While pundits, politicians and prognosticators have tapped Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as one of the most likely GOP vice presidential picks, conservative commentator Ann Coulter warned today that such a choice would be a “mistake.”

“I think that would be a mistake because the same people who loved Rubio loved [former presidential candidate and Texas Gov.]Rick Perry,” Coulter told me Sunday during the “This Week” roundtable discussion. “I want someone who’s been a bit more tested.”

UPDATE: Maryland Reporter notes a 3rd GOP candidate response from Brandon Rippeon. He calls both Bartlett and Brinkley "unworthy."

The Republican Primary in Maryland's 6th Congressional District is getting crazy as we get closer to election day. Over the weekend, Rep. Roscoe Bartlett took out a sledgehammer and smacked challenger State Sen David Brinkley in the head. His supporters unearthed audio tapes of 911 calls placed by Brinkley's ex-wife that were made when the Senator was caught in an affair.

Two Republican candidates are now condemning the shenanigans in the CD6 race. Below we print email blast responses from former Delegate Robin Ficker and Delegate Kathy Afzali. No energy source can do more good for America than domestic oil and gas. You often mention the need for more well-paying jobs. Our companies are creating them — in particular, tens of thousands of every skill level from rig workers and truck drivers to top-flight engineers and Ph.D.s.

The paradigm shift in American oil and gas exploration and production is the brightest spot in our struggling economy. Keeping it going requires understanding of some critical business realities:

Approval of the entire Keystone XL pipeline should happen now — not after the election. Yes, we are pleased TransCanada decided to build a critical section of the project from Cushing to the Gulf Coast. We note that this section doesn’t require State Department approval. However, America’s greatest benefit will come when we can transport oil from our best energy partner, Canada, and oil-rich North Dakota and Montana.

In all honesty, we didn’t expect Bartlett to seek re-election given his district was redrawn to elect a Democrat. But the 85-year-old lawmaker is running and running hard. That doesn’t change the fundamentals of his new district, which underwent one of the biggest partisan conversions of any seat in the country. It’s possible that all of the ingredients could come together for Bartlett, who faces a primary next month, to pull off a win. With the April 3 primary only two weeks away, Maryland’s 6th district race has become one of the most heated in the country.

Democratic candidates are busy campaigning across the district — which covers western Maryland and stretches all the way to the Washington, D.C., suburbs — in hopes of challenging Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, the likely Republican nominee, in the fall.

The top two Democratic contenders, state Senate Majority Leader Rob Garagiola and businessman John Delaney, participated in a candidate forum on Saturday sponsored by the Washington County Democratic Central Committee. The event was held at the UAW Hall in Hagerstown. Garagiola and Delaney, along with the other three Democrats running, also participated in a debate Sunday in Gaithersburg to discuss issues ranging from Iran to women’s contraception... http://atr.rollcall.com/maryland-democratic-primary-to-face-bartlett-heats-up/
