Voters are surging to the polls in State Senate District 5 and the rest of rural Maryland.
The throng of voters coming to the polls in Carroll County and northern Baltimore County is truly exhilarating.
Please continue whatever your are doing to get all of our family, friends, neighbors and other like-minded voters to the polls - it is working!
Rural Maryland is turning out - and obviously this is a bad sign for the incumbent statewide leadership of Maryland. They are looking at the same numbers and they will redouble their efforts to "knock and drag" people to the polls in low-turnout communities.
To win in Maryland, we can't just be good - we have to be excellent. As we close out the polls on Election Day, I offer the two following observations from the first 7 hours of voting:
1. Do you have an hour or two to spare at a Victory Center: The Republican party victory centers will be making calls all afternoon to ensure that we get the maximum highest turnout. If you want to join in this last-minute "get-out-the-vote" drive, call Chris Cavey at (410) 562-7999 or check on the web for the nearest call center to you at www.mdgop.org/victory.
2. Remind all voters to check their ballot during the review process at the end of touchscreen voting: There have been several instances during Early Voting and today when voters have selected the Republican candidate but in the final review the Democrat candidate is marked with an "X". Election officials state that this can happen because of improper machine calibration or when some holds their finger on the screen for too long (it jumps to the next category and automatically selects the first candidate - always a Democrat).

After the polls close at 8 p.m., I will begin the evening at the Carroll County Republican Central Committee victory party at Buffalo Wild Wings (404 Englar Road, Westminster). Their event starts at 7 pm. Election results will be televised live as they are reported!
Later in the evening, I will attend the Bob Ehrlich campaign election night party at the Timonium Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall (2200 York Road, Timonium).
