Maryland lawmakers debate via Twitter - baltimoresun.com
Maryland lawmakers debate via Twitter - baltimoresun.com: "By Annie Linskey, The Baltimore Sun
5:36 p.m. EDT, March 17, 2012
Republican Del. Justin Ready rose during a recent debate in Annapolis to complain that Maryland's process for petitioning a bill to referendum is "complicated and cumbersome."
Del. Ariana Kelly, a Democrat from Montgomery County, had the opposite view. "Shouldn't it be?" she said.
"No, petitioning a bill should be easier," Ready, who represents a Carroll County district, fired back.
The exchange was remarkable for one reason: It started on the House floor, but it continued in cyberspace, with the two delegates sparring via Twitter." ... http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-lawmaker-twitter-20120317,0,5063687.story?page=1

Gawker: It Is Not Safe to Break Up in a Burger King Any More
It Is Not Safe to Break Up in a Burger King Any More
BY ADRIAN CHEN
November 8, 2011
Web developer Andy Boyle was hanging out in a Burger King when he overheard a married couple having an argument that "Aaron Sorkin couldn't write… any better." So he live-tweeted the whole thing, with extensive multimedia.
Check it out. It is an impressive piece of eavesdropping! And also a terrifying example of crowd-sourced surveillance. From now on, it's best to activate a portable cell phone scrambler to stymie any nearby Twitter users whenever you're going to have embarrassing personal conversations in public... http://gawker.com/5857507/it-is-not-safe-to-break-up-in-a-burger-king-any-more

London Police To Arrest Rioters Who Posted TwitPics Of Their Stolen Loot

http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/london-police-to-arrest-rioters-who-posted-twitpics-of-their-stolen-loot_b12483We’ve seen our fair share of stupid Twitter moves here at AllTwitter, but this one is among the best of the worst. London rioters who stole goods from local businesses actually took to Twitter to boast about their newly acquired loot – and London police aren’t wasting any time rooting them out and slapping them with handcuffs...

Here are 15 things guardian editor Alan Rusbridger says Twitter does rather effectively and which should be interest to anyone involved in the media at any level.
I’ve lost count of the times people – including a surprising number of colleagues in media companies – roll their eyes at the mention of Twitter. “No time for it,” they say. “Inane stuff about what twits are having for breakfast. Nothing to do with the news business.”
Well, yes and no. Inanity – yes, sure, plenty of it. But saying that Twitter has got nothing to do with the news business is about as misguided as you could be.
Here, off the top of my head, are 15 things, which Twitter does rather effectively and which should be of the deepest interest to anyone involved in the media at any level... http://www.cyberjournalist.net/why-twitter-matters-for-media-organisations/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed:+cyberjournalist+(CyberJournalist.net)

Firefox 3.5 Not Playing Nicely With Twitter
Firefox 3.5 Not Playing Nicely With Twitter

This was especially timely and informative. Although I certainly sing Firefox’s praises; I have also had problems with Twitter while using Firefox – and I just tossed it up to my mediocre internet reception and my Windows XP, which seems, at times, to grow exponentially slower with each passing day.

Too funny...
Mr. Trippi writes: "Are you addicted to Twitter? I got a laugh from this piece over at Salon:"
Last Thursday morning, I sat down at my computer with my cup of sludgy coffee,
just like any other day. I checked my e-mail and glanced at the New York Times
Web site. But when I opened up Twitter, expecting the usual hodgepodge of
scattered thoughts and hectic questions, I found there was nothing there.
Nothing at all.
It was the day of the Great Twitter Outage. But I
didn’t know that yet. I only knew that something was terribly

Actually, it was funny, in a kind of pathetic, soul-crushing
way: I stared at the blank screen, hitting refresh over and over. Waiting for
everyone to come back. For my online life to resume. Finally, I accepted the
truth. Twitter, my favorite unreliable news source and constant companion, was
gone.

GIs Use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube Against Taliban

Monday, June 01, 2009
KABUL — The U.S. military in Afghanistan is launching a Facebook page, a YouTube site and feeds on Twitter as part of a new communications effort to reach readers who get their information on the Internet rather than in newspapers, officials said Monday.
The effort, which officials described as a way to counter Taliban propaganda, represents a sea change in how the military can communicate its message.
"There's an entire audience segment that seeks its news from alternative means outside traditional news sources, and we want to make sure we're engaging them as well," said Col. Greg Julian, the top U.S. spokesman in Afghanistan.
