Westminster Fire fighters respond to house fire on Mulligan

DISPATCH TIME: 12:15 p.m. in the afternoon. The first units
arrived on scene at 12:20 p.m. The fire declared under control at 13:06 p.m.
LOCATION: 700 block of Mulligan Lane off Windsor Drive in
Westminster
INCIDENT Classification:
FIRE SUPPRESSION Box alarm
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Responded to smoke coming from the
rear of a residential home in the 700 block of Mulligan Lane.
INITIAL ON-SCENE UNIT: Engine 33 on scene at12:20 p.m. All
units cleared the scene at 14:24.
Initial Findings: Lt. 3-3 arrived to find smoke showing.
After doing a 360, the Lt. found fire running up the exterior wall, on the
Charlie side, to the attic.
ACTIONS TAKEN: Engine 33 on scene. Laid line from fire
hydrant and then the firefighters went interior with an inch and three-quarter
hand line.
Chief 3-1 assumed command… After further inspection, smoke
was discovered in the basement as well as the two upper floors. Westminster 31
and 33, and Reese 91 went to the second floor and pulled ceilings to stop the
fire from spreading in the attic.
Assistance on the fire attack - on the second floor, the
basement and pulling the siding on the Delta side, was provided by New Windsor
101, Ladder Taneytown 5 and Engine Pleasant Valley 63.
Firefighters secured all utilities, and rescued a dog, cat
and two birds from the house.
It is preliminarily estimated that $60,000 to the building
and $20,000 damage to the contents.
ON-SCENE INJURED: No injuries were reported.
Mutual AIDE COMPANY(S): Reese, New Windsor, Pleasant Valley,
Union Bridge, Hampstead, Taneytown, and Lineboro.
14 firefighters responded from Westminster. It is estimated
that 35 to 45 volunteers responded from other Carroll County volunteer fire
departments.
SPECIAL SUPPORT Services(s): Westminster Fire Police,
Canteen and Chaplain responded and the MD State Fire Marshall. Baltimore Gas
Election and a representative from the Carroll County office of permits and
inspections.
The fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State
Fire Marshal’s office.
