Grow up with Postum. Three easy ways to better living. Avoid tomorrow’s caffeine habit – give him Postum with milk today.

I remember Postum well. But the idea of using Postum as a child, in an attempt to stave-off a coffee addiction later in life, did not work very well for me.

Food for the soul and a late summer diet. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

Food for the soul and a late summer diet. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

After eating my way through several weeks on the road, vacation, and Carroll Co. 4H FFA Fair week; I may never be allowed to eat again. So after church I asked Caroline what we were doing for lunch? I was thinking maybe IHOP? C suggested something along the lines of nuts, berries, twigs, and mulch.

After more discussion about the sermon and the service we decided that we might only be allowed to eat the bulletin. Never mind the dioxin content. So this week we are beginning a new tradition of having the church bulletin for lunch after church. We will research the nutritional values at a later date. Spiritually, it is quite fulfilling. And no definitive determination as to the caloric content of the meal.

Here we are going through some trials as what might be the best condiment. For today we made a concession, and are simply eating the bulletin in a salad.

"Inclined to Recline," in the June-July 2016 edition of AARP The Magazine

Fri. July 29, 2016.

I found this brief article, "Inclined to Recline," in the June-July 2016 edition of AARP The Magazine. It was written by Samaria Brown, AARP Travel Expert, in a column, 'My Travel Tips.'

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10208307945709857&id=1040426835

I have written about this before, at great length - many-many years ago. Flying is quite difficult and certainly not showing any signs of getting better. If anything, it is getting worse.

Writing about all the challenges of flying these days is beyond my patience keyboarding with my thumbs on my phone, but first among equals among the unforced - fixable problems flying are the reclining seats.

After countless incidents why do airlines still have reclining seat on planes? Many articles about the problem suggest that you say politely something to the person who has totally reclined into your personal space, but I have learned the hard way not to bother because this rude behavior is often perpetrated by sociopaths. I just zen it.

The Freedmen's Colony of Roanoke Island 1862 – 1867 http://www.roanokefreedmenscolony.com/

Wed. July 27, 2016

During the Civil War, Union-occupied Roanoke Island, which lies between the North Carolina mainland and the barrier islands known as the Outer Banks, became home to thousands of former slaves. Initially these refugees settled near the Union headquarters, creating a community that included churches and a school. In the spring of 1863, this camp evolved into a government-sanctioned colony. Major General John G. Foster, Commander of the 18th Army Corps, ordered Horace James, a Congregational minister from New England who was serving as a chaplain in the Union army, to establish a colony of former slaves on the island. Although the Roanoke Island freedmen's colony was an experiment of national significance, few people are aware of its history. This site presents an introduction to the colony and the colonial experiment that was conducted there. It also features some primary sources, maps, and projects for students…

Please join me in a quick prayer for the fallen heroes in Dallas TX

Please join me in a quick prayer for the fallen heroes in Dallas TX

July 8th, 2016 Kevin Dayhoff

Being a police, fire fighter, and EMS chaplain just got even harder. Feeling pretty numb – or is that depressed as in anger without the emotions. We are hurting and our hearts are broken. #bluelivesmatter

Please join me in a quick prayer.

May those responsible for the shameless cowardly attacks on the Dallas police officers Thursday evening, July 7, 2016, be brought to justice quickly and may they greatly suffer the consequences of their actions.

May the fallen rest in peace, we’ll take it from here.

May the wounded quickly recover, we pray for healing graces.

May the truth be revealed about the national events that precipitated the recent demonstrations. I believe in redemption. I do not want folks who break the law and resist arrest – with a 20-year rap sheet of violent crimes and weapons violations, to die. I just want them to change for the better - - and I want everyone to come home safe to their families at the end of the day, black and white, red and blue...

May all brothers and sisters in blue and red stay safe.

Our great nation yearns for responsible leadership. May the madness stop.

May we all watch each other’s back. Sometimes there is justice and all too often there is just us.

Amen – I’ll be in the area all day. Semper Fi. July 8, 2016

Westminster Co-op grocery receipt from July 29, 1998.

The Westminster Co-Op began in the late 1930s as a result of discussions involving the Rinehart family, Farm Bureau, and the Grange.

According to information provided by the Co-op many years ago, “by the end of 1947, the Co-Op had 347 members…”

My family, the Wright family, were members, if not founding members.

In 1948, the store moved from Main Street to a brand new large facility in what we know today as Locust Lane – where Paradiso’s carry-out facility is now located. An article in the Democratic Advocate read: “New Co-Op Store A Credit To City - Located Opposite Parking Grounds - Committees Assisting Manager For Official Opening Oct. 7th.— A group of customers representing a cross section of Westminster and Carroll County consumers met at the new Co-op Store on Tuesday night to help the manager select the merchandise for the new store.

"They brought lists of can sizes, types of packages, variety of brands of food and household items they wish the store to carry in order that the New Co-op Market at 8 Locust street, may meet their complete household needs. ‘The Co-op which necessarily has limited its variety of goods until now,’ said Bob Burk, the manager of the new market, ‘will have a new look.’

"We shall attempt to sell all the kinds of goods that our customers may need which are consistent with the quality standards for which the Co-op is known. "Democratic Advocate, October 1, 1948."
