Even die-hard Bill Clinton fans had to have been a little creeped out by Chris Matthews' overly-fawning docu-special, "President of the World: The Bill Clinton Phenomenon." While the former president's humanitarian efforts and his diplomatic reach are undeniably critical, even inspiring, with Matthews playing Clinton's personal hype man, town crier and super fan all rolled into one, it's kind of hard to focus on the message and not the messenger. But that got us thinking. What would this special have been called had it been created for another network? Surely, Fox News, VH1, and Nickelodeon would have come up with a title that expressed their particular point of view just as resoundingly...  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/22/bill-clinton-documentary-_n_826373.html?utm_campaign=022211&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Alert-comedy&utm_content=FullStory&utm_term=Comedy+Brief#s243838&title=Fox_News_Presents

EDITORIAL: Welfare for public radio

It’s time to pull the plug on NPR subsidy

The Washington Times 4:48 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/feb/16/welfare-public-radio/

National Public Radio’s President and CEO Vivian Schiller simply gushed over President Obama’s proposed budget that preserved the funding for public broadcasting that House Republicans would just as soon cut. In expressing her gratitude to the White House, Ms. Schiller helped Republicans make their case.

Last week, House Republicans formally proposed zeroing out the $531 million federal subsidy for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), much of which is used to fund NPR stations and programming. Mr. Obama countered in his budget proposal with proposed increases in CPB funding out to 2014. NPR rushed out a statement praising the “vote of confidence” from the Obama administration, claiming that “public broadcasting is providing an essential service by informing and educating 170 million Americans every month,” a mission they claim “is more relevant than ever.”

Ms. Schiller’s love letter to the very partisan, extremely leftist Obama administration only served to reinforce the argument against such funding. NPR has faced growing criticism for a shocking level of bias in its news operations. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/feb/16/welfare-public-radio/

HEALTH
Social scientists say three things matter for success in life: IQ, family's socioeconomic status and one thing that's easy to influence: self-control. A child's self-control in preschool helps predict possible health, substance abuse and financial problems later in life, researchers found.
YOUR MONEY
In the face of a persistent gender pay gap, researchers are focusing on this: Women don't askfor more money. When they try, it often backfires. A series of new efforts seek to coach women on the art of successful negotiating. There's even a Girl Scout badge to encourage girls to ask for more.

Why Isn't Wall Street in Jail?

Financial crooks brought down the world's economy — but the feds are doing more to protect them than to prosecute them

Over drinks at a bar on a dreary, snowy night in Washington this past month, a former Senate investigator laughed as he polished off his beer.
"Everything's fucked up, and nobody goes to jail," he said. "That's your whole story right there. Hell, you don't even have to write the rest of it. Just write that."
I put down my notebook. "Just that?"
"That's right," he said, signaling to the waitress for the check. "Everything's fucked up, and nobody goes to jail. You can end the piece right there."
Nobody goes to jail. This is the mantra of the financial-crisis era, one that saw virtually every major bank and financial company on Wall Street embroiled in obscene criminal scandals that impoverished millions and collectively destroyed hundreds of billions, in fact, trillions of dollars of the world's wealth — and nobody went to jail. Nobody, that is, except Bernie Madoff, a flamboyant and pathological celebrity con artist, whose victims happened to be other rich and famous people...  http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/why-isnt-wall-street-in-jail-20110216

Open Letter to Westboro Baptist Church FROM ANONYMOUS

In a warning posted by “Anonymous,” the anti-gay, fundamentalist church known as the Westboro Baptist Church, led by Rev. Fred Phelps, was put on notice to “Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites” or “the damage incurred will be irreversible,” and that “neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover…”

++++++++

AN OPEN LETTER FROM ANONYMOUS http://anonnews.org/?p=home

TO THE CONGREGANTS OF WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH:

We, the collective super-consciousness known as ANONYMOUS - the Voice of Free Speech & the Advocate of the People - have long heard you issue your venomous statements of hatred, and we have witnessed your flagrant and absurd displays of inimitable bigotry and intolerant fanaticism. We have always regarded you and your ilk as an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots, however benign, who act out for the sake of attention & in the name of religion.

Being such aggressive proponents for the Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Information as we are, we have hitherto allowed you to continue preaching your benighted gospel of hatred and your theatrical exhibitions of, not only your fascist views, but your utter lack of Christ-like attributes. You have condemned the men and women who serve, fight, and perish in the armed forces of your nation; you have prayed for and celebrated the deaths of young children, who are without fault; you have stood outside the United States National Holocaust Museum, condemning the men, women, and children who, despite their innocence, were annihilated by a tyrannical embodiment of fascism and unsubstantiated repugnance. Rather than allowing the deceased some degree of peace and respect, you instead choose to torment, harass, and assault those who grieve.

Your demonstrations and your unrelenting cascade of disparaging slurs, unfounded judgments, and prejudicial innuendos, which apparently apply to every individual numbered amongst the race of Man - except for yourselves - has frequently crossed the line which separates Freedom of Speech from deliberately utilizing the same tactics and methods of intimidation and mental & emotional abuse that have been previously exploited and employed by tyrants and dictators, fascists and terrorist organizations throughout history.

ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites.

Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover. It is in your best interest to comply now, while the option to do so is still being offered, because we will not relent until you cease the conduction & promotion of all your bigoted operations & doctrines.

The warning has been given. What happens from here shall be determined by you.

WE ARE ANONYMOUS.
WE ARE LEGION.
WE DO NOT FORGIVE.
WE DO NOT FORGET.
EXPECT US.
