Foreign Policy: Amanda Thatcher delivered a reading from Ephesians 6: 10-18 at Margaret Thatcher's funeral

At the funeral, Margaret's granddaughter, delivered a reading from Ephesians 6: 10-18 that has the British media agog… http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2013/04/17/the_texan_who_stole_the_show_at_margaret_thatchers_funeral

“… it was a 19-year-old Texan who stole the show from the deceased Iron Lady.

With poise reminiscent of the elder Thatcher, Amanda Thatcher, Margaret's granddaughter, delivered a reading from Epistles that has the British media agog. Amanda, who lives with her mother in Texas, chose a rather militant passage that calls on believers to "put on the whole armour of God…”

It was a great read...

“Amanda now lives in Texas with her mother, stepfather, and brother Michael. She is reportedly deeply religious, has carried out missionary work in China, and attends the University of Richmond in Virginia.

"Poised, eloquent, the descendant of conservative royalty, evangelical Christian, and Texas-bred: It all seems to add up to a promising political future. She certainly hit it out of the park in her introduction to the world, and isn't it pretty easy to picture a clip of Amanda's speech at her grandmother's funeral playing a role in a future campaign commercial?

What a great Bible passage... Ephesians 6:10-18

New King James Version (NKJV)

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— Ephesians 6: 10-18

Tragedy Strikes at Heart of America http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=5730 Kevin E. Dayhoff April 17, 2013

The cheers of joy and excitement quickly turned to screams of terror on Monday at 2:50 in the afternoon when an act of senseless horror shattered the 117th running of the Boston Marathon, arguable the world’s oldest and most prestigious endurance foot race.

The marathon is traditionally held on Patriots Day in Boston and the holiday had blossomed into a beautiful spring day. The Massachusetts state holiday “commemorates the first battles of the American Revolution in 1775.”

The Boston Marathon brings-out approximately 500,000 spectators and visitors to the city for what can be described as Christmas and New Year’s Eve all rolled into one.

The bombs shattered the celebrations of the runners, families, and spectators- and once again, shook us to our core. The heinous act served as an unwelcome reminder that no one is safe anywhere in a world where senseless acts of violence are perpetrated upon the innocent to promote a political or ideological agenda… http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=5730

The Republican Study Committee: RSC Update Tax Day & Obama's Budget

April 15, 2013
The Republican Study Committee: RSC Update Tax Day & Obama's Budget

From the Chairman
Jennifer and I offer our prayers to those impacted by the Boston Marathon bombing today. Trying times test our resolve as Americans.  There is no place in our free society for such an act of violence, and we will not waver in our commitment to liberty and justice.  Those responsible for this horrific attack will be held accountable.

Tax Day

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the federal income tax.  Since its inception in 1913, the income tax has continued to grow in scope and complexity.  A century later, hardworking American taxpayers will send the federal government $2.7 trillion this year alone.

While Americans across the country file their returns and open their checkbooks to pay their taxes today, the President and his liberal lieutenants in the Senate continue to call for another trillion dollars in higher job-killing taxes over the next ten years. It's hard for President Obama to make the case that you don't pay enough in taxes when this year's $2.7 trillion marks the all-time record for the most money the federal government has ever taken in!  Even after adjusting for inflation, this year’s revenue has only been eclipsed four times in our nation’s history. Washington clearly has a serious spending problem, and you can only solve it by controlling Washington spending rather than President Obama's scheme to have the IRS take more of your hard-earned money through even higher taxes.

Obama Finally Presents Budget

Last week the President sent Congress a budget, that includes over $1 trillion in new taxes, over $8 trillion in new debt, and yet NEVER balances.

While our national debt is approaching $17 trillion, our President and his liberal lieutenants continue to ask for additional taxes so they can keep spending more and living beyond their means.  The President got the higher taxes he wanted in the "fiscal cliff" deal, but yet he still refuses to agree to any spending cuts.  More wasteful Washington spending, radical regulations, and costly duplication are not what the American people want or deserve, and that failed agenda is still holding the American economy back.

The Obama administration refuses to take common-sense steps to rein in Washington spending, while continuing to grow failed welfare programs that jeopardize the future of our country.  Republicans have passed a plan that would balance our nation's budget in ten years by growing the economy with no tax increases, while the President’s budget raises taxes, increases radical regulations, and never achieves balance. This is truly a choice of two completely different directions for our country.

Increased spending and continually high unemployment numbers should not be accepted as the "new normal”.  It is time to for the President to abandon his failed tax, regulate, and spend agenda and finally start working with us to grow the economy, control spending, and balance the federal budget.

God Bless,
Steve Scalise

MRC Alert: Shameful: NY Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof Links Boston Explosion to GOP, Others Pile On

Tracking Liberal Media Bias Since 1996
Tuesday April 16, 2013 @ 09:15 AM ET

1. Shameful: New York Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof Links Boston Explosion to GOP, Others Pile On
Never let a tragedy go to waste. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof on Monday quickly used the explosions in Boston for political gain, linking the Republican Party to the horrific act. At 4:10pm, Kristof tweeted, "explosion is a reminder that ATF needs a director. Shame on Senate Republicans for blocking apptment." Kristof then tweeted a link to a Washington Post story about Senator Charles Grassley questioning the fitness of Obama's Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms nominee. Kristof's comments earned a rebuke from the liberal Politico. Dylan Byers reported, "Kristof's tweet earned a number of responses expressing either anger or bafflement."

2. Chris Matthews: 'Normally' Domestic Terrorists 'Tend to Be on the Far Right'
Just hours after explosions rocked the Boston Marathon on Monday, Chris Matthews speculated, "Normally domestic terrorists, people, tend to be on the far right." He then reconsidered and suggested, "...That’s not a good category, just extremists, let’s call them that." During live coverage, the Hardball host highlighted a possible explosion at John F. Kennedy's presidential library and thought this could be a personal attack on the Democratic Party: "...But going after the Kennedy Library, not something at Bunker Hill, not something from the Freedom Trail or anything that kind of historic, but a modern political figure of the Democratic Party. Does that tell you something?" (Police are now considering the incident at the JFK library to be fire-related.) One can only guess what it tells Chris.

3. CBS Ends Blackout on Gosnell Trial, Spotlights How 'Firestorm' Went 'Viral'; ABC, NBC Still Out to Lunch
CBS finally ended their on-air coverage blackout of the Kermit Gosnell's murder trial on Monday's CBS This Morning, airing two segments on the story a month after opening arguments began. Jan Crawford acknowledged that the Gosnell case "has received little national news coverage". Meanwhile, ABC and NBC's morning and evening newscasts continue to ignore the ongoing legal proceedings against the abortionist. Crawford pointed out how conservatives "accused the media of ignoring the story because what it called a bias in favor of abortion rights", and how those "charges went viral on Twitter". She even played a sound bite from a former attorney for the murder suspect who questioned the national news media's lack of coverage of the trial.

4. NBC Mentions Criticism of Media Censoring Gosnell Abortion Case...On Its Website
While NBC News continued to ignore the trial of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell on its airwaves, an NBCNews.com article posted Saturday made brief mention of the media blackout: "Conservative bloggers, including at RedState and National Review, have lashed out this week at national media organizations for not paying enough attention to the gruesome trial of a Philadelphia abortion provider accused of killing seven late-term fetuses after they were born alive." Careful to use the term "fetuses," rather than "infants" or "children," staff writer Erin McClam did not address the validity of the criticism or acknowledge the fact that her network has refused to give any air time to the trial.

5. ABC Is So Intent on Pushing Gun Control, the Network Twice Played Rival NBC's SNL Parody
ABC has aggressively pushed Barack Obama's gun control scheme in recent weeks. But on Sunday and Monday, the network resorted to playing clips of a rival channel's comedy show, Saturday Night Live. Sunday's World News and Monday's Good Morning America both touted Democratic talking points, lamenting how hard it is to get such legislation passed. On Monday morning, Jon Karl hyped, "Congress is just not eager to enact new gun laws. A fact lampooned on Saturday Night Live." He then featured a clip of comedian Jay Pharoah impersonating Obama. Pharoah mocked, "This week, the Senate voted 68-31 to begin debating the idea of discussing gun control. Let me say that again. They have agreed to think about talking about gun control." On Sunday's World News, reporter Rena Ninan didn't even bother coming up with much of a justification. She simply introduced, "Saturday Night Live, overnight."

6. Harrison Ford Tells NBC's Gregory Obama Doing 'Wonderful Job'; Blames Media for Political Divisiveness
At the end of an interview with actor Harrison Ford for the NBC Meet the Press web-based feature Press Pass, about his role in a new film about Jackie Robinson, host David Gregory turned to politics: "I know you're politically conscious, politically active. What is your view of the state of things, and the state of the President's performance?"  Ford replied: "I think the President is doing, you know, all things considered, a wonderful job." He then blamed the media for political division in country: "I wish that the country were not so fractious as it is at the moment. I blame a lot of that on the press and the news business. And I wish it wasn't so. And I think it makes things very difficult..."

FOXBusiness Obama Unveils 2014 Budget Proposal - By Kathryn Buschman Vasel

Obama Unveils 2014 Budget Proposal

Published April 10, 2013

The budget battle on Capitol Hill heated up Wednesday as President Barack Obama released his budget for fiscal 2014 that aims to find middle ground to progress long-stalled budget negations.

The president's budget includes 215 proposals to cut spending, will raise $680 billion in new tax revenues and reduce future deficits by $600 billion over 10 years. The White House says the president's plan includes $1.8 trillion in deficit reduction, replacing the $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts poised to take effect over the next 10 years.

The budget aims to find middle ground between the dueling parties by including reductions to popular entitlements, which doesn’t sit well with Democrats, as well as Republican-loathed tax increases.

"My budget will reduce our deficits by nearly another 2-trillion dollars so that, all told, we will have surpassed the goal of 4-trillion dollars in deficit reduction that independent economists believe we need to stabilize our finances," the president said in the Rose Garden on Wednesday.

Medicare and Social Security face cuts under the president’s budget, which has drawn criticism from members of his own party…

Eagle Archive: Ralph Condon, 85, retired Carroll County businessman

Eagle Archive: Ralph Condon, 85, retired Carroll County businessman By Kevin E. Dayhoff, April 3, 2013 http://tinyurl.com/c8oqsto

Ralph A. Condon, a Carroll County community leader and businessman, died March 27 at age 85. He was a Navy veteran who served in World War II. He was married to Ava Rakes Condon for 65 years.

Condon was born in Taylorsville on Sept. 28, 1927. In the early 1950s, he began working as an auto mechanic at a shop way off the beaten path on a rutted-dirt road a mile or so off of Manchester Road, Route 27, near the present-day intersection with Route 482.

He subsequently founded Condon's Auto Parts in 1954. The business is currently operated by the third generation of his family.

In 1959, Manchester Road was re-aligned and rebuilt in such a manner that all of the sudden the auto recycling yard was exposed to public view. This was in the days before zoning and for several years, there were no problems.

The operation minded its own business and wasn't bothering anyone, said Condon several years ago in an interview.

But peace and tranquilly came to an end to his once upon a time out of sight business. New folks in the county began to complain, and legal problems with the county started. Never mind he was there first.

In the late 1960s, Condon decided the right thing to do was to move his business farther away from the road – out of sight of the public. That was easier said than done, though. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished… http://www.baltimoresun.com/explore/carroll/neighborhoods/westminster/ph-ce-eagle-archive-0407-20130403,0,5284705.story

New York Times: Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher of Britain Has Died

Margaret Thatcher, a towering, divisive and yet revered figure in British politics, died on Monday of a stroke, her family said. She was 87.
Lady Thatcher had been in poor health for months. She served as prime minister for 11 years, beginning in 1979. She was known as the “Iron Lady,” a stern Conservative who transformed Britain’s way of thinking about its economic and political life, broke union power and opened the way to far greater private ownership.

Just days away from the launch of her first book, “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead,” Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and a group of fellow women entrepreneurs have launched LeanIn.org…

Co-founded by Sandberg, serial entrepreneur Gina Bianchini, Debi Hemmeter and Rachel Thomas, the site will operate as a startup….

The idea goes hand in hand with the major theme of Sandberg’s book, which “contains practical advice for women — and the men who want to help them — on how to lean in and close the gap” between the two, which Sandberg told AllThingsD previously…

In a recent ‘lean in’ story posted on the new website launched by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Google employee number 20, Marissa Mayer weighed on how she decided to accept the position of president and CEO of Yahoo!

No meaningful conversation about the constantly changing dynamics of technology is possible without fully exploring the rising influence of women in leadership positions.

The discussion over the role of women in leadership positions has only increased since the July 2012 essay by Princeton professor Anne-Marie Slaughter, "Why Women Still Can't Have It All," was published in The Atlantic and Ms. Sandberg’s recently released book, “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.”

Getting back to Ms. Mayer; she gave birth to a son last September. Kara Swisher wrote in the publication, “All Things D,” on March 29: “Sandberg and her team have been encouraging women to post their personal stories of when they leaned into their careers and Mayer certainly does that in her post, including discussing taking the job at the top of the troubled Silicon Valley Internet company when she was seven months pregnant…”

Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer Leans In About How She Decided to Become CEO While Pregnant

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer just posted a “lean-in” story on the new site launched by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg in conjunction with her recent book, “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.”

Sandberg and her team have been encouraging women to post their personal stories of when they leaned into their careers and Mayer certainly does that in her post, including discussing taking the job at the top of the troubled Silicon Valley Internet company when she was seven months pregnant….

[…]

Mayer took off from Yahoo only a few weeks after she had her baby son last fall, and she said it has turned out well for her. “I’ve come to realize that being a mother makes me a better executive, because motherhood forces prioritization,” she wrote. “Being a mom gives you so much more clarity on what is important.” … http://allthingsd.com/20130329/yahoos-marissa-mayer-leans-in-about-how-she-became-ceo/
