Dayhoff Media Explore Carroll, Transportation, Transportation Public

Explore Carroll: DAYHOFF: When it comes to travel history, you can't get there from here

By Kevin Dayhoff ... When I have the opportunity to compare roads and public transportation of other metropolitan areas around the country in my travels, I have always been left with the profound conclusion that there is something dearly amiss in Maryland's transportation system.... http://www.explorecarroll.com/opinion/5197/when-it-comes-travel-history-you-cant-get-there-here/

Cissna back in Juneau after refusing TSA search

By BECKY BOHRER
The Associated Press

Read the entire article and be appalled: "... Cissna, D-Anchorage, is a cancer survivor who has had a mastectomy. She underwent the full-body scan at Seattle’s airport but was singled out for a further pat-down search, her second, she said, within three months..."

[...]

"Since new screening measures began last year, the American Civil Liberties Union has reported receiving more than 1,000 complaints from travelers — including breast cancer survivors — who said they endured intrusive pat-downs. Among other things, the travelers claim TSA agents patted their genitals and ran fingers through their hair or along their bras or waistbands..." http://www.adn.com/2011/02/24/1720607/alaska-lawmaker-back-in-juneau.html

Indiana Republican Official: No Compromise With Absent Democrats On GOP Proposals

Indiana Republican Official: No Compromise With Absent Democrats On GOP Proposals
INDIANAPOLIS — A political stalemate in Indiana showed no signs of ending anytime soon as House Democrats met privately Wednesday in an out-of-state hotel and Republicans refused to negotiate away their legislative agenda to lure them back.
While the tactic mimicked one used a week earlier by Senate Democrats in Wisconsin who fled to delay a vote on an anti-union bill, the Indiana Democrats said their protest was not about one GOP-backed proposal but a slate of them. In both states, Democrats don't have the votes to defeat the proposals, but by not showing up they can prevent the required quorum necessary to call the measures for a vote... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/24/indiana-republican-offici_n_827580.html

The Tea Leaf: The Fed Plays With Fire / Fragile Confidence

The Fed Plays With Fire / Fragile Confidence

Enjoy the Tea Leaf:
http://www.thredgold.com/tea-leaf/

Here's a preview of this week's issue:
"The Fed Plays With Fire"

U.S. and global inflation pressures are on the rise.  This is not to say that
rampant U.S. inflation reminiscent of the late '70s/early '80s is upon us...
nothing of the kind.  However, prices are going higher.

"Fragile Confidence"

U.S. consumer confidence rose to the highest level in three years in February,
one more positive sign for economic growth prospects.  Unfortunately, the latest
laundry list (say that three times quickly) of headwinds is likely to dampen
the good news.
