U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd by Kevin Dayhoff

U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd by Kevin Dayhoff

June 30, 2010

(Un)Equal Treatment by The Press

Kevin E. Dayhoff

A short 47-word statement on Sen. Robert C. Byrd’s, (D., WV) website simply said: “The family of U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd,… tearfully announces the passing of the longest serving member of Congress in U.S. history. He was 92.

“Byrd died peacefully at approximately 3 a.m. at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Further details will be made available as soon as possible.”

That short statement contrasts greatly with the legendary eloquent oratory of the gentleman known for his extraordinarily long speeches in which he would wax poetically about the history of England and Greece, and traditions of the Senate – both the American and Roman Senate.

Of course, some of his legendary ability to stand and speak for hours on end is not necessarily the stuff of which to be proud.

It was Senator Byrd who, according to a history published by the U.S. Senate, “At 9:51 on the morning of June 10, 1964, Senator Robert C. Byrd completed an address that he had begun 14 hours and 13 minutes earlier. The subject was the pending Civil Rights Act of 1964…”

For those who study history, Senator Byrd – a Democrat – spoke in opposition to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964.

There is much to be admired in Senator Byrd, Nov. 20, 1917 – June 28, 2010. And to be certain, you will hear and read about his fascinating life in glowing terms by the liberal media in the next several weeks to come.

Perhaps that is as it should be.

Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown says people who were opposed to health-care reform are racists

Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown shows innocent interns what Washington is really like

During a bipartisan education seminar for congressional interns last week, Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown told a crowd of young people that those who opposed the Democrats’ health-care reform plan were on the wrong side of history, much like segregationists who opposed the Civil Rights movement.

While most speakers who participate in the summer lecture series discuss what it’s like working in Washington or use the time to motivate the internship class, some who were present during the Tuesday meeting said Brown took the opportunity to launch what they considered to be “a partisan attack.”

“He said that people who were opposed to health-care reform were similar to the bigots and racists that were against desegregation reform,” a Republican congressional intern who attended the lecture told The Daily Caller. The intern requested not to be named. “It was ridiculous,” he added.

Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal and the inconvenient truth about “Mission Impossible”

http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2010/06/mcchrystal-spoke-truth-to-power.html

Jun 23, 2010 ... President Barack Obama stripped Army General Stanley McChrystal of his command of US troops in Afghanistan for making disparaging remarks ... Gee, one may only imagine that journalists will have great access to the military now – maybe not…

What we are left with is a mixed bag.

Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal got into trouble with the president and the leadership of the Democrat Party because he publicly said what many in the military and foreign policy development and execution have been saying privately for over a year.

The president had no choice but to relieve him of command.

Of course if Gen. McChrystal had uttered such observations during the Bush Administration, there would no end to the praise adulation from the very same Democrat leaders.

In the parlance of those on the left: McChrystal spoke truth to power.

McChrystal out; Petraeus picked for Afghanistan - Yahoo! News

Or this General Betray Us? McCain Asks When Clinton Will Apologize to Petraeus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXcXzoHjqhE&feature=related

Gee, I’m guessing that the appointment of General Petraeus requires a certain “suspension of disbelief.”

The Obama administration's attitude towards the military makes the Clinton administration's view look respectful...

That said, what McChrystal did was wrong. The military protects freedom of speech - it does not practice it.

Not to perseverate upon the issue, however, if the American public were to be aware of the increasingly - absolutely seething intellectual revolt of the American military over the military practices and policy of the Obama administration, it would make the alarm over the economy present like Romper Room.

If the traditional media continues to cover-up for the president, it will only add gasoline to the fire.

I have wanted to write about it; however, I usually avoid anonymous sources... (The most vocal are former Obama supporters.)

I have been observing the military closely since the late 1960s and I find the current unrest in the military unnerving.

The grunts on the frontline in Afghanistan call the war effort, “Mission Impossible.”

In spite of his extraordinary service as a black ops warrior, I have not been a McChrystal fan of the role he has played as the top military commander in Afghanistan.

However firing Gen. McChrystal for expressing the opinion of an increasingly large majority of military could precipitate an even bigger crisis.

How the president handles this current matter is critical. To paraphrase someone wiser: “The inconvenient truth is that when it comes to the substance of his criticism, most in the military think McChrystal ‘was right.’”

While we are attempting to sort it all out, be sure to read the Baltimore Reporter’s June 23, 2010 post: Obama’s Rules of Engagement In Afghanistan Will Ensure Our Failure (Filed under: General, bad foreign policy, Democratic weakness in Defense and the War on Terror) — Robert Farrow from Flopping Aces: The new rules of fighting a war….Obama style, via George F. Oddly enough, MoveOn.org still had this Sept. 2007 ad up as of June 18, according to their Google cache. But if you go to http://pol.moveon.org/petraeus.html now, it’s gone. They kept it there for almost 3 years before taking it down all of a sudden.

ABC Frets Over Pickle McChrystal Has Put Obama Into: Look 'Petulant' or 'Weak'

By: Brent Baker
June 22, 2010 20:47 ET

ABC, CBS and NBC all led Tuesday night with multiple stories on the “firestorm” over disrespectful coments by General Stanley McChrystal and his aides about President Obama and other administration officials, but ABC's Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos particularly despaired over the position in which McChrystal has put Obama.

Sawyer fretted that Obama “now faces a mind-boggling choice,” before Stephanopoulos kvetched “the President has really been put in a real political box” and “a very painful political position,” forcing him to choose between “looking thin-skinned and petulant” or “looking weak.”

CBS's Katie Couric didn't go that far, but she was disturbed by the burden on Obama: “This controversy is about the last thing the President needed on his plate as he deals with two wars overseas and another against an invasion of oil off the gulf coast.”

Daily Caller: Another Democrat admits Obama White House offered jobs to get him out of Senate race

Democratic Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff, who is challenging incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet in Colorado, said late Wednesday that deputy White House chief of staff Jim Messina said he could be given one of three high-ranking federal jobs if he gave up his candidacy.

Romanoff said he was told by Messina that two high-ranking positions at USAID and the director’s position at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency “might be available to me were I not pursuing the Senate race.”

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency director’s position would have been a post in charge of a $55 million budget and a staff of 78 people, which requires Senate confirmation.

It is now the second confirmed Senate race in which the Obama administration has tried to lure challengers to Democratic incumbents out of their races with offers or potential government jobs, flirting with ethical and possibly even legal violations that have besmirched a president who based much of his candidacy on changing the way Washington operates.

Romanoff’s bombshell comes days after White House counsel Bob Bauer confirmed last Friday that White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel went through former President Bill Clinton in an attempt to move Rep. Joe Sestak out of the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary.

Here we go again: Our neighborhood-friendly followers of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are back with yet another display of affection. Folks, c'mon, we know that the jihadists on board the Turkish vessel that was disrupted by Israeli commandos on Monday morning just wanted to bring "humanitarian" aid to the impoverished Palestinians suffering in the Gaza Strip. But noooo, the evil Israeli Navy had to foil the trip, and instead they instigated a riot that resulted in ten civilian deaths.

Brutes I tell you! Brutes!

Well, that's the narrative we've been hearing about the incident involving the six-ship flotilla.

Now, back to reality people: Israeli soldiers were ambushed as they were lowered by ropes from helicopters onto the decks on the Mavi Marmara. Your jaw will drop when you see this footage.

After Hamas, the terrorist organization that has controlled the Gaza Strip since June 2007, unilaterally broke a cease-fire on December 19 and resumed shelling southern Israel, Israeli warplanes sprang to Israel’s defense December 27 by attacking Hamas throughout Gaza. Oil disaster continues as mainstream media scrambles to defend Obama

Oil disaster continues as mainstream media scrambles to defend Obama

Can you only imagine the liberal media press coverage if the oil spill mess had occurred during the Bush administration?

Even with the traditional mainstream media in his hip pocket, President Obama must be regretting how he and the Democrats astroturfed all the blame on Katrina on President Bush and held harmless the Democratic mayor of New Orleans and the Democrat governor of Louisiana - both of whom exhibited criminal negligence during that disaster.

Instant Karma will always get ya, unless you have the state-sponsored media defending your every move.

But wait, oh snap, the liberal columnist in the Carroll County Times just recently explained that the BP Gulf oil disaster is all Bush's fault. Who knew?
