Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee endorses Justin Ready for District 5A Carroll County Delegate

Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee endorses local candidate for office.

Announcement made Thursday on Huckabee’s national blog.

By Kevin Dayhoff

On Thursday former Arkansas Gov. and former 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee (R) endorsed Justin Ready, the candidate for District 5A of the Maryland House of Delegates

According to Washington Post political writer, John Wagner; who wrote about the endorsement in the Post’s political blog, Maryland Politics; “Ready, a former executive director of the Maryland Republican Party, served as Huckabee's campaign director for Maryland in 2008.”

Huckabee announced the endorsement on his Huck PAC blog.  Wagner writes that Huckabee “is eying another bid in 2012…”

District 5A includes Westminster, Finksburg, Manchester, and Hampstead and stretches from the Pennsylvania line to the north, the Baltimore County line to the east, Finksburg to the south and Westminster to the west.

Ready had announced his candidacy for House of Delegates relatively early, on January 29, as the last winter session of the Maryland General Assembly began; and long before incumbent District 5A Del. Tanya Shewell announced on July 1 that she would not be seeking re-election.

The other incumbent, Del. Nancy Stocksdale (R) is running for her seat again.  Although there is no Democrat challenger for the seat, two other Republicans have thrown their hat in the ring for the September 14th Republican primary; William Niner of Hampstead, and Dave Wallace of Finksburg.

Ready, who has been quite actively campaigning and has been frequently seen waving his campaign signs along major roads early in the morning and late in the evening as folks commute to work.

He has also gathered quite a few endorsements, including former District 5A Del. Carmen Amedori and retiring Delegate Shewell.

It is not known when the last time such a national know political figure has weighed-in on Carroll County politics or if Huckabee has ever visited the county of if he intends to campaign for ready in the county.

Huckabee wrote on his blog, “Huck PAC and I are proud to endorse Justin Ready for Maryland State Delegate from District 5A.  Justin has the right kind of experience needed to represent the people and he is ready to serve.

“Justin has legislative experience from working in the Maryland General Assembly for two conservative Republican legislators; he’s also served as the Executive Director of the Maryland Republican Party.

“A small business owner, Justin understands firsthand how excessive spending and high taxes wreak havoc on a business and he will fight to reduce taxes and eliminate wasteful spending.  Electing Justin Ready will help bring real positive change to Maryland.

“Justin is pro-life, pro-family and strongly supports 2nd Amendment rights. Just has also been endorsed by Maryland Right to Life, so we will never have to question where he stands on the sanctity of life.

“Please join me in supporting Justin Ready for Maryland State Delegate. We can count on Justin to fight for us in Annapolis.”

Justin Ready for Delegate: Unacceptable

Justin Ready for Delegate: Unacceptable

Justin Ready for Delegate's Notes

Below is a press release from the House Republican Caucus with statements from Minority Leader Tony O'Donnell and Minority Whip Chris Shank. The Democrats in Annapolis have an insatiable appetite for spending and raising taxes. I applaud the House Republicans for trying to amend the budget to insure that there would be no new taxes over the next four years. As a signer of the "No New Taxes" Pledge, I have promised the voters of District 5A that I will reject any attempts to increase the tax burden as their Delegate. My goal is to to lessen the state's crushing tax ball and chain by any means necessary.

Governor Ehrlich's entry into the race against Martin O'Malley underscores our need for strong, energetic conservative leaders who will stand up for families, small businesses, and retirees who are being persecuted and often, have to leave Maryland to make ends meet. You can count on me to join great conservatives like Del. O'Donnell and Del. Shank in the fight.

House Republican Caucus:

House Democrats Vote to Support Tax Increases

ANNAPOLIS – House Democrats today made their appetite for future tax increases very clear.

House Minority Whip Christopher Shank offered an amendment to the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (SB 141) that would have expressed the intent of the General Assembly not to raise, expand, or create new taxes over the next four years. This amendment was offered after a series of Republican-sponsored amendments to reduce the budget and eliminate the structural deficit were rejected.

“It is clear from the debate on the budget and rejection of our amendments that there is no political will in the General Assembly to truly reduce spending,” said Minority Leader Anthony J. O’Donnell. “Our budget analysts have told us that we are at the bottom of the barrel and there are no more funds to raid. If spending is not truly reduced, taxes are the Democrats’ only option.”

“It is time to level with the citizens of Maryland,” said Delegate Christopher Shank. “While tax increases will not be pursued this year, rejecting this amendment makes it clear that the Democrats in the General Assembly plan to raise taxes after the election - just as we saw in 2007.”

The amendment was rejected 39-94.

Brian Griffiths’ Justin Ready interview May 21 2008

Brian Griffiths’ Justin ready interview May 21 2008

Recently Justin Ready announced that he is running for House of Delegates for Carroll County. On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, Brian Griffiths interviewed Mr. Ready “The Justin Ready Interview”: http://blog.briangriffiths.com/2008/05/justin-ready-interveiw.html

~~~~~~
I had the opportunity to interview via email our new State GOP Executive Director Justin Ready. Here is the full Q&A, and it provides a lot of insight into Justin's view on our current situation here in Maryland, where we go for the rest of 2008, and how our party is preparing for 2010 and beyond.
I greatly thank Justin for taking the time to do this!
* * * * * *
Brian Griffiths: You've been on the job for a couple of weeks now, how are you adjusting to the new position.
Justin Ready: I am adjusting pretty well, I think. Its still a process of learning more about day to day responsibilities and technical "stuff" while also looking to move the Party forward and take the next, crucial steps in fundraising and grassroots development. No matter how busy things get, it is an absolute privilege to wake up every morning and be able to work to advance the Maryland Republican Party.
[…]
BG:. Despite the party registration numbers, Maryland has a very vibrant conservative blogosphere. How do you think that bloggers can help the party, and how will you try to engage them?
JR: The conservative blogosphere in Maryland is doing a wonderful job of getting information out to activists all over Maryland. The commentary and issue spotlighting that happens on the blogs really encourages our elected officials and lets them know that they are not alone in the fight. With the dominant print media in this state being so left of center, it is vital that we have alternative outlets.
My plan is to be sure we are keeping bloggers in the loop with what we want to do message wise, while respecting their autonomy. It means treating bloggers as allies but not expecting them to be lockstep with us all the time. In addition, I would like to see the conservative blogosphere call attention to our candidates for office and work to drive volunteers and donations toward GOP candidates that are putting their name on the line to help build our party.
Why I'm Running from Justin Ready on Vimeo.
I'm running for House of Delegates to make sure that Carroll County remains a place where families can afford to live and businesses can thrive.
As a small business owner myself, I know the struggle that businesses and working families face just to pay the bills and save a few bucks for the future.
As your Delegate, I'll fight in Annapolis to:
  • Pass real tax relief for our families
  • Eliminate wasteful spending
  • Lighten the load on businesses
As Executive Director of Maryland Republican Party and while serving as staff in the House of Delegates and the State Senate, I fought to put authentic conservative principles into action in practical ways. I will work tirelessly to make a real difference for us in Annapolis.
I'm ready and respectfully, I ask for your vote in the September 14th Republican Primary. Join our campaign by signing up for email updates, making a donation, or following us on Facebook and Twitter.
Let's make Maryland a place where people want to live - not leave!
Sincerely,
Justin Ready
Maryland General Assembly Republicans File Taxpayer Protection Act
Bill will require 3/5ths Majority in General Assembly to Raise Taxes
Annapolis –This week, Senator Andy Harris (R-7) and Delegate Steve Schuh (R-31), with joint support from the Republican Caucuses in the State Senate and House of Delegates, introduced the "Taxpayer Protection Act". The bill numbers are SB 747 and HB 684.
This exciting piece of legislation would require a 60% vote in each chamber to raise existing taxes or create new ones. It is important to note that the damaging tax increases passed during the 2007 Special Session did not receive such a majority. Had this legislation been in place, Maryland's economy would be better off today.
"Once again, the Republicans in the Maryland General Assembly have shown their dedication and commitment to the hard-working taxpayers of Maryland,” stated Chairman Pelura. “Governor O’Malley is dangerously relying on bailout money from the federal government to balance his budget. When that dries up, he’ll be coming back to the taxpayers to demand more from them.”
Pelura continued, "I urge all Marylanders to call their state senators and delegates and tell them to support this legislation to stop Governor O'Malley and his Democrats allies in the General Assembly from taking any more of our hard-earned dollars."
Dixon and City Democrats Get Raises While Contemplating Layoffs
Public officials accepted a pay raise in this economic climate is beyond bizarre…
Dixon and City Democrats Get Raises While Contemplating Layoffs
ANNAPOLIS—On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Mayor Sheila Dixon, City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, City Comptroller Joan Pratt and the 13 other City Council members had pay raises approved by the Baltimore City Board of Estimates, which all three of them sit on. The move was done without identifying the titles or names of those receiving a raise. This comes at a time when Mayor Dixon has not ruled out layoffs for city workers and revoked cost of living raises for middle managers.
“Once again, this is an example of Maryland Democrat leaders operating under a different set of rules than the rest of us,” said MDGOP Chairman Jim Pelura. “These raises amount to $26,250 which is a substantial amount of money to anyone who is not a big-government politician. Mayor Dixon is talking about laying off lower level city workers. I certainly think that $26,250 might save at least one job. Do as I say, not as I do is becoming a common stance in Baltimore City and the state of Maryland.”
“We need new leadership for Maryland that puts taxpayers, small businesses, and working families first. There are several leaders who have volunteered to take part in the furloughs for state employees. Mayor Dixon, Council President Rawlings-Blake, and Comptroller Pratt should follow suit and reject these pay raises,” concluded Pelura.
