Wow, do I wish I had written that, but I didn’t and I haven’t a clue as to who to credit…

Anyway, where was I? Oh - - a bit of an explanation as to why I have two blogs on blogger. Last September 27, 2006 – this blog: www.kevindayhoff.com – froze-up on me.

I immediately started a new blog on what was known at the time as “blogger beta.” That blog is “Kevin Dayhoff – Soundtrack Division of Old Silent Movies,” and it has two URLs: http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/ or www.kevindayhoff.net

On December 20th, 2006 I managed to be able to “reconfigure,” for lack of a better was of explaining it, both blogs into the “New Blogger” platform and that unfroze this blog www.kevindayhoff.com.

I now use it as my storage closet…

In connection with the tragic death of Isaiah Simmons III, the Bowling Brook Preparatory School continues to cooperate fully with local and state investigators.

Since its inception in 1957, Bowling Brook has had a stellar record of safety and achievement in providing for the needs of chronic and serious juvenile offenders. Bowling Brook has a long-standing tradition and commitment to providing quality residential and educational services to male adolescents in a challenging, safe and humane environment that is conducive to learning.

We believe that the investigation will reveal that Bowling Brook's procedures were appropriate, that our staff acted in accordance with our procedures and in a manner consistent with Maryland law.

Bowling Brook has an extensive training program for all staff that meets or exceeds the requirements of Maryland law, including the use of physical restraints. While state regulations require only a high school education, the vast majority of our staff has earned four-year college degrees. The staff involved in the incident was senior staff of the highest caliber with advanced training.

The Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) verifies Bowling Brook's compliance with all state law every two years via licensing certification, most recently in March, 2006. DJS also conducts periodic on-site reviews, the most recent of which was conducted eleven days before the incident on January 23, 2007. DJS raised no concerns during its January 12, 2007 visit.

It has been reported that Bowling Brook staff restrains students by sitting or kneeling on the head or torso. Bowling Brook categorically denies these assertions. Bowling Brook maintains that it is never appropriate to sit or kneel on a student's head or torso. Bowling Brook believes that the investigation of this incident will reveal that no member of our staff sat or kneeled on the head or torso of Isaiah Simmons.

In compliance with Maryland law, Bowling Brook reports all incidents in which it restrains a student. There has never been a concern raised by a student, a student's family, DJS, or any other agency regarding our practices.

I just received this in an e-mail and it is way too funny to not post. Be prepared to chuckle. What a great way to begin the day.

As a young minister, I was asked by funeral director to hold a graveside service for a homeless man, with no family or friends.

The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country and this man would be the first to be laid there.

I was not familiar with the backwoods area.

I became lost and arrived an hour late.

I saw the backhoe &the crew who were eating lunch but the hearse was nowhere in sight.

I apologized to the workers for my tardiness & stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the vault lid already in place.

I assured the workers that I would not hold them up for long but this was the proper thing to do.

The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I poured out my heart & soul.

As I preached the workers began to say "Amen," "Praise the Lord," and "Glory," I preached & preached like I'd never preached before ... from Genesis all the way to Revelations.

I closed the lengthy service with a prayer & walked to my car.

As I was opening the door &taking off my coat, I overhead one of the workers saying to another, "I ain't never seen anything like that before, and I have been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

Recently WETA announced that it was returning to an all classical music format. (Click here for more information…) This created some concern and interest as to whether or not there would be any changes in the programming at the radio station at American University – WAMU.

Yes, dear reader, be gentle - but I am addicted to “public radio.” Yes, it is quite liberal (make that profoundly liberal) – to a fault; but for a rabid news and information junkie like me, its, well - news and information.

To be certain, one must balance the information by switching the dial to WCBM and WBAL – and for me, to really mix it up; I like to listen to WYPR in Baltimore.

Grazing through WAMU’s website, I came across the following note:

A Message to Our Listeners

As you might imagine, we're receiving lots of questions right now from folks like you -- public radio listeners who are wondering what WAMU 88.5 will be changing, if anything, in light of current changes in the Washington, D.C., area radio landscape. I have some updates I'd like to share with you.

Downloadable Schedule

A downloadable (PDF, 62KB) version of our schedule is available.

Starting Saturday, Jan. 27, we'll begin airing A Prairie Home Companion from 6-8 p.m. Hot Jazz Saturday Night will follow from 8-11 p.m.

We're also making several changes to the Saturday schedule:

Weekend Edition Saturday moves to 8 a.m., and Car Talk will follow at 10 a.m.

Studio 360 moves to 1 p.m., followed by The Splendid Table at 2 p.m., Marketplace Money at 3 p.m., On the Media at 4 p.m., and Weekend All Things Considered at 5 p.m.

Weekdays beginning Monday, Jan. 29, we'll start the morning with The BBC World News Update at 5 a.m. Morning Edition now will run from 6-10 a.m. In the afternoons, the BBC Newshour will air at 4 p.m., followed by All Things Considered from 5-6:30 p.m., Marketplace at 6:30 p.m., and All Things Considered from 7-8 p.m.

Weekday evenings, Mondays-Thursdays, we'll air The World at 8 p.m., and On Point at 9 p.m. Friday evenings, you can still hear The DC Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta at 8 p.m., followed by the entire "Friday News Roundup" from The Diane Rehm Show, 9-11 p.m.

Moving into the wee hours, we're bringing Fair Game with Faith Salie to WAMU 88.5 at 1 a.m., followed by News and Notes at 2 a.m., and re-broadcasts from The Kojo Nnamdi Show and The Diane Rehm Show at 3 and 4 a.m.

Some of you may still have questions about different shows that you would like us to carry. We'll continue to evaluate our programming over the next few months, and as always, we'll release any information about additional changes as soon as we have them available.

I wish our colleagues at WETA-FM great success with their return to classical music. WAMU 88.5's focus will not change -- to be the public radio listener's source for news and information in the Washington, D.C., metro area, and to showcase the best of traditional American music.

O'Malley FY 2008 Budget Good for Maryland Agriculture

Triples Funding to MARBIDCO, Supports Cover Crop Programs

ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 30, 2007) – Governor Martin O'Malley today renewed his commitment to support Maryland farmers by tripling funding for Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation (MARBIDCO) and supporting cover crop programs.

“As a state, Maryland must do more to keep our farmers competitive. To that end, I have proposed tripling funding to MARBIDCO to support new farmers and help rural businesses,” said Governor O'Malley.

By tripling MARBIDCO funding to $3 million, O'Malley will support young farmers who are trying to buy or lease farmland, and start-up enterprises that need help with rural business financing. In addition, Governor O'Malley is committed to helping farmers statewide enhance their profitability by marketing Maryland's agricultural-based economy and encouraging Marylanders to buy local farm products.

“My administration will support farmers by enhancing profitability, ensuring an adequate base of farmland, and marketing Maryland's agriculture, including a plan to encourage Marylanders to buy local farm products,” said Governor O'Malley.

Under the O'Malley-Brown administration, two initiatives will play a critical role in determining the future of Maryland agriculture: the Statewide Plan for Agricultural Policy and Resource Management, and HB 2, the Agricultural Stewardship Act.

The Statewide Plan is a superb model for agricultural policy. Its main recommendations center on three areas:

Enhancing profitability;

Ensuring an adequate base of well-managed agricultural land; and

Advancing research, education, and the advocacy of agriculture.

The O'Malley-Brown administration will work to implement the thirty recommendations contained in the report, including an aggressive marketing plan to encourage Marylanders to buy local farm products.

Similarly, Governor O'Malley will seek to carry out the mandates of HB 2, one of the most far reaching and forward looking agricultural reform bills to pass the General Assembly in decades.

“Long before environmental stewardship was fashionable, Maryland's farmers dutifully protected our land. I will continue to support cover crop programs and stand with farmers as they take the responsible steps to protect the Chesapeake Bay from agricultural runoff,” noted Governor O'Malley.

Farmers were Maryland's first environmentalists, but a changing economy has forced farmers to choose between profits and preserving the environment. Governor O'Malley will work to continue funding for cover crop programs, so that we can support Maryland's first environmentalists. O'Malley has proposed almost $9 million in his first budget for cover crop programs.

ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 24, 2007) - Governor O’Malley released the following statement today on the death of a student at the private Bowling Brook Preparatory Academy last night.

“Last night’s death at Bowling Brook Preparatory Academy is a horrible tragedy, and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young man. Earlier today, I spoke to the family and expressed my condolences.”

“Children in state custody should be safe from harm, and last night’s death reminds us of the work that needs to be done to reform our Department of Juvenile Services.”

“My Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff visited Bowling Brook very early this morning, immediately after the incident was reported. They have directed DJS personnel and the Maryland State Police to work with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department as it continues its investigation into this tragedy.”

The story below was pasted from an e-mail. I have not a clue as to whether or not the story is true – or not true.

However it is illustrative of my view that Senator Hillary Clinton will say whatever it takes to win the presidency…

Two weeks ago in up state New York, Senator Hillary Clinton was
invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation.

She spoke for almost an hour on her future plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living, should she one day become the first female President.

She referred to her career as a New York Senator, how she had signed "YES" for every Indian issue that came to her desk for approval. Although the Senator was vague on the details of her plan, she seemed most enthusiastic about her future ideas for helping her "red sisters and brothers."

At the conclusion of her speech, the Tribes presented the Senator with a plaque inscribed with her new Indian name - Walking Eagle.

The proud Senator then departed in her motorcade, waving to the crowds. A news reporter later inquired of the group of chiefs of how they had come to select the new name given to the Senator.

They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of (crap) it can no longer fly.
