Tribune Co. creditors court Michael Eisner and Jeff Shell for top jobs

Tribune Co. creditors court Michael Eisner and Jeff Shell for top jobs

August 25, 2010

Former Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Michael D. Eisner is in discussions that could lead to his return to the media spotlight – as chairman of the now-bankrupt Tribune Co.
The media company’s largest creditors are having preliminary conversations with prospective candidates who could operate Tribune once it emerges from bankruptcy, according to several people with knowledge of the situation.
Eisner, who has been dabbling in the digital world as an investor since stepping down from Disney in 2005, is among the candidates under consideration to replace Chicago real estate magnate Sam Zell as chairman of the reorganized company.
Discussions about new management at Tribune are still exploratory, people close to one of the creditors cautioned. Senior creditors can’t make changes until a plan is in place allowing the company to emerge from its nearly two-year legal morass.
Tribune owns the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, KTLA-TV Channel 5 and 22 other TV stations and six newspapers.
Under one scenario being discussed by the senior creditors, Eisner, who is 68, would be joined by Jeff Shell, a former News Corp. cable executive who is now in top management at Comcast Corp., according to four people with knowledge of the talks. Shell would become chief executive of Tribune, replacing Randy Michaels.
Eisner was unavailable for comment, according to his spokeswoman. But he told Variety in a wide-ranging interview Monday that he has been accumulating Tribune debt. “You are talking to somebody who is buying debt in the Tribune Co. The salvation of the newspaper is some kind of pay arrangement [online], which will evolve into something significant,” Eisner said in the interview.
Shell, 44, a Los Angeles native who runs Comcast’s cable channels group from the company’s headquarters in Philadelphia, declined to comment. Earlier in his career, Shell worked for Disney on the strategic planning staff when Eisner ran the company.
Tribune and its creditors are still struggling to negotiate a settlement around charges that Zell’s 2007 leveraged buyout was a case of "fraudulent conveyance," meaning the transaction rendered the company insolvent from Day One. That settlement would serve as the basis for a plan of reorganization, but depending on how negotiations go, it could be months in coming or the case could easily devolve into litigation...  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2010/08/hold.html

The Hill: Plouffe - At least 70 House seats in play

At least 70 House seats in play, says Obama's campaign adviser

By Michael O'Brien - 09/07/10 02:21 PM ET

President Obama's top political guru said Tuesday that he believes 70 House races and 15 Senate races are in play this fall.

White House senior adviser David Plouffe — Obama's 2008 presidential campaign manager — said that a bevy of races were in play, from the national to local level.

"There are a lot of competitive races out there. There's going to be at least 70 House races in play, about 15 competitive Senate races, a couple dozen tough gubernatorial races," he said in a video to supporters of Organizing for America, the president's political arm.

Plouffe painted a picture of a dire electoral landscape in which, if Democrats were to lose the majority of those races, their losses would be massive…

Four Years of Lefty Spin from Couric as 'Evening News' Anchor

Profile in Bias: Four Years of Katie Couric's Liberal Spin as 'CBS Evening News' Anchor

Tuesday marks the four-year anniversary of Katie Couric's assumption of the anchor chair for the CBS Evening News on Tuesday, September 5, 2006. To commemorate the occasion, the Media Research Center has assembled <Perking Up for Liberal Spin, a profile in bias of Couric's top forty biased quotes from her four years at CBS.

Marking her one-year anniversary, a September 2007 MRC Media Reality Check, New Network, Same Old Biased Katie, noted: "In her first year at the helm of the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric has perpetuated the bias problem that eroded CBS's credibility under Dan Rather." The three years that followed were no exception, as Couric actively promoted liberal figures and causes, while disparaging conservatives. From cheering on Barack Obama's campaign and presidential agenda to smearing Arizona's immigration law or opposition to the Ground Zero mosque, she has maintained her long journalistic record of liberal slant.

Couric's biased reporting has not been a hit with the broadcast's shrinking audience, during the week of August 16, 2010, the network news program tied it's all-time ratings low, slipping below five million viewers.
Follow the link for some bias highlights from Couric's four years behind the anchor desk.

Bozell: Congratulations to ABC News on Departure of President David Westin

Congratulations, ABC News! You are now free from the 14-year reign of the news president that helped drive your ratings into the ground.
Under his leadership, Westin continually promoted some of the most liberally biased reporters in news, including George Stephanopoulos, Diane Sawyer, Christine Amanpour and Bill Weir.  He hired an Obama donor as ABC’s new Senior Medical Editor in the midst of the healthcare debate and ignored the 83,000 Americans who petitioned him to ensure that ABC reported the truth about Obama’s government takeover of healthcare. Westin neglected to address the obvious conflict of interest in George Stephanopoulos’ daily strategy phone call with Rahm Emanuel, and failed to keep his promise that ABC News would offer ‘objective’ reporting on the War on Terror in 2003. He even had the gall to suggest that the Pentagon was a legitimate terrorism target in the wake of September 11th. Two years later, he banned any ABC News personnel from wearing a patriotic flag lapel pin.
ABC should seize the opportunity to replace Westin with a president who will deliver what the American people want and deserve – real journalism. It’s ABC’s only glimmer of hope for surviving in the news industry.

NPR Compares Palin, Gingrich to Historic Anti-Semites, Sympathizes with Former CAIR Publicist

National Public Radio is strongly urging America to get over its apparently rabid case of Islamophobia. On Sunday night's All Things Considered newscast, anchor Guy Raz played audio clips of Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin opposing the Ground Zero Mosque, and then launched into how much this resembles historic anti-Semitism:
In his column today, New York Times writer Nicholas Kristof points out that in 1940, 17 percent of the population considered Jews to be a menace to America. Almost every ethnic group in this country has gone through a period of transition when they had to fight to prove that, indeed, they were Americans.
Rabiah Ahmed and a group of Muslim leaders thought their community had to do the same today. So this week, they launched an online video campaign called "My Faith, My Voice."
What Raz does not point out is that Rabiah Ahmed is a former publicist and prominent national spokesperson for the Council for Islamic-American Relations (CAIR), a group named as an un-indicted co-conspirator in a terrorist funding case. Raz didn't so much conduct a news interview with Rabiah Ahmed as much as he joined her in condemning the sad and bigoted state of America today.

can i just make this clear one more time

Can I just make this clear one more time.

A LOT = VERY MUCH

YOUR = BELONGING TO YOU; OF YOU

YOU’RE = YOU ARE

THEIR = BELONGING TO THEM

THEY’RE = THEY ARE

THERE = THAT PLACE; A LOCATION OTHER THAN HERE

TOO = IN EXCESS, ALSO

TWO = THE NUMBER THAT FOLLOWS ONE AND PRECEDES THREE

TO = MOTION OR DIRECTION TOWARD A POINT

If you don’t know what TWO is, you need to be shot.

WHERE = a question of geographical location. — WHERE are your keys?

WERE = past tense. you found your keys? — where WERE they?

WE’RE = we are. — now that you found your keys, we’re going to go for a drive.

THEN = indicates a specific point in time. — I walked the dog, and THEN I gave him a bath.

THAN = indicates a degree of separation. — Johnny is fast, but Jack can run faster THAN Johnny.

BEAR = the large, omnivorous mammal, OR, “the pain is more than I can BEAR.”

BARE = being naked, or empty. — It is a wish of mine to see Megan Fox on my bed, bare.

Oh, and when you’re leaving a comment saying that someone left you speechless, it’s two “e’s, not “speachless.” There are no peaches in your mouth while you’re talking.. hopefully.

BREATH = one breath. as in “I took a breath before diving in the pool.”

BREATHE = what taking a breath is. — “I had to come up to the surface in order to breathe”

ALSO…  When your leg or arm itches, you are SCRATCHING it, not ITCHING it.  F--k, is it really that hard?

LEFT is this way..  <   RIGHT is this way..  >
