inside Facebook: It allows users to conduct one-on-one or group conversations, send photos, and privately share their location. Messages are delivered via push notifications to those with the app, and SMS, Facebook Chat, or Facebook Messages to those without it. The app heavily incorporates functionality and design from group messaging app Beluga, which Facebook acquired in March, and whose founders headed development. TechCrunch: The service that should be perhaps more worried about Messenger is the still-unlaunched iMessage. Announced by Apple at WWDC in June, iMessage is a new messaging platform that will be a part of the default SMS application in iOS 5. That gives it a huge leg up, obviously. But it's also potentially going to be harder to use than Facebook's new Messenger.
