PIO & Public Educator Engagement

PIO & Public Educator Engagement

At our Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association PIO Committee meeting Monday evening, April 30, 2018, Westminster Fire Department PIO Bob Cumberland called to our attention some information resources that may be found on the ResponderSafety.com website:

“Every day across America, distracted and uninformed drivers pose a major threat to the safety and wellbeing of first responders who risk their own lives on roads and highways to assist those involved in traffic incidents. Please join us to reach the traveling public with roadway incident response messages that will help keep them and your personnel safe.

“On this page, we have compiled the resources of most value to Public Information Officers (PIOs) who communicate with media outlets, as well as to fire and life safety educators and others within your department who communicate with the public. We encourage you to explore the full ResponderSafety.com web site.”

The page has a wealth of information on it that is informative, insightful, thoughtful, and presented well.

Be safe out there.

For dinner on Wed., on our eating tour of Ocean City Md., we ate at Huggins #MSFA2017

For dinner on Wed., on our eating tour of Ocean City Md., we ate at Huggins Crab House www.higginscrabhouse.com at 31st St. 410-289-2581

We choose to eat outside on the rooftop, which worked out well because it gave us a great view of the sunset.

I ordered the Seafood Pasta, which includes over ½ pound of shrimp, scallops, clams, and mussels sauteed, and served with a choice of Alfredo or marinara sauce $25.99.

Caroline ordered Seafood Tacos, with Mahi Mahi. It included two tacos with a fresh vegetable blend that has been infused with a special Asian sauce. $15.49.

Our dinners were wonderful. The service was great. The restaurant was nicely appointed and decorated and quite appealing.

If you go, ask for our server, Sherwood, he was friendly and very good. We liked him.

Or ask for Emily Mitrovich. Emily is a Winter's Mill High School graduate from Westminster, who recently graduated from Salisbury University. She has a teacher's certificate in early childhood education and is currently looking for work in Carroll and Baltimore County public schools. Of course we encouraged her to to come back to Carroll County.

It is a small world, after talking with Emily, she was able to recall that she came to the Westminster mayor's office to interview me when she was in the third grade. I remember it well. What fun

#MSFA2017

We are excited to bring this packet of information to you about the upcoming 125th Annual Convention and Conference of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA) and the Ladies Auxiliary. The 125th Celebration has been taking place all year long throughout the Great State of Maryland and will climax with the Convention in Ocean City, Maryland, on Saturday, June 17, 2017 and continue through Friday, June 23, 2017. This year the Convention Committee has been working extremely hard to create more family participation activities as a part of the week-long schedule of events. We encourage you to bring the family to the beach and experience a unique Ocean City Family Memory.

We hope that you take advantage of the many opportunities for informative presentations, networking with your peers from around the state, getting additional training and education by attending one of the many conference seminars offered, and getting hands-on-opportunities to view new product/technology at our two exhibit halls. In addition, take some time to attend our Sunday Joint Memorial Service and our Awards Presentation on Tuesday morning as we recognize the achievement, accomplishments, and dedication of many departments and individuals within the MSFA and the Ladies Auxiliary. Look for events marked “NEW” to see what has been added or changed.

It is important that you take some time to look over the entire convention and conference schedule to make sure you do not miss anything. The convention committee is committed in bringing you the best annual gathering possible. Westminster Vol. Fire Dept. Treasurer Caroline Babylon leads a number of children in a 'stop, drop, and roll' demonstration

Westminster Vol. Fire Dept. Treasurer Caroline Babylon leads a number of children in a 'stop, drop, and roll' demonstration for the safety and fire prevention program at the Third Annual KIDZPO at Grace Lutheran Church Sat March 25, 2017 21 Carroll St Westminster MD.

Westminster Police Auxiliary members Ken Carlisle and Larry Myers, and WFD Chaplain Kevin Dayhoff assisted, but did not demonstrate the dropping and rolling portion of the demonstration. Just saying. But I am betting that the WFD Secretary and Fire Prevention Chair Jamie Petry or WFD Fundraising Chair Brenda Roper would have demonstrated the drop and roll well.

Dec. 31, 2016 - Do not drink and drive. Your dog would not understand why you never came home. I mean, I can explain to your family, friends and loved-ones that you had a terrible accident – but how will I be able to tell your dog? Help me out here – do not drink and drive. Give it a rest. Give me a break. Give the keys to a designated driver. Just saying. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209669173819709&set=a.1514955267414.75651.1040426835&type=3&theater

First snow and ice of the season hits Carroll County

First snow and ice of the season hits Carroll County

Dec. 17, 2016

We did not enjoy the cold and the snow today as we ran a few errands. I do not like winter. Dec. 17, 2016

The roads were in fairly good shape this afternoon thanks to the hard work of the Westminster, Carroll County, and Maryland snow removal crews. They are rock stars and rank up there with Santa Claus this time of the year.

However, I imagine all the wet roads are going to turn to ice this evening. If you do not have to go out, stay home. If you must go out on the roads, please be safe.

The firefighters, EMS providers, and police work hard to keep you safe and we want all our men and woman in uniform to go home safe to their families at the end of the day. Do your part, and make some hot chocolate and watch the Hallmark channel from the warmth and safety of your living room couch.

Caroline and I stopped by the Westminster Vol. Fire Dept. engine bays...

Caroline and I stopped in the engine bay to reflect upon the 60 years that Jack Lippy selflessly served our community. Later in the morning the Westminster Vol. Fire Dept. conducted a memorial service at Myers Durboraw Funeral Home to celebrate the life of Mr. Lippy, who answered the final call on Dec. 4, 2016. God Bless him for his service. http://www.myersdurborawfh.com/notices/John-Lippy Dec. 10, 2016
