THEY DID WHAT THEY COULD: THREE STORIES
In the days and months after 9-11, many people did what they could to help.
Richie Cabo is a horticulturalist with The Arthur Ross Citywide Nursery in New York. He was there when the beaten-up trunk of a Callery pear tree was pulled from the ashes of Ground Zero and brought to Richie and his colleagues to save. Over the years, the tree has been nursed back to life; this past December it was replanted at the site of the attack.
After September 11th, chef Angie Kardashiansold her restaurant in California and moved to New York to cook meals for the firefighters of the city. Thanks to Storycorps for help with this story.
Eric Leinung was twelve when his brother, Paul, went to work on the 100th floor of the World Trade Center on September 11th. Ten years later, Eric reports on how he found his way through the loss and worked to bring his family back together. Thanks to Radio Rookies for help with this story.
