Birdie's Café: has WestminsterMD's Main Street percolating once again
Hi Folks,
Sherri Hosfeld Joseph, the owner of Birdie’s Café at 233 East Main Street, asked me to invite you to her grand opening celebration tomorrow, beginning at 6 pm.
Join Sherri and the Birdie’s crew for music by Ellen Cherry, coffee tastings, samples of their food and baked goods, and more.
Colonial East Main StreetWestminster is reflected in the window of the front door at the new coffee shop, Birdie’s Café, which just opened at 233 East Main Street.
To the delight of many a Main Street Westminster caffeine addict, Sherri Hosfeld Joseph opened a coffee shop - Birdie’s Café www.birdiescoffee.com on July 13, 2010.
Joseph, a professional artist, designer, and photographer, was able to utilize much of the fixtures and equipment left behind almost two-years ago, however, she has worked since last January meticulously cleaning, painting, and planning and researching every detail for the shop with co-workers Danes Menges and Emily White
… local artists Susan Williamson and Becki Maurio seated at the table…
Customers Alex Stamm and Jenna Winegar, NorthCarrollHigh School graduates from Hampstead, were more than happy to take a break from their computer and answer a few questions.
The Buzz, in the Green Valley Shopping Center, recently celebrated its one-year anniversary, and the owners show no signs of slowing down. Offering an assortment of freshly baked treats, breakfast, lunch, coffee drinks and ice cream, The Buzz has developed a large, local following in southern Frederick County and is becoming a popular meeting... http://www.towncourier.com/urbana/2010/07/28/the-buzz-turns-one/
“Thursday evening at the Souvlaki counter” 201 College Avenue, Blacksburg, VA, Home of Virginia Tech. April 29, 2010 by Kevin Dayhoff [20100429 Souvlaki counter5]

Mike Buchanan, owner.
According to the website, http://eatsouvlaki.com/, “Souvlaki opened for business in the fall of 1982. The original location was across the street on Draper Road. Souvlaki was associated with the original Greek's Restaurant, established in 1920 by the late Nick Kappas. Throughout the years the family has owned and operated four restaurants in the town of Blacksburg. While some continue under different management, Souvlaki still remains with the original family.”
On our way to Key West on Saturday, February 6, 2010, we waited until we were on our way on the Route 1, known as “The Overseas Highway,” before we looked for a local place to eat.
The Overseas Highway connect 29 of the 200 islands we know as the archipelago, the Florida Keys.
The route was originally established as a railroad built by Henry Flagler. A horrific hurricane struck the Keys on September 2, 1935 and irreparably wrecked the railroad.
The railroad was replaced with the Overseas Highway for automobile traffic, which opened in 1938.
We found the Green Turtle Inn after traveling about 20 miles and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.
According to the web site for the restaurant, http://www.greenturtlekeys.com/: “Green Turtle Inn Restaurant / We have been a Keys tradition since 1947 / Located at MM 81.5 Islamorada, Florida Keys / Phone: 305-664-2006 / Email: info@greenturtlekeys.com.”
Appetite for history and cuisine both satisfied in Union Bridge EAGLE ARCHIVE By Kevin Dayhoff Posted 8/23/09 Recently I have had the opportunity to travel several times to the western reaches of our fare county and one of my favorite destinations, Union Bridge. It's a great drive through the beautiful Carroll countryside, and once you arrive in Union Bridge you find yourself in a community steeped in tradition and history. It's always fun to take a walk on its historic Main Street, lined with older homes, and eat at the Buttersburg Inn. http://explorecarroll.com/community/3324/eaglearchive/
In a quaint small town in northern Carroll County, Silver Run, happens to be the home of one Carroll County’s elegant fine dining experiences, “Bud’s of Silver Run.” (For more about “Bud’s at Silver Run,” call them at 410-346-6816 or visit them at http://www.budsatsilverrun.com/.)
Silver Run is about eight miles north of Westminster and perhaps 20 miles south of Gettysburg, on Littlestown Pike. You will find it nestled perfectly in our county’s beautiful countryside. It is a little town that looks so pretty, you’d think that Disney or a movie production company built it.
However, it’s real. Apparently I’m not the only fan of Silver Run and Bud’s; it seems that many folks have already discovered the place. Not only was the restaurant full the evening I went, but we recognized many familiar faces there.

Of course, truth be told, history is only one reason for my love of Union Bridge. Eating is another.
