Tiger Woods to not be fined after all

Tiger Woods to not be fined after all

August 11, 2009 5:37 PM

This just in from: Daniel - Community at Newsy http://www.Newsy.com

Hi Kevin,

I just saw you'd posted the news passed on by the AP about the fine that was reportedly to be charged to Tiger Woods, but in fact that report was erroneous, according to BetFirms, which quotes both Woods and Ty Votaw, a spokesman for the PGA, saying that there was never going to be a fine:

I also thought if you're interested in Tiger Woods' progress you'd enjoy our video, which compares his record with that of all-time great, Jack Nicklaus. With only a few PGA wins and majors separating them, Woods may be poised to take his place as the greatest golfer of all time:

"Our approach to our stories is unique in that we provide depth by offering views on different facets of the discussion and inviting viewers to come to their own conclusions."

Condi's new gig: Golf reporter By Michael Calderone

Condoleezza Rice, an avid sports fan, has talked in the past about wanting to become NFL commissioner. So maybe it's not too surprising that following up her stint as secretary of state, Rice would take up sportswriting.

Rice's first offering, a report from the Masters tournament, is now up on The Daily Beast.

20070712 Golfers play 110 holes in one day

Golfers play 110 holes in one day

Tue Jun 12, 4:49 PM ET

When a buddy said they couldn't do it — play six rounds of golf in one day — that was all the challenge they needed. At the Beatrice Country Club on Monday, Beatrice High School golf coach Dick Stuart, middle school teacher Ben Essam and golf pro Joel Brueggemann played 110 holes — two more than six rounds of 18 holes.

[…]

Stuart, Essam and Brueggemann started their golf morning at 5:45 a.m. and finished at 9:15 p.m.

[…]

Although a world record was not their goal, they finished well short.

With the aid of a golf cart, Robb James of Canada played 851 holes at Victoria Golf Course at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, over 24 hours on June 21-22, 2004.

The most holes played in 24 hours of walking is 401, a feat achieved by Australian Ian Colston at Bendigo Golf Club, Victoria, Australia, on Nov. 27-28, 1971.

20030225 Golf vs Corporate America

Golf vs Corporate America

February 25th, 2003

THE QUESTION: Over a generation ago, in 1923, who was:

1. President of the largest steel company?

2. President of the largest gas company?

3. President of the New York Stock Exchange?

4. Greatest wheat speculator?

5. President of the Bank of International Settlement?

6. Great Bear of Wall Street?

These men were considered some of the world's most successful of their day. Now, 80 years later, the history book asks us, if we know what ultimately became of them.

The answer:

1. The president of the largest steel company, Charles Schwab, died a pauper.

2. The president of the largest gas company, Edward Hopson, went insane.

3. The president of the NYSE, Richard Whitney, was released from prison to die at home.

4. The greatest wheat speculator, Arthur Cooger, died abroad, penniless.

5. The president of the Bank of International Settlement, shot himself.

6. The Great Bear of Wall Street, Cosabee Livermore, also committed suicide.

However, in that same year, 1923, the PGA Champion and the winner of the most important golf tournament, the US Open, was Gene Sarazen.

What became of him?

He played golf until he was 92, died in 1999 at the age of 95. He was financially secure at the time of his death.

THE MORAL: Screw work. Play golf. You'll live longer and be better off in the end.
