Talking Heads - Mind
Science won’t change you
Looks like I can’t change you
I try to talk to you, to make things clear
but you’re not even listening to me…
And it comes directly from my heart to you…
I need something to change your mind.

Speaker at CCC conference follows historic speculation
By Bob Allen

-- Historian Gabor Boritt, author of "Why the Civil War Came"
In an era of political correctness, author and Civil War historian Lawrence Denton knows he's apt to raise hackles whenever he, figuratively speaking, knocks Abraham Lincoln off his marble pedestal.
Or when he ventures into the realm of what might have been, as prompted by the quote, above, from retired Gettysburg College teacher and historian Gabor Boritt.
"Much of history nowadays is dominated by political correctness," said Denton, a retired educator and administrator who now lives in Oxford.
"My talk is not."
On March 19, at Carroll Community College's annual conference, "Maryland and the Civil War: A Regional Perspective," Denton will talk about the controversial theories he developed in his 2009 book, "William Henry Seward and the Secession Crisis: The Effort to Prevent Civil War.".. http://www.explorecarroll.com/news/5240/might-civil-war-have-been-averted-without-lincoln/

Japan Faces Prospect of Nuclear Catastrophe as Employees Leave Plant
Japan faced the likelihood of a catastrophic nuclear accident
Tuesday morning, as an explosion at the most crippled of
three reactors at the Fukushima Daichi Nuclear Power Station
damaged its crucial steel containment structure, emergency
workers were withdrawn from the plant, and much larger
emissions of radioactive materials appeared imminent,
according to official statements and industry executives
informed about the developments.
Prime Minsiter Naoto Kan of Japan was preparing to make a
televised address to the nation at 11 a.m. Tokyo time.
The sharp deterioration came after government officials said
the containment structure of the No. 2 reactor, the most
seriously damaged of three reactors at the Daichi plant, had
suffered damage during an explosion shorly after 6 a.m. on
Tuesday.

It's Rothschild's circle of friends that offend me
I for one would not make too much of it.
For one thing, we all know that any reference to collective activity is anathema to our resident Mountain Man; he scorns any hint of overly social collaboration, is the champion of the rugged individualist, espousing that one should achieve nervana by one's own wits and deft skills.
Secondly, it would be the ultimate hypocrisy for me, of all people, to chastise another for a salty vocabulary... http://www.deanminnich.com/2011/03/its-rothschilds-circle-of-friends-that.html

47% Say Daylight Saving Time Is Not Worth the Hassle
Americans will lose an hour of sleep tonight in exchange for another hour of afternoon daylight, but nearly half don’t think the extra daylight is worth it.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 47% of American Adults do not think Daylight Saving Time is “worth the hassle,” while 43% disagree. Ten percent (10%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
This is nearly identical to findings from November and last March when Daylight Saving Time last ended and began... http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/lifestyle/general_lifestyle/march_2011/47_say_daylight_saving_time_is_not_worth_the_hassle
