Maryland hospitals need the public’s help

Maryland hospitals need the public’s help

January 12, 2022 - Maryland hospitals need the public’s help. Protecting community health is a responsibility every individual shares.

Get vaccinated and boosted.

Wear a mask. Keep your distance. Wash your hands.

Do not visit a hospital emergency room for a COVID-19 test or vaccine or booster.

See your doctor, visit an urgent care center, or use a telehealth visit for minor conditions. Use emergency departments for life- or limb-threatening needs.

Quarantine if you are COVID positive.

Dec. 12, 2021 Meet Lynne Griffith the New Executive Director of the CCAC

Dec. 12, 2021 Meet Lynne Griffith the New Executive Director of the CCAC

The CCAC Board of Directors is thrilled to appoint Lynne Griffith as our new Executive Director.

Griffith is a Carroll County resident with vast leadership experience as a nonprofit administrator. An accomplished musician, she has a passion for the arts, arts education, and community engagement. Griffith recognizes the importance of team building and collaboration to create dynamic and synergistic partnerships throughout the county.

“I enthusiastically believe in the power of the Arts to profoundly impact people and communities, and I relish the opportunity to make that happen,” says Griffith.

The CCAC Executive Committee accepted the resignation of Eric Kerchner on December 8. “Lynne was a finalist in our recent search, and we are fortunate she was available, enthusiastic, and so very qualified to fill the position. We lucked out.” says Thomas Sterner, CCAC board president.

Help us give her a warm welcome in the comments!

Take-out form Molli's Cafe for lunch.

Caroline and I got take out for lunch at Molli Cole and Matt Cole's Molli's Cafe. We loved our lunch. I had - of course, a grilled cheese sandwich (and a few Semper Fi crayons.) Caroline had the Rachel. It was the perfect lunch after working at the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program barn - getting ready to bring the horses in next week. Have a great day. 23Aug2021 Monday

Westminster Water Main Break, Sunday evening. July 18, 2021

Update: 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. July 18, 2021 - After some preliminary investigation city workers determined that the small water leak needed some additional study before digging into the street and suspended operations this evening. The workers will deploy some leak detection equipment and revisit the leak tomorrow.

Westminster Water Main Break, Sunday evening. July 18, 2021 - currently the City of Westminster is responding to a water main break at the corner of Anchor Street and Westmoreland Street.

Crews first responded around 5 p.m. The break in the pipe has been located and crews are currently working to make the necessary repairs. The water will be temporarily turned-off while the repairs are taking place. We hope to have it repaired quickly. We thank for your patience, and we are sorry for the inconvenience.

If the water is discolored when the water service is restored, let it run for a minute or two until it runs clear.

JOHN BANKS' CIVIL WAR BLOG: 'No man ... more honored': Longstreet's 1888 Getty...: In an enlargement of the William Tipton image below, Civil War commanders (from left) Joshua Chamberlain, Daniel Butterfield,  James Long...

FTA: For sheer star power, no gathering of Union and Confederate veterans rivaled the Grand Reunion at Gettysburg in 1888. "There are so many Generals and other chieftains here," a newspaper marveled, "that a catalogue of them would be as long as Homer's list of ships."

Former Army of the Potomac commanders Dan Sickles, Fitz-John Porter, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Henry Slocum, Abner Doubleday, and Francis Barlow, among other Union luminaries, were joined in Pennsylvania by ex-Army of Northern Virginia generals Wade Hampton, Fitzhugh Lee and John B. Gordon.

But the biggest celebrity at the event clearly was the man sporting massive, white whiskers and a cleanly shaven chin: James Longstreet, who commanded the Confederates’ First Corps at Gettysburg on July 1-3, 1863. Nearly everywhere Robert E. Lee’s “Old War Horse” went he drew appreciative, and often awestruck, crowds.

"No man now in Gettysburg," a New York newspaper reported, “is more honored nor more sought than he."

For Longstreet, the visit to Gettysburg – his first since he commanded troops there – stirred a wide range of emotions. And led to the shedding of many tears...
