Send Me - Jenn Johnson feat. Chris Quilala

“Send Me” was the ‘Song of the Day’ in the contemporary service at Grace Lutheran Church on Sunday, February 6, 2022. It is certainly one of my favorites. Especially since I always associate it with one of my favorite Bible passages – and a favorite of many first responders: Isaiah 6 verses 1-8, especially verse 8: Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

"Send Me" Jenn Johnson feat. Chris Quilala. Premiered Sep 28, 2021. "Send Me" was written by Brandon Lake, Jenn Johnson, and Kari Jobe Carnes.

VERSE 1
If it’s bandaging the broken
Or washing filthy feet
Here I am Lord, send me
If it’s loving one another
Even when we don’t agree
Here I am Lord, send me

VERSE 2
If I’m poor or if I’m wealthy
I’ll serve You just the same
Here I am Lord, send me
On the mountain or the valley
I will choose to praise
Here I am Lord, send me

CHORUS
If I’m known by how I love
Let my life reflect how much I love You
I love You
And before You even ask
Oh my answer will be yes
‘Cause I love You
Oh I love You

VERSE 3
If the truth cuts like an arrow
I will say it anyway
‘Cause here I am Lord, send me
If it’s means that they’ll reject me
Lord I will still obey
‘Cause here I am Lord, send me

VERSE 4
When I’m standing in Your glory
I’ll be glad I chose to say
Here I am Lord, send me
Well done good and faithful
I live to hear You say
Here I am Lord, send me

TAG
Here I am Lord, send me
Here I am Lord, send me

SPONTANEOUS
Oh how I love You
With everything
With all my dreams, all my hopes
How I love You
You can have it all, You can have it all
You can have it all
What I have I give You God
Be it unto me according to Your word

“First responders, medics carry burden when deaths occur” by Heather Mongilio

“First responders, medics carry burden when deaths occur” by Jeremy Arias, Heather Mongilio, The Frederick News Post, June 30, 2019

For police officers [fire and police chaplains] and doctors alike, telling family members a loved one died is part of the job.

[…]

New officers are taught to avoid using euphemisms or phrases like "your family member is in a better place," or "your loved one has moved on," preferring instead to use more direct language, while remaining as sympathetic as possible.

Frederick police send two officers on death notifications, preferably a male and a female, along with one of several volunteer chaplains the department rotates between to assist.

Baltimore Police Department Detective Sean Suiter has died

Baltimore Police Department Detective Sean Suiter has died

Nov. 16, 2017 by Chaplain Kevin Dayhoff

On Nov. 16, 2016 Detective Sean Suiter, 43, an 18-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department, succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained on Nov. 15, 2017, while attempting to interview a person during a homicide investigation in the 900 block of Bennett Place in Baltimore, MD.

According to numerous media accounts, including the Officer Down Memorial Page, and the Baltimore Sun, “he and his partner were canvassing the area when he observed a man attempting to hide in an alley. He notified his partner and then approached the man to speak to him. The subject produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Detective Suiter in the head.

“Detective Suiter was placed in a patrol car to be transported to University of Maryland Medical Center. During the transport the patrol car was struck by another vehicle. Detective Suiter was then transferred to another vehicle and transported to the hospital where he remained on life support until succumbing to the wound the following day.

“The man who shot him fled the scene and remains at large.

“Detective Suiter had served with the Baltimore Police Department for 18 years and was assigned to the Homicide Unit.”

Please join me in a prayer for Baltimore Police Department Detective Sean Suiter:

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of god. Matthew 5:9 Rest peacefully Detective Suiter in the presence of God.

We are praying for your family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and fellow officers. Rest in peace brother, your watch is over we will take it from here, you duty is done here, God has your place in heaven.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

Dayhoff: Carroll made great by many who have recently passed away

By Kevin Dayhoff January 27, 2017 Our community lost a number of distinguished community leaders in 2016. http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/columnists/features/history/ph-cc-dayhoff-012917-20170127-column.html

Recently, a number of us gathered to trade stories and pay our respects to Woody Swam at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel in Manchester.

[…]

“An old African proverb says, "When an old man dies, a library burns to the ground." This winter I have attended more funerals than I care to recall. Many of the folks were in their 80s or 90s. Community leaders, who by their sacrifice, hard work, and endeavor, helped make Carroll County what it is we enjoy today. In their passing, they take volumes of history with them…”

[…]

Our community lost a number of distinguished community leaders in 2016. Folks such as T. Bryan McIntire, who passed away on Dec. 16 at age 86. McIntire served as the Carroll County state's attorney from 1962 to 1970.

Dave Schaeffer, 96, died on Dec. 20. After Schaeffer served in the Army during World War II, he started the Schaeffer Lumber Company in 1946 with his dad, and his brother.

“My Westminster High School class of 1971 classmates Bob Hyer and Doug Menchey died in 2016. Menchey worked for many folks in Carroll County with the Menchey Construction Company. Hyer was a 1975 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy…”

We demand that the US government create a Lutheran registry

We demand that the US government create a Lutheran registry. Just saying.

I’ll just leave this right here:

"As Lutherans, many of our ancestors faced the pain of having to flee our homes and the joy of being welcomed in new communities across the United States. As we have done throughout history, I urge our elected officials to honor our biblical witness as well as the best of our nation’s traditions of refuge and stand firmly against any policies that result in scaling back the refugee resettlement program." - The Rev. Elisabeth A. Eaton, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – Retrieved Jan. 27, 2017

I am a Matthew chapter 25 chaplain to give voice to those often without a voice, to give form to my love of "other,” because I hate bullies and bullying, because God has called me as a chaplain to be welcoming and showing hospitality and mercy to all.

Leviticus 19:34: The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

In New York, lawyers for two Iraqi men detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport — one of whom served the U.S. military mission in Iraq — filed a federal lawsuit challenging the order as unconstitutional.

One of the men, Hameed Khalid Darweesh, was released Saturday afternoon without explanation from federal officials. “This is the humanity, this is the soul of America,’’ he told reporters. “This is what pushed me to move, to leave my country and come here … America is the land of freedom — the land of freedom, the land of the right.’’

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

A POLICE OFFICERS CHRISTMAS

We give thanks to those who are serving our country. We Pray and ask the Lord for the protection of our military personnel, law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel and their families.

We especially pray at this time our military, the CIA and members of the intelligence community who risk their lives for our safety and quality of life.

We pray for the quick recovery of Andrew Groman, a three-year veteran of the Baltimore City Police Dept. that was shot last night in the line of duty.

A POLICE OFFICERS CHRISTMAS

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the streets,
not a person was stirring, 'cept an officer on the beat.
As he quietly patrolled the town with great care,
children and parents slept peacefully there.

The officer was clad in his blues and his vest,
gun on his hip, always looking his best.
He'd just pulled aside for a quick bite to eat,
When all of a sudden, out on the street,

A bright light appeared from out of nowhere,
He shielded his eyes from the brilliant glare.
'Twas an angel of the Lord at the squad's rear,
He smiled and spoke, "Dear Officer, don't fear."

"I've been sent by God with a message for you
who faithfully serve while wearing the blue.
He wants you to know He loves you all,
He's pleased with the way you've answered His call.

"To protect and serve others, so selfless you've been,
Your bravery and kindness have known no end.
Even in tragedy, when nights became long,
You've helped countless strangers by being strong.

"God sees your heart, the joy and the pain,
He knows the profession can often bring strain.
So he sent me here to let you know,
That as you patrol, He goes where you go.

"As you protect others, your Father protects you,
His angels go with you, His Spirit does, too.
No bullet too fast, no bad guy too strong,
I'm sent to make sure that your life will be long.

"So fear not the night, and fear not the day,
fear not the threats that might come your way.
I'm sent to accompany you on your beat,
There's not one moment you're alone on the street."

The officer sat stunned by the love of His God,
He bowed his head, with a tear gave a nod.
As the officer said thank you, the angel took flight,
"God's got your back, carry on, and goodnight."

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— Ephesians 6: 10-18

Westminster Patch by Kevin Dayhoff, November 25, 2013 – December 14, 2013

Sadly, for folks who have suffered a personal loss in recent years, the holidays can also be a difficult time and leave friends and family starring down a long vacant hallway (Kevin Dayhoff, October 16, 2010)
This past week marked the beginning of the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holidays. It is a time to celebrate the past year with our friends and family and look forward to new beginnings.

If you are feeling blue for the holidaze – reach-out for help. You might be surprised to find-out how many friends will go out on a limb to help - know the way out… Just saying. (Kevin Dayhoff, January 8, 2013 in Crete.)
However, sadly the holidays can also be a difficult time for folks who have suffered a personal loss in recent years. Especially if that personal loss occurred in the past year…

Remember Jesus is the reason for the season. And everything happens for a reason… (Kevin Dayhoff, January 8, 2013 at Suda Bay Cemetery in Crete, Greece.)
Fortunately there are many resources in the community that are available to help cope. Although Carroll Hospice has already had a “coping with the holidays” workshop, many local churches have a “Blue Christmas” service including Taylorsville United Methodist Church. (And of course, there is always “Retail Therapy - All signs point to shopping locally in Carroll County this Christmas season.”)

If you are feeling blue for the holidays, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn how many of your friends care for you and are willing to lend a hand. Don’t row this boat alone. (Kevin Dayhoff, June 8, 2013)
The service at Taylorsville will take place on December 19, 2013 at 7 p.m. at 4356 Ridge Road, Mt Airy, MD 21771.

Pastor Sarah B. Dorrance serves as the pastor at Taylorsville and writes, Blue Christmas “is a time to be celebrating the birth of our Savior even in the midst of changed circumstances that might be hard for us. It is a time to remember that Jesus changes everything, even the hurts and the pains we might be experiencing today, and the birth of our Lord is something special to be celebrated.”

Westminster Fire Dept. prayers for Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Westminster Fire Dept. prayers for Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Heavenly Father,

We are brought together through your common call to service to our community.

As we gather for tonight’s meeting, grant us the wisdom for your vision for a better world and better community.

Nurture the faith of those tested by illness, grief, addiction, anxiety, pestilence, or liberals. Give them a spirit of endurance.

Heavenly Father, whose compassion never fails; we commend to you those who mourn, especially the friends and families of Baltimore Co. Police Officer Jason Schneider of Manchester, who was killed in the line of duty last Wednesday, August 28, 2013. The 13-year-veteran of the force was shot and killed delivering a warrant.

I worked many years with his mother-in-law, Shelly Fulton, when we both worked for the city of Westminster. We say a special prayer for her and her family as well.

We Pray and ask the Lord…for the protection of our military personnel, law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel and their families.

Thank you for being the constant source of wisdom, courage, and perseverance.

Keep us centered on your path of righteousness… Stay safe. Amen
