Obama-Cantor relationship sours - News from The Hill By Mike Lillis

News from The Hill

Obama-Cantor relationship sours By Mike Lillis

How are relations between President Obama and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.)? Well, it's complicated.

Earlier this month, the House majority leader stood by Obama's side as the president signed a pediatric research law championed by Cantor. It marked a rare case of ideological opposites joining forces to move legislation in an election year.

Just two weeks later, the kumbaya moment was old news. The powerful politicians this week traded barbs over which party is to blame for the House's failure to consider immigration reform legislation — a spat suggesting the odds are long that Congress will overhaul the system in 2014.

Boehner Remarks at Media Avail with Republican Whip Eric Cantor

WASHINGTON, DC -- House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) made the following remarks during a media spray held prior to a meeting with Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA):

“We’re humbled by the trust that the American people have placed in us.  As I said last night, our job is to listen to the American people and follow the will of the American people.  It’s pretty clear the American people want us to do something about cutting spending here in Washington and helping to create an environment where we get jobs back in our country.  We’ve got a big job ahead of us.  That’s why you will see us roll up our sleeves and go to work today.”

Philadelphia man charged with threatening GOP’s No. 2 in Congress

A Northeast Philadelphia man was charged with threatening the life of a Virginia Congressman and his family in an Internet video he had studded with Old Testament references and in which he referred to the "final Yom Kippur."

Norman Leboon, 38, of the 1600 block of Benner Street in Mayfair, was charged by the U.S. Attorney's office in Philadelphia with two counts involving threats against U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.), the Republican House whip.

Leboon was arrested Saturday by the FBI, three days after his YouTube video was seen by someone in San Francisco and reported to the FBI.

Although Leboon called Cantor "my Congressman" in his homemade video, there seems to be no evidence Leboon ever lived anywhere but Philadelphia and its suburbs.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert K. Reed said Cantor and his family were not harmed as a result of Leboon's alleged activities. Reed added that there was no evidence LeBoon was involved in the shot fired at Cantor's Congressional office in Richmond after last week's vote on health insurance reform...

House Republican Whip Cantor speaks at Frederick Dinner by Meg Tully

I attended this dinner with six of my “The Tentacle” colleagues and this was a super event. Ms. Tully has done a great job of capturing it in print. I will post pictures later…

U S House Republican Whip: 'This country needs us' Originally published in the Frederick News-Post April 30, 2009 By Meg Tully News-Post Staff

U.S. House Republican Whip Eric Cantor urged Frederick Republicans to go forward as party leaders and focus on winning the midterm election in 2010.

"This country needs us as a check and a balance on the complete reign of power that is going on in Washington right now," Cantor said.

The Virginia representative spoke to about 240 people gathered for the annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner at Dutch's Daughter restaurant Wednesday night. The dinner is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the
Frederick County Republican Central Committee.

Speaking about an hour before President Barack Obama held his own news conference in Washington, Cantor called several policies being enacted as divergent from Republican values, including the budget conference report adopted earlier in the day.

Calling the economy the top issue facing the nation, Cantor said Democrats think expanding the government will solve the country's woes.

"We've got our president deciding who to hire and who to fire as CEO of an auto company," Cantor said. "Now where has this country gone if this is where we are?"

[…]

Frederick County Republican Central Committee chairwoman Kelly Schulz was encouraged by Cantor's message.

[…]

Delegate Paul Stull was given the organization's first Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as a member of the central committee and then in the House of Delegates.
