On April 17, State Senators Joe Getty, R-Baltimore and Carroll counties, and Ed Kasemeyer, D-Baltimore and Howard counties, shared anecdotes and answered questions from about 50 McDaniel College students who had gathered in a lecture room at Hill Hall for the occasion.

The senators had visited the campus for a presentation, ““So What Just Happened: A Report from Annapolis,” as a courtesy to long standing McDaniel political science professor, Dr. Herb Smith – who is frequently sought-out by statewide and national media outlets for his insights into Maryland politics.

Both Getty and Kasemeyer have a long history with McDaniel. They were introduced by McDaniel College President Roger Casey… http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/carroll/westminster/bal-getty-and-kasemeyer-mcdaniel-20130506,0,965298.story

Erase The Truth

Erase the Truth

April 29, 2013

“The problem with introspection is that it has no end.” ― Philip K. Dick http://kevindayhoffart.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-problem-with-introspection-is-that.html

“This, to me, is the ultimately heroic trait of ordinary people; they say no to the tyrant and they calmly take the consequences of this resistance.” ― Philip K. Dick

I was looking for www.erasethetruth.com.

Actually I had hoped it was another movie adapted from the work of Philip K. Dick....

Then again, it could have been the website for a certain candidate for mayor... Although I cannot mention her name because of my contract with the Baltimore Sun. Oh, well - gee, never mind. Nothing to see here folks, just move along. Onward through the day.

Okay, moving right along…. Let’s see… In the words of Mr. Dick, “My schedule for today lists a six-hour self-accusatory depression.” ― Philip K. Dick, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2013/04/erase-truth.html

A little attention for The Old Editor

A little attention for The Old Editor
John McIntyre at You Don't Say
In this week's *City Paper*, Baynard Woods profiles me. This, his opening paragraph, will help you decide whether to read further: "*The Old Editor* is an imposing man. As he walks into Nina’s, a small restaurant across the street from *The Sun*’s* *headquarters, the woman behind the counter says, 'Hello, Mr. McIntyre. It’s been a while' with an air of deference. If his sartorial sense were prose, John Early McIntyre would probably find it too flowery: With a dark suit, a blue-striped bow tie, cuff links in the sleeves of his starched shirt, a wide-brimmed hat, and a cane, he looks... more » http://johnemcintyre.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-little-attention-for-old-editor.html

Chesapeake Bay Foundation explains Maryland ‘Rain Tax’; basically property owners are being taxed to clean up companies landfills.

If you live in Maryland, get ready to pay for rain.
Lawmakers passed an “Impervious Surfaces” tax – also being called the “Rain Tax.”
Basically, you’ll be charged for any surface of land you own that does not absorb rainwater.
The ultimate goal is to reduce storm-water runoff and improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
How much you’ll pay depends on where you live – as each county will determine its own fee.

Eagle Archive: 50 years later, King's letter reminds us of a journey too long

Eagle Archive: 50 years later, King's letter reminds us of a journey too long

On April 16, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. penned a 7,000-word letter from a jail cell in Birmingham, Ala. The letter came in response to a statement by eight white Alabama pastors on April 12, 1963, titled "A Call for Unity."

King had been arrested April 12 for demonstrating in defiance of an injunction issued against the Birmingham Campaign of marches and sit-ins, which had begun on April 3.

The white clergy members argued that the cause of civil rights was better contested in the courts than the streets of Birmingham.

King's response has become famous in the study of persuasive rhetoric in which, in part, he suggested that the "wait" requested by the white pastors — who argued that 1963 was not the time for King to pursue equal rights — really meant "never."

King also put forth that non-violent civil disobedience was an appropriate response to unjust laws, and that "one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws."

The letter was the origin of the now-famous argument that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," and quotes Chief Justice Earl Warren, "Justice too long delayed is justice denied."

His letter also referenced a few other notables, such as Paul of Tarsus, Reinhold Niebuhr, Socrates, Paul Tillich and Thomas Aquinas.
In addition to being a man of letters, King is, of course, he's best known for speaking — the most famous example being his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington on Aug. 28, 1963.

Closer to home, we should note that a setback to the cause of King and many of his era occurred on Nov. 14, 1963, at the lunchroom of Sykesville Mayor Bernard McDougall's drug store, where Jean S. Evans and Bailey Conaway were refused service… Read more: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/carroll/westminster/ph-ce-eagle-archive-0421-20130417,0,4791772.story

Tragedy Strikes at Heart of America http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=5730 Kevin E. Dayhoff April 17, 2013

The cheers of joy and excitement quickly turned to screams of terror on Monday at 2:50 in the afternoon when an act of senseless horror shattered the 117th running of the Boston Marathon, arguable the world’s oldest and most prestigious endurance foot race.

The marathon is traditionally held on Patriots Day in Boston and the holiday had blossomed into a beautiful spring day. The Massachusetts state holiday “commemorates the first battles of the American Revolution in 1775.”

The Boston Marathon brings-out approximately 500,000 spectators and visitors to the city for what can be described as Christmas and New Year’s Eve all rolled into one.

The bombs shattered the celebrations of the runners, families, and spectators- and once again, shook us to our core. The heinous act served as an unwelcome reminder that no one is safe anywhere in a world where senseless acts of violence are perpetrated upon the innocent to promote a political or ideological agenda… http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=5730
